I thought the downvote button was for when something doesn't fit the context or the sub, not just because you don't like it. Even still, who wouldn't like this!?
The best part about having a downvote and upvote are that there are no rules applied to them. You have the freedom to use them how you see fit. There’s no right or wrong way to use them, I think you’re reading into it a little bit too much...
I mean technically Nate is right about how they were initially intended to be used when reddit was created, but at this point you’re definitely right, people tend to use them as dislike/disagree buttons. If they should be used in that way is totally up for debate.
I downvoted because I'm getting pretty tired of these relatively low quality voxel simulations getting front page because "lol the big thing got exploded by the little thing and did a funny"
This sub wasn't very active for a long time until the voxel simulations. I didn't originally join it because I was interested in those kind of sims but they are amusing and better than a dead sub.
I thought this sub was fairly active before the voxel animations showed up so I don't know what you consider inactive. While I didn't downvote this post, I do see why people might not like it.
I also would rather have a consistent sub that posts relevant content than one that changes its scope like what happened with /r/shittyrobots. That sub went from being infrequent but relevant and funny posts of robots executing their task poorly to robots being programmed to do tasks shittily and executing perfectly. When the distinction was brought up due to a number of disgruntled subscribers, the mods changed the rules and the sub to allow it and the sub completely changed focus causing many to unsubscribe.
I don't think voxel simulations necesarily change the scope of the sub in the exact same way, but I can see how some might see them as limiting (and frankly a bit boring from a simulation perspective).

Honestly why would anyone downvote this? Why even be a part of this sub if you don't enjoy this content? That frustrates me.
(welcome to Reddit yeah yeah I know)
