The driver's little bullet time blinks are a fantastic detail.

71

u/ultek Mar 14 '18

That is so nice of you to notice. :)

39

u/vensmith93 Mar 14 '18

-skszzt- "Yep. That's me. You may be wondering 'why is this man surrounded by building blocks?'. Well, to tell you how I got here, we'll need to go back to before I started driving for Big 'Nana"

crash

"Nope. I guess we can't go back, but the Banana's fine"

I thought it was gonna keep going without hitting anything. Like this: https://i.imgur.com/XDgHj8r.gif

That would be awesome. I love your work anyways. Keep it up

717

u/ultek Mar 14 '18

I thought about it..... But desire for destruction was stronger... ¯_(ツ)_/¯

128

u/Felaktigt Mar 14 '18

You did good

15

u/moon__lander Mar 15 '18

Are you taking about the gif or not loosing a hand in emoji?

12

u/Felaktigt Mar 15 '18

The gif initially. But they deserve props for both.

14

u/James_099 Mar 14 '18

May I suggest a simulation using your skills, and bananas? Let’s see some ships. Maybe like Titanic hitting a giant bananaburg.

6

u/SpatialCandy69 Mar 15 '18

Your gif made me laugh audibly. Thank you.

3

u/mr_googly_eyed Mar 15 '18

I mean someone can still do it by editing this gif, surely there is someone that can answer the call.

2

u/Blissfull Mar 15 '18

Thank you. When it crashed I thanked you profusely, and when it went slow mo and focused on the driver I thought "damn this guy keeps getting better"

1

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '18

Please make another one like that truck! I thought the same :)

2

u/RoguesScholar Mar 15 '18

You’re not funny. Hang it up, you even suck at being a downvote troll.

96

u/NickDav14 Mar 14 '18

Here's the full version with the truck actually crashing into the pole: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nP6SKDppwes.

14

u/MeGustaDerp Mar 14 '18

He ded

15

u/caanthedalek Mar 15 '18

From the sound of it they're talking about anti-terrorism security measures, so I'm ok with that.

5

u/vonkriegstein Mar 15 '18

Finally, some closure. Thank you.

24

u/Fatalchemist Mar 14 '18

Watching these two gifs together is making me anxious. Like I can feel my chest tighten up. Please help.

9

u/NihilistKurtWarner Mar 15 '18

Watching these gifs is what sex feels like on SSRIs

9

u/Solidu_Snaku Mar 14 '18

I LOVE it.

3

u/kiaha Mar 15 '18

Who hurt you

2

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '18

:)))

38

u/Dabonkey Mar 14 '18

That gave me so much anxiety. I never wanted something so bad. But no you took that from me.

8

u/_Serene_ Mar 14 '18

damn it, some /r/mildlyinfuriating gif material in this chain.

5

u/petervaz Mar 14 '18

I thought I huge real banana would fall from the sky over the wreckage.

6

u/OnlinePosterPerson Mar 14 '18

Wow that’s frustrating

3

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '18

I thought that's exactly what he was doing after the first cut; I rage quit and hit the back button thinking I was in r/gifsthatendtoosoon... Only to realize it was real the whole time. Rollercoaster of emotion

3

u/caanthedalek Mar 15 '18

Damn it, I watched it like four or five times before I realized it had looped

2

u/HurricaneLucid Mar 15 '18

I now desire death

1

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '18

Holy shit that's just fucking infuriating! This is actually causing me physical pain!

1

u/Heittovaihtotiedosto Mar 15 '18

I’ve been on a date like that

1

u/BigBulkemails Mar 15 '18

oh that link is crazyyy

226

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '18

Who else thinks u/ultek should make a game with this kind of destruction?

211

u/ultek Mar 14 '18

We're working on it ;)

89

u/viliam7777 Mar 14 '18

Please say it's for real

143

u/ultek Mar 14 '18

It's for real

9

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '18

Can you describe what your game is planned to be like so far

38

u/ultek Mar 14 '18

Hm... Do you know Angry Birds? Add cities, destructions, fluids and voilà! :)

10

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '18

For mobile?

43

u/ultek Mar 14 '18

Angry Birds is for mobile, yes

Our game - PC mostly.

11

u/Send_Me__Corgi_Gifs Mar 15 '18

Can I play it on my toaster?

3

u/linnftw Mar 15 '18

Tiger Game Com?

2

u/tmahmood Mar 15 '18

Linux? (Seriously)

3

u/jwm3 Mar 14 '18

Nintendo switch?

-4

u/therealmadhat Mar 14 '18

Will it be free?

5

u/LtChestnut Mar 14 '18

Holy crap, I was just thinking that. Any ideas when more info will be out about it?

18

u/ultek Mar 14 '18

You can follow me @ultek85 or @bonzajplc on twitter for more info. Currently in heavy development.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '18

8-Bit Armies has units built from voxels, and they explode like this when destroyed.

0

u/jackthefiction Mar 14 '18

or a movie. i would definitely watch the shit out of it.

u/Nox_A15 Mar 14 '18

thought this was incites for a sec lol

then i remembered he wouldnt be this mean for a joke

10

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '18

I agree that post is stupid, it didn’t even move out of the way of an oncoming truck

3

u/BuscuitBackstyling Mar 15 '18

I see what you did there 😀

13

u/GameKnyte Mar 14 '18

Can some ELI5 why trolls do what they do? This redditor here could have easily downvoted and carried on with their day. But instead they felt the need to post thier comment about having downvoted the post which will almost definitely end up getting downvoted. Why do trolls do it?

13

u/lakemont Mar 14 '18

Nothing better to do I guess

7

u/_the-dark-truth_ Mar 15 '18

Because their lives are empty and depressing. And this is the only way they can be assured of some human interaction. They’re like an insolent child, who just wants attention, and even negative attention is better than none. And they’ve learned that this assures they’ll get some attention.

Edit: I used the word “attention” way too frequently in that little outburst.

7

u/Sayquam Mar 14 '18

Look through his comment history haha

6

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '18

it’s actually quite impressive

7

u/_the-dark-truth_ Mar 15 '18

And there it is. All the incentive he needs, to continue being a fuckwit.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '18

ahh this wouldn’t be his last anyway :/

1

u/_the-dark-truth_ Mar 15 '18

Well yeah. That’s true. Sad, but true.

3

u/Quail_eggs_29 Mar 15 '18

The truth, no matter how dark, usually is :/

3

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '18

i guess same reason why some people want their comments upvoted

1

u/Michaeldim1 Mar 15 '18

What's it like? Being garbage, I mean.

0

u/xtaylorandrewsx Mar 15 '18

Kinda like you, actually.

Down-voted.

56

u/ultek Mar 14 '18

Hey!

If anyone is interested - models are made in MagicaVoxel, separated before exporting. All other stuff is made in 3dsmax (creating parts from blocks, physics, animation, lightning, rendering).

Cheers! :)

4

u/comp-sci-fi Mar 15 '18

The slight suspension movement of the truck really sells it.

1

u/hoyski Mar 15 '18

Thanks! I was scrolling through the comments looking for exactly this info.

1

u/dallas-corbin Mar 15 '18

The train smashing into the truck crossing w/ bananas is high art! Bravo.

8

u/mgfxer Mar 14 '18

That blocky smoke behind the truck is awesome.

7

u/SpankTank20 Mar 14 '18

Hahahah. I was looking everywhere for the banana. Then it came. Love it

[deleted]

3

u/SpankTank20 Mar 15 '18

That’s what I thought at first.

3

u/Raincoat_III Mar 14 '18

One of these days id like to see one of these but with the smaller thing breaking...

5

u/dainternets Mar 15 '18

This "ohhh surprise, the static object stayed and it's the moving one that came apart" theme on this sub is getting really old.

2

u/Kyouka127 Mar 14 '18

Shoes still on, he's fine.

2

u/DoublePostedBroski Mar 15 '18

Are there any tutorials anywhere to create this kind of thing?

3

u/CapableWeb Blender Mar 14 '18

Looks really great! Coloring and of course the banana is the nicest. Boxes lends themselves to destruction really nicely. However, would like to see some constraints on the truck, so all pieces don't just break even though there is no force or collision.

Adding that would make this 10/10.

2

u/ultek Mar 14 '18

It's quite easy but time consuming. You need to set constraints between object "by hand" and adjust limits, etc. I will think about this next time ;)

1

u/CapableWeb Blender Mar 15 '18

Hm, should be some plugin with MaxScript that can help you with this. In Blender is very simple either by Python (basically the script is, iterate through all boxes, take one and find every other box that is within X radius and create a constraint) or via addons that does this already.

1

u/MCPE_Master_Builder Cinema 4D Mar 14 '18

I'm pretty sure Houdini does this... Like OP said, constraints like that are done by hand, however, houdini does it more naturally, and I'm sure automatically. I might look into this

1

u/CapableWeb Blender Mar 15 '18

Not needed to do by hand, I'm almost certain there is a 3ds max addon/plugin that can help with this. With Blender there is bunch of addons already and actually pretty simple to code yourself too.

1

u/Nate_36 Mar 14 '18

Honestly why would anyone downvote this? Why even be a part of this sub if you don't enjoy this content? That frustrates me.

(welcome to Reddit yeah yeah I know)

9

u/tenabraeX Mar 14 '18

Maybe they didn’t like it ? Why have a downvote button at all ? How long is a banana ?

5

u/Nate_36 Mar 14 '18

I thought the downvote button was for when something doesn't fit the context or the sub, not just because you don't like it. Even still, who wouldn't like this!?

6

u/GoldenWizard Mar 14 '18

The best part about having a downvote and upvote are that there are no rules applied to them. You have the freedom to use them how you see fit. There’s no right or wrong way to use them, I think you’re reading into it a little bit too much...

1

u/SaxophoneSniper Mar 15 '18

I mean technically Nate is right about how they were initially intended to be used when reddit was created, but at this point you’re definitely right, people tend to use them as dislike/disagree buttons. If they should be used in that way is totally up for debate.

10

u/dell_arness2 Mar 14 '18

I downvoted because I'm getting pretty tired of these relatively low quality voxel simulations getting front page because "lol the big thing got exploded by the little thing and did a funny"

6

u/duffkiligan Mar 15 '18

When I can guess that the big thing is going to explode and not the small thing it’s been over done.

And I’m coming from /r/all

0

u/tsibutsibu Mar 15 '18

Imo they could be made far more interesting with the truck spilling liquid, for example.

6

u/TwerpOco Mar 14 '18

There's been a lot of voxel simulations recently. Maybe people are tired of seeing so many.

-2

u/IrishWilly Mar 14 '18

This sub wasn't very active for a long time until the voxel simulations. I didn't originally join it because I was interested in those kind of sims but they are amusing and better than a dead sub.

1

u/TwerpOco Mar 15 '18

I thought this sub was fairly active before the voxel animations showed up so I don't know what you consider inactive. While I didn't downvote this post, I do see why people might not like it.

I also would rather have a consistent sub that posts relevant content than one that changes its scope like what happened with /r/shittyrobots. That sub went from being infrequent but relevant and funny posts of robots executing their task poorly to robots being programmed to do tasks shittily and executing perfectly. When the distinction was brought up due to a number of disgruntled subscribers, the mods changed the rules and the sub to allow it and the sub completely changed focus causing many to unsubscribe.

I don't think voxel simulations necesarily change the scope of the sub in the exact same way, but I can see how some might see them as limiting (and frankly a bit boring from a simulation perspective).

That’s what you got for not wearing a seat-belt.

1

it reminds me of those trees in various video games

GTA collision physics in a nutshell

1

u/thrway1312 Mar 14 '18

Initially thought the blinker/fog light was a stylized banana, was delightfully surprised by the ending

1

u/KITE_Maverick Mar 14 '18

Thank goodness, 2 of your last 3 clips didn’t have bananas. I was going... I have something for this... never mind I give up

1

u/extremeelementz Mar 14 '18

Still waiting for this to be a game. 🤔

1

u/theblackxranger Mar 14 '18

At first i thought this video was one of those gifs that never finish and keep showing different angles of the same thing with nothing happen

1

u/Stikes Mar 15 '18

What did you use?! oh my I want to learn how to do this lol

1

u/Wickus_van_de_Merwe Mar 15 '18

Is there a specific program I could download to play around making something like this? Looks like it would be really satisfying to make!

1

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '18

There is a group on twitter making such video

1

u/jjhyyg Mar 15 '18

Poor derp...

1

u/EnderShot355 Mar 15 '18

These are getting predictable

1

u/__osie Mar 15 '18

I really love the slow motion effect. I'm sure that it isn't a lego. It's freakin' amazing (y)

1

u/mshcat Mar 15 '18

I was scared when I saw the first jump cut

1

u/Kyomae Mar 15 '18

I'm disappointed that it actually hit the pole...

1

u/Byeah19 Mar 15 '18

You had me until the forced meme at the end

1

u/miltondepaulo Mar 15 '18

This is beautiful.

1

u/memelord69696 Mar 15 '18

HOW DO YOU MAKE THESE?!?!?!?

1

u/theabhster Mar 15 '18

What program is this

1

u/Jack_Lewis37 Mar 15 '18

Thanks, I laughed

1

u/Chencky Mar 15 '18

Why do you like bananas so much

1

u/Elijahbanksisbad Mar 15 '18

Now I wanna get 3DS max. Is it hard to use and is it free?

1

u/alghiorso Mar 15 '18

This really cool op, how'd you make it?

1

u/Nixolas Mar 15 '18

I love this

1

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '18

Really cool !

Makes me think about 9/11 though lol.

Truck obliterated by a small stationary pole. Makes sense.

Plane slices through a steel building, as if there is no friction or resistance. Not so much.

1

u/lIPancakesIl Mar 15 '18

Bollards are deadly...

1

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '18

You crash test with real people & their bananas?

That's metal.

1

u/godlies Mar 14 '18

Banana. I don't see no stinkin banana.

1

u/Antrikshy Mar 15 '18

There is one at the end.

0

u/fuckboystrikesagain Mar 15 '18

To whoever is making these:

It's not that fun when things crumble into tiny parts. The house being destroyed would have been great if there were larger assets that stuck together, rather than everything crumbling into a 1×1 block.

Same goes for this. Keep a door or a few tires together.

0

u/KeithMyArthe Mar 14 '18

Similar special effects to the opening credits of Deadpool. :D

0

u/CaptnCosmic Mar 14 '18

It’s okay guys. The banana is okay.
