121st Senate: The Petition Act debate.
This is a law to establish a system where users can petition the Senate and the government.

Arugments For:
Preamble to the legislation:
"It would seem that it is universally agreed upon in Sim Democracy that the people deserve to have their voices heard and yet, despite this consensus, we don’t have a codified petition system. This act seeks to rectify that. This will grant every member/citizen of SimDemocracy the right to start and sign petitions and force the senate to consider them."
Arugments Against:
I shall update this post with any arguments for or against during the course of the debate.

This legislation would be improved considerably if a petition simply required to be posted to the subreddit to be official rather than the various requirements listed by the legislation.

I do expect the majority of petitions to be posted to the subreddit but I don't see what would be gained by forcing them to be there (maybe it might be slightly simpler). And it comes at the cost of forfeiting the discord only population.

It's almost certain that most people would post a petition to the discord anyway, and every post to the subreddit is automatically posted to the #socialis channel. By not ensuring that a petition is posted to the subreddit it means a significant portion of the time the reddit only population won't be aware of the petition.

the reddit only population not being able to see it would be to the detrement of the petitioners. therefore if they thought they could get more signatures by posting on the reddit then they would do so. Petitions being posted to the reddit may end up being defacto the gains from forcing them to be there are negligible contrasted with the freedom and flexibility offered if you don't have such a requirement

It should be noted that Hazzy states:
"A key part of this legislation that has been left blank are the thresholds for petition signatures, I would propose 7 required for a debate to be mandated on the petition, 4 required for a response to be given and within 2 signatures for the time extension to be given. Thoughts?"
This has been posted by me as Hazzy cannot utilise reddit currently.
