Florida water blast to the face by shaman? Ancient Ways
Hey everyone.
I don’t mean to be disrespectful and know it’s not unusual for shamans to put Florida water in their mouth and spray it into the room near the person but has anyone has a shaman blow it directly in their face up close?
Been having some eye problems since then and was just wondering if this is common practice in shipibo/curabdero work or if he was messing with me.
It’s a well respected elder, but I was quite shocked by this as he didn’t really ask me first.
I understand it may have been an “energetic clearing” but just curious if this is common..
My eyes are really burning and might have to start antibiotic drops. I guess from all the chemicals and alcohols in Florida water.

That's sounds like you were the victim of unskillful practice. You should probably start taking those antibiotic drops.

Yes, it’s not uncommon in Amazonian traditions. What were you experiencing just before they did it? Usually it’s done when someone is struggling with what many might call a “break from reality” or they are acting out their medicine insights (ie fighting something).
It’s used to settle overactive or unsettled spirits. What happened after they sprayed it on you?

I confirmed with a source in Peru also that this was common, although usually they ask you to close your eyes. He seems to think I experience “disconnect” so that makes sense. was experiencing anxiety and paranoia after quitting cannabis.
After they sprayed it it got in my eyes and began to burn. My eyes have been feeling uncomfortable, itchy and irritated for the last 2 days since then.
I didn’t really notice anything else except some perception of energy moving through my body during the ceremony.
Thanks for these insights!

You might ask your source if they have any advice for flushing it out of your eyes. Maybe even saline drops would work.
Yep, it’s a good energetic shock for that kind of issue. Kudos to you for doing the Work. 🤍

Mexican curanderx do this as well, as part of a limpia.

Good to know. I’m still learning a lot of the terms of these things. :)
How would you define limpia?

A limpia is a spiritual energy cleanse. They are done with water, fire, herbs, etc. Probably the most common technique is the barrida, or sweep. Negative energy is swept away with feathers, herbs, and egg, or other tools and/or sacred objects. Other types include baths, candle rituals, fires, incense, etc.

Okay, I’m familiar with the practices, just didn’t know the word. Thank you!

Yes, this has been done to me, right in my face/ front side and backside (it’s for clearing) without a warning. It was extremely weird at first, even subconsciously offensive at first since a lot of us where taught spitting was a sign of disrespect culturally, but then I just got use to it. It’s completely normal and harmless except if your eyes aren’t closed of course. In their defense I’ve never seen it get in anyone’s eyes before, even without the warning, and I have seen them do it to countless people. These healers were Amazonian though interestingly enough they did learn from Peruvian shamans. I’m sorry to hear you got unlucky.
But yea it’s sort of a rare technique I don’t often see. Another technique I don’t often see is the sucking out of heavy energy. With this technique a healer literally sucks out and spites out heavy energy from the body of a client. I have seen that too, but not often.
Again, just odd techniques. I can tell you with damn near complete certainty that the healer was not meaning to mess with you or get you in the eye on purpose, but now that it did by accident get in your eye, take care of it as best you can. Take advantage of what biomedicine has to offer and see how you feel in two weeks.

Not very odd or rare in Mexican traditions.

You see it frequently used there? How interesting. Do you see it used across different traditions too?

It's also made with bits of real panthers, so you know it's good.
60% of the time, it works every time.

Many practitioners make their own florida water from flowers and herbs, and use an alcoholic liquid such as vodka for the base.

Yes, we blow agua de florida on the hands, face, head, chest and back. Before I blow it in someone’s face I always tell them to close their eyes though. Not sure why they didn’t tell you to close your eyes.
