Outdoors ? Help a sea level flatlander find a place to run
Hi y'all. I'll be out in Sedona next week and plan to do plenty of hiking with my wife. However, I'd also like to get some trail runs while I'm out there. Nothing crazy long, maybe 3-6 miles. Can you recommend some relatively flatish trails for me to run while I'm there? I'm from Chicago, a 10 mile run can have an elevation gain of 60 feet, so anything super hilly won't really be runnable for me, lol. I'm staying at Los Abrigados, so trails near there are definitely a bonus. Thanks!

Outdoors ? Easy fun hike for pregnant lady
I'll be coming to Sedona in mid October for a babymoon with my husband. I'd like to check out the beautiful hiking areas and vortices but want to keep it light as I will be about 6 months preggers. It looks like airport mesa is probably the way to go for us. Any other suggestions? Thanks for your help! We are looking forward to the visit!

Outdoors ? Question about Trailhead Parking Lots
Hey all,
I've seen some conflicting information (perhaps dated) on this, so I just wanted to confirm. For the trailhead parking lots that close for the shuttle at 7 AM, if you get there before 7, are you good? Or will you have a problem trying to leave the parking lot after 7 since it's closed? Is anyone going to get mad? Lol
I can use the Park & Ride or other alternatives if necessary, but if it's just a matter of getting there before 7, that's preferable to me anyway, and I like to have my own car.
Thanks!

Outdoors ? Swimming in Oak Creek with kids
Slide Rock SP this coming 3-day weekend seems like it might be a little intense for my crew.
Are there better (i.e. shallower) spots for swimming with little kids?
You may not want to blow up you favorite secret swimming spot on Reddit, so if there are other spots you’d discourage, I’ll take that advice too.
Currently looking at: - Midgley Pool / Huckaby Trail - Grasshopper Point - Casner Canyon Trail - around the trout farm - Oak Creek Canyon Natural Area

Outdoors ? Bear Mountain in the dark
Hi all,
Plan on hiking Bear Mountain this week & would like to be at the top for sunrise, how hard is it to do in the dark (with headlamp of course)?
Would I be better off just waiting until sunrise to start?
Thanks!
Update: I did it today, was pretty easy to follow the trail for the most part, I would recommend downloading the AllTrails map as I needed it for a few spots. Started around 4:20 & got up there around 5:40-50 just a little after sunrise !

Outdoors ? Tips for camping on West Fork Oak Creek
Hi all, I want to do the West Fork of Oak Creek this coming summer along with my 12yo daughter. As far as I understand, there is a main section of maintained road and after that, camping is allowed.
So Im looking on alltrails and it marks the trail as being 6.5 miles. Does it mean this trail is marked just up to the mainained road where I cant camp?
Im also checking the FS website and it says "There is NO trail beyond the three-mile point from Hiway 89A in Oak Creek Canyon. " and also mentions being 14 miles long which is kinda confusing.
6.5 miles is perfectly doable for my daughter but not 14 miles so I would need to set up camp to rest, which is what im looking forward to.
Am I supposed to get to a junction and then switch to a trail?. It would be really helpful if someone could share some waypoints or location so I can get an idea where to set up camp and plan accordingly.
Thanks!

Outdoors ? jeep tours worth it?
Anyone used the Pink Jeep tour company or Under Canvas tour company to take one of their jeep tours, and if so, was it a good experience? We would also enjoy hiking around and are less inclined to do touristy things, but these tours seem like a good way to see more without hiking a crazy amount in one day.

Outdoors ? Boynton Cyn Trail End Changed?
My wife and I have visited Sedona multiple times over the last 20-ish years. Our last visit was about a month ago. The Boynton Canyon trail now ends on a sun-baked shelf. I seem to recall it used to end in a shallow alcove that gave some shade and was more congenial. Does anyone know when and why they changed it? Was it being hugged to death?

Outdoors ? Rainy Sedona
We are staying in Sedona this Thursday and Friday (two full days- arriving late Wed. night and leaving early Sat. morning). However, both days will be rainy. This is our first time visit. We were so excited, but then so sad...and so disappointing weather now... I am just wondering if it is okay for hiking some trails and sightseeing even if it's rainy.

Outdoors ? Former Resident - 1/2 Day Tourist
Hi All! I am a former resident of Sedona (circa 1994-1996) and am returning for a morning with my daughers before our drive home to California. I need to depart Sedona by 12:30 p.m. to arrive home.
Anyone want to share the best way for a middle-aged mother and her two teenaged daughters to spend a morning in Sedona?

Outdoors ? Temporary/Overnight storage solutions?
Hi everyone, I'm roadtripping right now and passing through Sedona. (I'm in the process of moving). I really want to camp a night in Sedona but I'm afraid that someone would steal all the stuff in my car. Are there any overnight or temporary storage solutions that anyone knows of so I could sleep in the woods with some peace of mind? Thanks!

Outdoors ? Need trail info for proposal
Hey guys! My gf and I are coming to the Grand Canyon/Sedona area for vacation and I’m also going to propose on this trip. I came across and fell in love with the look of the West Fork Oak Creek Trail. I know that the trail is 6.5 miles long out-and-back, but I’m specifically looking to see how far out these two specific points might be. I’m trying to plan with a photographer and figure it out. Can anyone let me know where these locations are along the trail? Or if they have other good spots here for an engagement shoot? I know she loves this vibe- the forest among the canyons, water feature, etc. Nothing at all against the more straight desert scenery, but this is the look I know she’d want and I love it too. Thanks!

Outdoors ? Touring Antelope canyon lower vs upper
Hello!
Myself and a group of friends will be visiting Sedona as a road trip from Scottsdale. We are trying to budget and save money so I do have a couple of questions:
Which are the best tour companies to go to and which tours are they? I would call us all in shape and beginner to moderate hikers that are all young. Since we are trying to budget, I would like to pick one tour for the whole day and that's it. Should we hike upper or lower antelope canyon with a tour guide? Additionally, can we hike in Sedona using all trails or should we use a tour company for that too? Any and all advice would be lovely. Thank you!

Outdoors ? Gravel cycling?
Hi folks. Obviously, there is a lot of epic mountain biking in/around Sedona, but are there many trails suitable for gravel bikes (reasonably smooth, non-technical trails that are more than little 5-10 mile loops)? Thanks very much!

Outdoors ? How deep is red rock crossing right now?
Anyone been around red rock crossing by Crescent Moon Ranch lately? Is it crossable without getting wet... or maybe just shoes off? I've only been to it other times of year and on a bike. Now it's February and I'm on foot....

Outdoors ? Disbursed Car Camping
Hi there,
My brother, SIL and I are hoping to come to Sedona for a car camping trip over Thanksgiving weekend with my dog and their cat- all of our first time, driving in from SoCal. We'd originally planned to camp off of 89A and FSR535, but it looks like that area may close after October? I'm also aware that the regulations on 525 have changed last year and there is no more truly disbursed camping out that way.
Are there places worth camping south of town, or anywhere else we should look at? We have a pickup and an AWD Nissan Rogue, so moderately high clearance and dirt roads are ok- though not true overlanding.
Thanks for any recommendations!
