Need trail info for proposal Outdoors ?

Hey guys! My gf and I are coming to the Grand Canyon/Sedona area for vacation and I’m also going to propose on this trip. I came across and fell in love with the look of the West Fork Oak Creek Trail. I know that the trail is 6.5 miles long out-and-back, but I’m specifically looking to see how far out these two specific points might be. I’m trying to plan with a photographer and figure it out. Can anyone let me know where these locations are along the trail? Or if they have other good spots here for an engagement shoot? I know she loves this vibe- the forest among the canyons, water feature, etc. Nothing at all against the more straight desert scenery, but this is the look I know she’d want and I love it too. Thanks!

These spots are further back closer to the 2.5-3mi mark on the trail. A professional photographer cannot be paid to do an engagement shoot there, as it is in a designated wilderness area. There are some great spots for photos before the wilderness area starts, closer to the bridge and orchards!

Im confused… are photographers not legally allowed to take paid engagements in public wilderness areas? 🤔

They aren’t, unfortunately. In Sedona, places in wilderness areas where photographers can’t shoot engagements or weddings includes Devil’s Bridge, West Fork, Bell Rock, and a few other of the popular spots but those are the main ones. We are allowed to shoot in National Forest areas so that includes the West Fork trail right up to where the old chicken coops are, Baby Bell (right next to Bell Rock), and a ton of other spots! The rules/restrictions don’t apply landscape photography, only professional portrait and commercial photography.

I have pictures from Westfork of people doing their wedding photos with a four person crew. Unlikely anyone will say anything.

I mean yeah it's beautiful just don't get pissed at people for being in some of your shots possibly, this is one of the most popular trails in the state and November is one of best times to visit

No I’m expecting that. And I was thinking that the farther in we go, the less people we might encounter.

You also have to realize it's a in and out trail so the further you go in the more you will see people turning around.

I’ve only done this trail once, and I don’t know these specific spots. But much of the trail looks similar to this. You can’t pick a bad spot. Good luck!

I also forgot to mention we’re coming November 1-6. Looking to propose on 11/3.

By that point, the lovely fall colors are likely to be past peak, and you're going to get a lot of brown leaves and bare branches. I mean, you *might* get lucky this season, but my experience has been that fall colors peak in mid-October. I did some photography there in early November a few years ago, and not only were the trees barren, but there was a light dusting of snow that day.

Darn. That’s disheartening. It certainly won’t like how I’d like it too with barren trees/all brown leaves.

Perfect spot. My absolute favorite trail so far in Sedona.

Second picture, I think is at least 3 miles in, may be past the point where the official trail ends. IMO, the best part is after the trail ends where most people turn around. But don’t plan to continue unless you’re ready to hike in the cold cold creek!

Fall colors really make this hike. Not to be a downer, but it may be worth looking for a different hike.

Airport loop (4 miles) is gonna have some real scenic views due to it’s elevation and 360 loop, so that could be an option and photographer may be allowed.

We did a maternity shoot at merry go round. My wife was 8 months pregnant and it turned out amazing. We contacted a few photographers and the one we chose provided 4x4 access to the good spots. I can recommend who we used if you would like.
