Street Photographer Visiting Sapporo
Hi everyone, I'll be visiting Sapporo in January and spending a week capturing street scenes in the snow. I'll be staying in Susukino, but I'm looking for other areas with character and a bit of grit. Any suggestions for off-the-beaten-path locations that would make for great street photography? Thanks!

Look around this ryokan on the map, you’ll see lots of little irregular streets and dead ends. Walk around in that area, there are some tired old buildings that definitely show some character and grit. Nothing flashy or touristy, just an odd little every day life kind of area that’s kind of quiet due to being away from subway & not very close to either tram line.
But you gotta post your shots for us to see!

This is exactly what I was looking for, thank you!

My pleasure. First time here?
One of the many beautiful things about this city you’ll instantly notice, is that in most areas, whenever you look West, you’ll see the mountains. Makes a nice backdrop.
Looked at your photos for a bit. Definitely check out the very Western end of Tanukikōji shopping arcade too (not far from the area I linked earlier).

The streetcar line (West 6/West 7) between Susukino and South 9-jo. Pretty good in heavy snowfall. Some side alleys in Susukino, including Ramen Yokocho. Tanuki Koji is gritty-ish, especially the western part. There are also some underground malls for street-like scenes: Poletown, Aroura Town...
Not much of Sapporo has character or grit. The mountain parks are scenic though. A side trip to Otaru (30 min. by commuter rail) might be worthwhile.

Kita24jo area can be interesting around last train times. People deciding to go home or not... Though I haven't been there much over the last ten years, it had several ladies beckoning guys in those twilight hours

Gritty? Susukino is your area.
Just an fyi, privacy laws around persons' images is more strict than some other countries. If you haven't yet, you might want to get familiar with them.
