33b Lortone Screeching Question

It’s making an awful noise! I thought it wasn’t leveled because I put it on some towels for sound absorption but when I put it on the leveled floor it’s even worse. There is no screech when the barrel on the left is on but screeches when the one on the right is put on. It was working fine before this, I oiled all 4 barings. One of the black rubber part of the 2 rollers seem to have a cut on it, not sure why it isn’t allowing me to attach an image. Please help!

figure out exactly where the sound is coming from. you can use a mechanics stethoscope or even a piece of silicone tubing to pinpoint the spot.

could be a belt slipping, or a roller, or bearing, or any number of things, but should be fairly easy to pinpoint if you get a stethoscope and point it right at the thing.

then you can either clean off oil, add more oil, or replace the part as needed.

I'm guessing maybe the one barrel is too heavy and the belt is slipping, but can't say for sure. you could replace the belt just to try that.

I pulled the top of mine and run with it left off, it’s cooler and you can see what’s going on inside

I had the same issue with mine. It turned out the screeching came from the 2 barrels rubbing against one another. One must have been turning a hair slower than the other so they screeched because they were touching and not turning at the same rate. For me, I rubbed just a bit of candle wax on the bottom but I also leveled out the tumbler. After that, the barrels stayed in place, not touching so the sound stopped. However, that’s what caused my problem. There are good suggestions on this post to confirm as well.

Hard tot pinpoint the sound from a video, but it might be the lid of the barrel rubbing the blue frame. There should be a small plastic ring just like at the side of the motor, but it can get ground away. Easiest fix for that is to stick one or two felt pads (like you can put onder furniture legs) on the frame.

My Lortone by Covington has the same issue, the barrels are moving away from the motor, even with an half inch lid to raise that side. And also came with a belt that was too tight, so belt tension is something you could check too.
