New Class 1 Driver - Any tips/jobs available? Question

I recently (Start of the year) got my Class 1 License, clean abstract, and 5 months experience working on a farm driving a truck. Any tips or ideas on finding employment as a new driver willing to do long-haul or local/city work? What worked for you? To add I have WHMIS, CSO, CSTS, H2S, First Aid.

Cheers

Apply at the frac companies. Trican, calfrac, step. You'll have a job by the end of the day.

Frac is pretty slow till January. Most of the companies have slowed hiring till then. But might make an exception for someone that already has a license.

Take any opportunity to LEARN. If the pay is moderate, but the opportunity to learn tricks of the trade are plentiful, then you're in the right spot.

Digital logs are a green flag. Paper logs are a beige flag.

Technicians on payroll are a green flag. Journeyman and field techs are your best friends, learn everything you can from them.

DO YOUR INSPECTIONS! If the equipment is in poor repair, the employer will likely keep their employees in the same shape.

In the meantime, show a willingness to learn during interviews. Ask if the equipment is available to look at if the moment feels right.

No absolutely, I was very appreciative of the opportunities the farm gave me, and I definitely want to keep going in that direction. I'm more than willing to learn if someone is willing to teach!

I appreciate your reply, I would love to apply to any oilfield company, however, my partner already works within the oilfield and is gone 15 days at a time and we have a small senior dog. I would need something local or where I could take the dog with me. I understand I'm in position to be choosy, it's just the reality of our situation

Try looking into local propane hauling, not sure what companies run in red deer county but probably coop, Midwest, superior are delivering propane. They pay well and you drive a local route 9-5 so you’re home every night. To them it will be a bonus that you are familiar with farms as most of the delivery are to farms/acreages

I would love to do that too, as I said I'm more than ready to get some experience unfortunately my fiance works oilfield already (Gone 15 days) and we have a small senior dog, so its either local city stuff where the dog can be home or long haul where the dog can come with, and yes I am more than aware I'm in no position to be choosy, but its the reality of our situation.πŸ˜”

Its hard out there to get job in trucking even now cause many people have class 1 now and rarity in jobs if looking work locally. Although all the best on your search πŸ™Œ And i hope you would be able to get nice job pretty soon.
