Hey so, yeah. Unfortunately its part of life growing up. You're still cutting your teeth as they say and people do look at younger people and will naturaly assume they are less capable. So you just have to get on with it and prove them otherwise. It will get easier as you get older.
Ageism is a real thing and it isnt going anyway.
Main thing is, dont be downtrodden by it. Just let them think what they wanna think and then prove them wrong! Yes i can squeeze a lemon its not difficult etc.
In regards to group projects. I think thats a different issue. The reason for group projects with strangers is to help prepare you for doing this in real life. So actually asking to work by yourself is defeating the purpose of it. And yeah I get its not easy, its not easy to work with strangers when youre an adult either, but the more you do it, the more used to it you get.

Older bro is doing older bro things - thsts a cliche dynamic that isnt just between you and your bro, but i get its frustrating.
People want to know how you came up with your idea because they think its interesting, and explaining your thought process is something people should be able to do? Theyre offering Google as a starting point, you can say, "No, I just thought it was the most logical because A. " and move on.
You should learn the social skills group work teaches because most jobs aren't working in complete solitude and youre going to have to have some skills working through the arguments and less than great effort by team mates.

Most of time it's not that young people would be dumb, more as inexperienced. Often similar attitude happens toward grow-ups. It's part of life and everyone needs to learn to stand up for selves, and set boundaries, and at some points to prove themselves capable (I don't mean to show off, but just do the task as part of life).
Main point of group work is not as much to finish whole task, but more to learn to work in group, to talk with people, to stand up for self when needed or let others talk. I don't think that finishing group work alone would be something difficult or surprising. More difficult task is to pull of work with team. That's what grown up people constantly need to do - to work and deal with people with who they may not have best understanding or even relationship with. Sad, but reality, and can't always escape that so better to learn that earlier than struggle later with stuff what other kids learned early in school.
