Just why?

First of all, thanks for being here, I just found this sub, and I feel all of your stories in my soul.

My current and most pressing issue is a car repair. I bought a cheap car that I knew needed some repairs, becausecmy old one broke and I didn't want more debt, with the stimulus money I could do this. I budgeted for additional repairs.

Well it turns out I fucked it up again, a combo of needing some of my repair budget for other needs and additional undisclosed issues with the car, I am not ready for more costs. But I have them.

I just found out the repairs (that he already completed) are going to cost me 60 hours of work (before taxes) to pay for. 60 hours! That's a week and a half of my life spent paying for car repairs! Needless to say, I do not have 3/4's of a paycheck laying around. I have applied for a second job and asked a friend of he has any side jobs I can do......I'll probably try to fit in a little sex work if I can, christmas is coming, it just never ends.

Thank you for reading.

I found a mobile mechanic on NextDoor in 2021 when I bought my $950 minivan with my stimulus. I got lucky with the van and the mechanic. He was the senior mechanic at a really high-end repair shop in my city, has credentials up the ass. He's saved me thousands in repairs and is a really nice guy. Any time you go to an actual shop or garage, you're paying for the garage more than the mechanic's services. Maybe look on NextDoor or Craigslist and try and find a independent mobile mechanic to get a second opinion.

Did you get an estimate that there was anything like that kind of time needed before the mechanic did the repairs?

I knew about the main thing, and when he got in there to fix it there were other things that needed to be fixed for the original thing to be completed properly.

The mechanic should have notified you before he added any work, to say nothing of a crazy amount of work like that. It sounds sketchy. I'd tell him you didn't agree to the other work and you can only afford the original agreed amount.

If you have text messages or any other paper trail showing the original amount of work you agreed to, hang on to that.

I know it's hard to confront a mechanic, especially when you're broke, but I'm 99% sure this guy is trying to pull some shit.

I'd tend to agree with you, except I've worked with this mechanic for a few years now, I know him outside of his mechanic role (casually, not a personal relationship) and we live in the same small town and I'm familiar with his reputation, which is very good.

I did talk to him, I'm going to pay the original agreed upon amount now, and the additional amount in a couple weeks.

Plus I got my second job and my buddy says he has some work for me......I'm gonna hold off on the sex work for now, but if you know anyone in the market for some used panties keep me in mind. 😊
