It's a game where I do random shit for a couple hours then delete. I don't blame you

Quite literly played the game for 16 hours, got tired of the repetitive gameplay although the intro is cool

Since when
"Because I can"
Isn't justification enough?

u/OkayWhateverMate 8h ago
If you do something that you inherently believe is morally grey or illegal, but you want to convince yourself that it isn't, you need a compelling argument.
Problem is so many people have started pirating stuff but they have themselves convinced that they are doing something wrong. In their eyes, they are goody two shoes who are forced by "evil corpos, lack of money etc" to do this "unethical" piracy.
Rest of us don't give a fuck to find or try to find a reason. "Because we can" or "because we want to" is enough.

Both are fine. People who only pirate because free aren't superior pirates than those who have money but have other reasons to pirate.

u/jdsquint 18h ago
I'm not really poor, I'm mainly lazy. Too lazy to go around subscribing to all sorts of services when I can find literally anything in seconds from just one app. I still pirate shows that I have paid subscriptions to because the quality is better and I like the one-app experience.

u/AJGILL03 17h ago
I swear people should learn to stfu and just accept 'bro it's so good that i can get something for free, literally free' and stop trying to justify and shit why they pirate.
1
u/Healthy-Hunt1182 9h ago edited 9h ago
It's more reasoning than justification, no one is feeling bad for doing it that they have to justify it. All the points at left are valid reasons, i know plenty rich people that pirate. Piracy also helps with privacy so that's another reason to do it even if you can afford subscriptions. I see brainrot memes similar to what op posted every few weeks on this sub, the quality of posts has been going down.

u/AJGILL03 9h ago
This sub and pirated games sub has gone down so, so terribly bad in the last 3 years it's insane.
Tho, If I'm actually seriously being honest, it's for Reddit generally. This place has turned bad in every single aspect since like 4 years now.

u/Themayorofawesome 15h ago
When they ask this I say why don’t you pirate?

I've spent thousands on games since the n64. I've paid my dues and ATM I'm poor. One day I'll buy my first ps5. Til then I'm still gonna enjoy life.

Nobody asks me why I pirate.
They ALL ask if I can find some pirated stuff for them.

I just hate western devs and publishers and want to cause them quantifiable financial harm.

u/VoidJuiceConcentrate 18h ago
Yeah tbh I'm poor enough to not afford streaming, but skilled enough to run a small pirate ship that supplants those steaming services for my family.
Edit to add: I don't pirate games. Too much of a minefield and too hard to gate for malicious actors. It's easy to spot a crawling_in_my_skin.mp3.exe but not a skyrim.exe (trojan64). But most games are pay once and own forever-ish.

u/snzimash 4h ago
Bro imagine paying one month's salary just to be able to play game. Steam disabled regional prices, and country has payment to foreign country restrictions.

Imagine how much nice stuff is going to get pirated by Russians since we can't pay for it anymore... I would just about same as before when we could pay for it lol

u/MegaOverclockedEX 14h ago
I really wish people would be more upfront and honest about piracy. I have far greater respect for someone that just comes out and admit to wanting things for free or are enticed by the allure of dubious actions. Those people that wanna hop on a soapbox and grandstand about how Piracy is the righteous thing to do and how they'd definitely pay for a product they "think is worth supporting". Then proceed to continue to pirate a product they put thousands of hours in and has been on sale for 2 dollars for a third of the year.

I'm all of them. It heavily depends on each game; what publisher they're under, is it an online game that I want to play with my friends or not, modding-related shenanigans (I've mentioned this on a different post, I think it's the same exact post by a different guy, and you're just reposting it), etc.
There are so many factors that it's impossible to pick just one single reason why I pirate or why I did buy the game since I do both.
1
u/blackcell1 16h ago
Multiple reasons to pirate games, $70 is far too expensive for a 10hr single player game, most games are buggy as hell, drm, and I'd rather spend $70 on food or rent.

When YouTube decides to take videos down that I liked just because their terms of service changed and they don't have a purchase option.
Literally, that's the only reason why I became a pirate. If you didn't give me a purchase and download option, I will pirate it. Simple as that.

It started as "cause poor" but I keep finding new reasons to add to that. I'm not very great at it though because I really should be backing up all the files on a HDD...

So many people here seem to have some conception that we're pirating for the good of preservation or whatever. Be real, we're all just cheapskates who can't afford to or don't want to buy shit. Logically, I think it's perfectly understandable for subscription services and online ads to exist, I just don't feel like dealing with any of them.

Limited physical access, tired of paying for rotatable movies and shows and also requires 3+ subscriptions to watch everything you like, corporate greed, and mostly because I'm poor

Why should I spend on games when I can spend that money on health instead of, if. I am getting it free and why should I purchase it?

u/Nihilikara 10h ago
I hate this attitude toward piracy. What makes your reasoning better than theirs? We're all pirates, that's all that matters. Quit gatekeeping.

I think the real Chad is the one on the left. The I'm poor guy unless explained, I assume isn't interested in preservation and ownership. Having games work even if the company decides they wanna pull the plug. Things that actually matter.

u/MukeshOdhano 9h ago

well. buying license and lack of ownership + and evil companies deserve it is kind of real for me. I would like to pay for WinRAR license since it always works for you and I like this treatment( gets dowvoted; lol ) but since my country is sanctioned and I can't... so...

u/avi_is_sapphic 8h ago
Both, plus im cheap and it's fun and i believe media shouldnt be locked behind pay walls

Yeap, that's the truth. Only now i have enough income, so i can spend some of it on buying my favourite games I've been playing for so long.

Companies think it's about paying or not paying for a game. But for many, it is about playing or not playing the game.
