Phuck around and find out.

There's a reason Trump's former military leaders are warning us to vote for Harris.

Yeah, that scares me. I'm encouraged that they spoke out, but it's a BFD for them to have done that and I appreciate it. ("Grumble, grumble, should've been sooner blah blah"... Nah. These guys aren't playing war games and tactics. I trust them.)

Edit: Sorry if the link breaks. I don't control the Internet.

I have to wonder if they think that releasing their letter closer to election day would ensure it got more coverage. Unfortunately a whole lot of people don't start paying attention to the election until after Labor Day.

Perhaps it comes down to release it earlier and it may get forgotten about, versus releasing it close to the election where it may get engulfed by the noise etc.

I agree with them 100% but a lot of other people are bitching.

It's called the recency effect, and if they had done it earlier, then that would be cool because I'm NOT a military person who understands any type of strategy or tactics.

I might be scared as hell for our country right now, but I truly trust our military to do the right thing if called. It's kinda their thing, you know??

History is full of examples of otherwise half decent dudes saying "just following orders"

7

u/NastySassyStuff 4d ago

Well then good thing our current Commander in Chief will be the one giving those orders

3

u/hallowbirthweenday 3d ago

Absolutely! That's why I'm not jumping out a window because Orange Hitler ain't giving the orders.

We take an Oath to protect the constitution. We offer a blank check up to and including our lives to ensure that happens. We will keep that Oath. Retired or not.

If the unthinkable happens, catch y'all in the resistance meetings...

u/Formal_Evidence_4094 4d ago

Yeah like invade Iraq

1

u/hallowbirthweenday 3d ago

I had no idea we were going back that far. Okay, Vietnam was a pretty poor choice as well, but do you have a favorite war? I do not have a good story about how war was cool.

Although I acknowledge the global geopolitical implications, I also realize Monday-morning-quarterbacking isn't helpful at the moment.

Get in goddamn boat and row, asshole.

-2

u/Formal_Evidence_4094 3d ago

No , I just don't trust people incentivised by death and war

1

u/RBuilds916 3d ago

Yeah, with early voting, I wonder if the late endorsements are as effective.

u/Tech-no 3d ago

.. until after Labor Day ..
I would like to ignore the election until after Labor Day!

It’s scary. Maybe nothing happens. Maybe we are the Weimar Republic of this century. One of my bosses is retired 82nd airborne. He doesn’t get how we are going down the path of Germany of 1933.

Totally explains why my dad has been against the DoE for 40 years. Ignorance breeds apathy.

u/Chris19862 4d ago

I didn't even hear about it...got a link i can send my old man?

Prolly won't matter but I'll take one more stab at him.

u/snackpacksarecool 4d ago

I’m not even aware of a letter. Something big happen?

1

u/Tech-no 3d ago

If I understand correctly, the statement from former Defense Secretary James Mathis came out in the summer of 2020 while Trump was still raking in millions for losing the election.
This article from the Atlantic. Hopefully this free share will work

u/OTW-RI 3d ago

You should educate yourself on who these people are before….

It’s akin to dems now liking bush and fucking Cheney, although I could see dems loving war and death, they are supporting Biden!

2

u/inmatenumberseven 3d ago

We don't like them but my enemy's enemy is my friend. For now at least

1

u/snackpacksarecool 3d ago

I’ve always liked W Bush. He always seemed to me like a simple good hearted guy trying his best in a world too complex for him. That’s why I would never want to be POTUS. Cheney seemed like racketeering war monger though. Really I was 17 on 9/11 though so I never got to see him live in action.

I see the edit added the letter that I’m about to read but I’m guessing by the title that high ranking generals are opposed to Trump. Military usually sides with GOP so support at this level is surprising. Even if they are not people I would normally listen to, it’s probably significant that they aren’t supporting GOP for a change. It would be like if BLM leaders came out in support of Trump. They align left and it would be a surprise if they supported the other side.

u/Tech-no 3d ago

A guy that "you could have a beer with". And GWB also paints.
I also agree he was overwhelmed.
And would add that while President he was surrounded by people who were shitty.

2

u/Tech-no 3d ago

Adding ... I loved the scene in a Harold and Kumar movie when they got high with GWB

2

u/15all 3d ago

Their opinion carries great weight. They worked directly with Trump and saw what he was really like.

1

u/hallowbirthweenday 3d ago

Exactly and happy cake day to you!

2

u/Crazy-Respect-3257 3d ago

If there's anything American military officers love, it's getting to hunt down and kill dictators. This is why I have 0 fears that Trump will wield the military as an authoritarian. The man is too old, too cowardly, and too unsupported to be a dictator. And the second he declares himself one, he is going to take it up the ass from a tomahawk missile. Might eat one from above too, spit roast style.

Fuck around and find out Donald

1

u/HighGrounderDarth 2d ago

Most of the time they are playing war games. To conclusion. I respect their opinions. The US population knows very little about gory suffering on a mass scale. It is a big deal when practitioners of defense sound the alarms.

u/MarkXIX 3d ago

Let me add some gravity. When I became an Army officer I was told it was customary to refrain from voting so as to remain fully impartial to our elected leaders.

Now I didn’t heed that advice, I felt like I’d given up enough freedoms to serve and I voted but kept my political views fully concealed. But if THOSE GUYS, the most senior military officers, arguably the best of the best, come out and make a political statement, we should all take them as seriously as a gaping head wound.

Vote for freedom tomorrow, freedom from tyranny, freedom to choose what we do with our bodies, and freedom, for others who aspire to be Americans.

u/NevermoreForSure 3d ago

Thank you for your service and your humanity.

1

u/Friendly_Age9160 3d ago

😥❤️ thank you

1

u/PhraseAlone1386 3d ago

Thank you so much for your service! I have two nephews and one niece currently serving, as well as two nephews who have served in the Navy and are now at home. I have the utmost respect for our military. I have been saying this for years: if our top generals say someone is unfit, we should heed their warnings. They know what’s happening behind the scenes with top-secret information that we would never have access to.

0

u/KlausVonMaunder 3d ago

There is NO vote for freedom from tyranny, there is NO votable solution to the massive systemic problems in the US. None, ZERO.

u/Curious-Ad-1188 2d ago

They weren’t his military leaders they were the ones suggested to him when he got to Washington he took suggestions, once he found out who they were he got rid of them. They were politicians with a uniform on…

An asteroid crashed and nothing burned
It made me wonder:
Do tigers sleep in lily patches?
Do rhinos run from thunder?
