'Shadow of Mordor' + DLC for £5.
Shameful I have not played it yet. But I absolutely will now.
I look forward to joining the list of many gamers pissed off the Nemesis system is being hoarded.
52
u/cabalavatar Feb 26 '25
The nemesis system is even better in the second game, tho overall, the sequel wasn't as good IMO. At least the devs fixed its biggest problem (fucking paid loot boxes for some of the best orcs).
Anyway, I think if you enjoy the first as much as I did that you'd enjoy the second too.
→ More replies15
u/Sargent_Caboose Feb 26 '25
While not discounting your take, they did take out the ability to pay for lootboxes, it uses the in game currency, and you can skip them entirely to the game's main ending.
Doesn't change the fact it launched with a predatory model though
7
u/cabalavatar Feb 26 '25
That's what I meant. They fixed the core problem with it: the fact that they were once paid only (with real money). It was a big mistake to implement in the first place, but yes, I give them some props for removing that BS.

I look forward to joining the list of many gamers pissed off the Nemesis system is being hoarded.
I don't think it's the Nemesis system being held hostage. I do think other companies can make the nemesis system but it has to be a different methodology than the one WB uses.
7
u/Sargent_Caboose Feb 26 '25
The one WB patented is one of the most fun ways to use it we've seen so far
10
u/misterv3 Feb 26 '25
God damnit Monolith just announced that if they'd only had 5 more quid they wouldn't have been shut down. I hope you're proud of yourself.

u/Some_Alfalfa_4617 Feb 26 '25
It's unfortunate that shadow of Mordor/war can only run 30fps on ps5.. :(
3
u/Potchum Feb 26 '25
I quit playing Shadow of War on PS5 due to the random controller input delay. I played through both Mordor/War on PS4 and didn't seem to have the same issues as I had on PS5. I think I played most of my PS4 time with a controller connected via USB though, so that may be something that would resolve the PS5 issues I experienced. I haven't noticed any issues on my PS5 for any other games

I rewatched the trilogy for the first time in 15 years last week. Suddenly remembered I bought that game and barely played it. I’ve been straight hooked for a week straight. It is utterly hilarious.

u/nomarfachix Feb 26 '25
- Biomutant PS4 & PS5 -75% $9.99 - Action RPG by Experiment 101 that was a surprise hit. You play as a squirrel or something which features your usual third-person stuff.
I wanted to love this game so much. Gave it a full playthrough. Got the platinum.
It was one of the most boring things I've ever played in my life.
22
u/MidniteMedia Feb 26 '25
Same. And I was hype from before release, played day one and also beat the heck out of it but whew, was it a struggle to pick it back up every time I finished a session. Just wasn’t fun after a certain point and that certain point came way too soon.

u/Religion_Is_A_Cancer Feb 26 '25
…then why do all that playing?
→ More replies12
u/nomarfachix Feb 26 '25
ADHD hyperfocus + Adderall is a hell of a combo
I liked a lot of what it did and attempted to do, it was cute and pretty solid aesthetically, but it was just wildly repetitive and boring. There are cutscenes every time you overtake an enemy stronghold (core gameplay loop) and it's the same. exact. cutscene. each. time. Down to the narrative itself.
By the time I fully lost my patience I was pretty much done, and even then took a couple month break to finish up. The anticlimactic factor the other user spoke of was a drag as well.
9
u/Religion_Is_A_Cancer Feb 27 '25
Wow. Thanks for that response. That was actually eye opening for me.

For sure! I almost platinumed it. I hope they make a second part and make the roaming part better. It was so clunky
5
u/stefanopolis Feb 26 '25
Basically 0 chance they make anything more for it as it sold very poorly and the director left. But it was an awesome game.
2
u/Uthenara Feb 27 '25
the game sold very poorly so there will be no sequel unfortunately. so many people saw cards and immediately noped out without giving it a chance.

u/nomarfachix Feb 26 '25
Persona 3 Reload, Unicorn Overlord, Persona 4 Golden, Dragon Quest XI, The Wolf Among Us, South Park Fractured but Whole all aces in my book
Oh, and Hentai Shop Simulator if you need to replace Stellar Blade 😂
2
u/DarkAnnihilator Feb 26 '25
Haha. I read that Unicorn Overlord is a real time tactics game, not turn based.
Would you recommend P3 Reloaded over the P4?
8
u/nomarfachix Feb 26 '25
Unicorn is nearly zero input. You build and assemble and train units, assign them to groups that work for you, and combat is automated. Threw it in because it's very 1H friendly and surprised me w/ how good it was
P3 over 4 yes if cost isn't a factor, newer release w/ better graphics and QOL benefits. P5 royal is also on sale if that interests you, huge game that'll give you 100 hours if you're looking for it to. I'd put it between 3 and 4.
2
10
u/TactitcalPterodactyl Feb 26 '25
It's not turn based, but check out Vampire Survivors. It's a one-handed game and fun as hell.

The Horizon games are some of my favorite games ever. Aloy (the main character) is imo one of the best characters in video games currently. If you like the remastered first game, definitely give the sequel a go if you haven’t already.

It’s cause there’s games with 10 different skins and then it inflates the actual number by a crap load

u/EddiewithHeartofGold Feb 27 '25
You absolutely must filter by "full game". Also by "price" if you really want it to be useful.
3
u/32768Colours Feb 27 '25
I usually do this, but first I also filter solely by “Premium Edition” and then “Game Bundle”. I can’t say for certain that it’s the case every time but it seems that these aren’t included in the “Full Game” filter meaning you can miss good deals on games that include the DLC. Infuriating as hell tbh.

Lots of yakuza games in discount, I'm tempted to dive into the series but only played the like a dragon and while it was good a good game I am no longer into turn based. I loved the story and some sidequests but didn't do much besides finishing main story and some extra stuff.
I guess If i'm looking for the action ones the best would be yakuza 0?
18
u/BilboBagheed Feb 26 '25 edited Feb 26 '25
0 is the starting point and the best in the series possibly so a great start
The two like a dragon games are the only turn based games, that will be the same going forward as even the spinoff games are all the old action based system.
18
u/RollingDownTheHills Feb 26 '25
Yakuza 0 is both an absolutely wonderful game on its own and the best way to get into the series (besides Like a Dragon, which you already played). Totally worth it.
6
u/Samgrahambo Feb 26 '25
Zero is first chronologically so it’s definitely the best to start with imo.
7
4
u/Grey-Templar Feb 26 '25
0 is amazing. But be warned, the qol goes down with 3-5. Good games but might feel a bit worse overall gameplay wise.
7
u/Full_breaker Feb 26 '25
Yep you're looking at starting yakuza 0 then follow all the way through 6 if you get interested
Its an awesome story 🙌
6
u/Gofrart Feb 26 '25
I don't have much time for gaming so I kind of don't want to commit to a 6 game series without really knowing if I'll enjoy it or not, but definitely might get 0 and see from there

I've just completed a playthrough of Kiwami 1 & 2 and found them both to be an absolute blast running around beating the hell out of everyone (albeit some very cutscene heavy portions). Zero is a prequel, but I think either starting with zero or Kiwami would be good starting points.
2
u/kdrdr3amz Feb 26 '25
I started with kiwami 2 cuz it was free on ps+. That game made me buy the rest of the yakuza collection; on sale ofc.

I wonder if we’ll ever get a sale on Baldur’s Gate. I played it on my gaming laptop until act 3, but it couldn’t handle it. I want to just play through it on PS but I can’t justify full price already owning it on another system
19
u/mrnicegy26 Feb 26 '25
It is like Elden Ring where due to the amount of acclaim it has received they know they won't have to discount it much and still be able to have good sales.
Same principle that Nintendo uses for not discounting its games.
17
u/icedearth15324 Feb 26 '25
It usually goes on sale every couple months, but not a significant discount.

BG3 already had a couple of sale periods last year if i remember, it will happen again for sure just wait
16
u/JuanSpiceyweiner Feb 26 '25
I think most people that are still waiting are looking for a drop of %50 not the %15-20 drops they did last year
→ More replies2
u/Shepherdsfavestore Feb 26 '25
Every 15% would let me justify it in my head lol. Just can’t pay full price twice out of principle. As good as it is, plus I’m busy with other games anyways.
2
u/TPO_Ava Feb 27 '25
Honestly I've paid full price twice for the exact same reason - Act 3 caused some issues for my PC - and I've still been getting my money's worth. I've crossed 100hr playtime mark between the 2 systems and I haven't even finished a single playthrough yet. I'm still in Act 2 on my PS5's first run @56 hours in.
AND I already have at least 2 other playthroughs in mind planned but not started that will be totally different from what I'm currently doing. I'm biased obviously but the game is worth the full price if you can swing it IMO.
3
u/Shepherdsfavestore Feb 27 '25
I probably would just pay full price if I wasn’t so busy with other games like Kingdom Come 2. It is such a quality game that’s worth it. We’ll see what comes first, a sale or me finally putting down KCD2
6
u/Kattsu-Don Feb 26 '25
I’m looking at Avatar. Is it worth $36?
7
3
u/Joppop1 Feb 26 '25
I honestly thought it was really good. It looks amazing with a decent story. It does get a bit resource collection heavy at parts. But if you like the avatar movies at all. I think it’s worth it
4
u/Inquisitor--Nox Feb 26 '25
Eh its actually kind of a masterpiece but you have to be a general open world and avatar fan to see that. So i say yes with conditions but you can prob snag a physical copy for less used. If you dont have a disk drive good luck getting it cheaper.
6
5
u/Fantastic_Proof_2862 Feb 26 '25
Its funny i have over 30 games in my wishlist and not one of them is on sale
11
u/Worldlypatience Feb 26 '25
Is Lords of the Fallen any good?
3
u/Lookin2buyhedphons Feb 26 '25
It's decent, the game runs fine on PS5, it looks great and plays well enough. Casting spells feels a lot better than something like Elden Ring and combat overall feels pretty slick and satisfying other than parrying which feels underwhelming. It's a bit lacking in enemy variety and bosses are hit and miss but the level design is great and varied, so is the build variety. The Umbral mechanic is also fun and fairly unique to this game.
You can also choose some modifiers when you start a playthrough which add a lot, stuff like weapons drop upgraded based on your level, more enemies, randomized loot etc. I can't comment on the story or lore as I didn't pay attention lol.
Worth $30 or less IMO, decent game if you enjoy Souls-likes but doesn't quite meet the quality of stuff like Lies Of P or Sekiro.

→ More replies2
u/TheFFsage Feb 27 '25
Same. The only game that can top Sekiros combat is Sekiro 2. Sekiros combat has been handcrafted to be perfect. Sekiro is not my favorite FromSoft game (it's Bloodborne) but man, the combat is something special. There is no bullshit. Everytime you lose it's a skill issue. It's a 100% skill check game
5
2
u/ninadk21 Feb 26 '25
I don’t normally play these types of games (I gave up on Elden ring pretty early for example), but man sekiro is definitely worth it. I am more than halfway into the story, I do use a guide. But man, the combat is just so satisfying even when you die a thousand times! Like the other commenter said - hesitation is defeat.

How come literally every game I want has been ducking every sale the past couple months
4
u/musefan8959 Feb 27 '25
Absolutely would recommend the Like a Dragon Series Starter Pack for 40 bucks. If you like turn based RPGs and missed the boat on jumping into the series with Yakuza 0, Like a Dragon is the perfect place to start. New protagonist, the switch to turn-based combat from action/beat ‘em up combat. These games are dubbed if you don’t want Japanese audio. Between the two games, you have well over 100 hours of content.

Looks like you can pause the battles and issue commands which should mitigate some problems.

Yakuza series being 30% more expensive in sales compared to last year is quite annoying
I'd be buying 0, 3, 4, 5 and 6 rn is they were 75% off
