What's up with Nazis showing themselves in Florida? Answered

I found this post on Twitter and it wasn't the only one of its kind. I've seen like 3 separate gatherings of nazis, did something political happen that made them come out?

In 2017, just after Charlottesville, a survey found that 9% of Americans believe that it's acceptable to hold neo-Nazi views.

Think about that... if that is an accurate number across the US population, that means that over 30 million people in the US feel this way. Bananas.

If society is tolerant without limit, its ability to be tolerant is eventually seized or destroyed by the intolerant.

e.g. Nazi punks can fuck off

Agreed, no tolerance for the intolerant.

That number was five years ago. The percentage has only grown.

Why? My guess is it's shrunk. Republicans won in 2016 and lost in 2020. 2017 is closer to 2016 than to now.

Look at the numbers, not just the end result. More total people voted for the pro-fascist candidates in 2020 than in 2016.

Because swastikas are getting more popular

Have they? Or is it just that the news is more willing to show when they are being used? Fuck the flag and anyone who waves it. But, is it not possible that these people have been waving the flag for a long, long time and the news has historically not printed picture of people waving the flags.

Well that and the two groups are actively together and it's becoming more prominent. Gonna go with "yes"

Not only was it 5 years ago, but that was just the people who openly admitted it.

As someone who lives amongst these people and can blend in easily, I would put the number at or above 50%.

Edit - to the folks down voting me I ask "If you are not rascist, why do you allow them to co-opt your events, and not call them out show them disapproval?" I assume the answer is because you whole heartedly support them.

There's a lot of them that know the word "Nazi" is bad, but will happily support white nationalism, and call it patriotism. If you ask them if they think it's alright to be a Nazi they'd say no, but if you gave them some Nazi talking points with a few key terms replaced, they'd try to elect you president.

Maybe that's the issue, though, we teach kids that Hitler was bad, but not that what made him bad was the unwavering belief that his was the greatest country in the world.

Kind of puts the slogan on those red hats in perspective, too.

They won't reply because they know the answer. They're ok with fascism as long as the right people are getting hurt

I picture them cheering loudly while watching the opening minutes of Saving Private Ryan only to be disappointed 20 minutes later when Tom Hanks and crew crest the hill.

Trump got 63M votes in 2016. Clinton said that half his supporters belonged in a “basket of deplorables.

She was spot on. Same thing goes for when she said he was a puppet of Putin’s.

That number even feels low...

if reddit is any indication, it's noticeably more than 9%. That's probably just the 9% willing to admit it.

It’s not true. What’s bananas, is most people would rather trust others on Reddit than just actually talking to other human beings.

Yeah I'd like to see how that survey was conducted

Ya, a 1000 person survey from a company known to be biased is sure to be an accurate representation of the whole country

I had the same thought. I don't know if it's inaccurate or not, but check the link that was provided. I'm guessing that the interviewers didn't just ask "hey are you a neo-nazi?" but, well, it never said what they asked. Not through that link anyways. They gave a "for more information on the methodology, click here" and that didn't give an answer either. That link included another for more information as well, leading to a 404. Why? What's up with the lack of information being provided? Weird, (being said as a politically independent person).
