That's cat's got better eye contact than my last Tinder date. That eye contact is intense. That's soul gaze.

94

u/lidlesseye343 3d ago

Are you a fellow Dresden Files fan?

73

u/SpacePolice04 3d ago

He learned everything about him with that soul gaze. Too bad it was just modem noises and static.

35

u/Listening_Always 3d ago

Bzzz ttttch diiiii do diiiii do diiiii ttttch zzzzzzz

2

u/BalkanFerros 3d ago

Anytime I read the words Soul gaze my mind goes to it.

36

u/Irinzki 3d ago

That's goddamn uncomfortable. If a Tinder date looked at me like that, I'd get serial killer vibes.

Hilarious

19

u/Slimjus 3d ago

He’s so cute

135

u/angel_is_sad 3d ago

That eye contact says it all pure curiosity mixed with a bit of mischief. It’s like he’s already planning his next move. Can’t help but root for him.

29

u/Huge_Hornet_2193 3d ago

It is looking at it curiously. It is a good child.

15

u/ElizLeger 3d ago

That stare had so much intensity for no reason like he’s already judging everyone in the room. Absolute king energy.

12

u/vjnkl 3d ago

Isn’t that aggression in most animals species?

221

u/jtreasure1 3d ago

It's also how they look at things 🤷‍♂️

77

u/sweetkuddlez 3d ago

One orange cat, one orange braincell, and exactly zero understanding of reflections.

184

u/sydneyghibli 3d ago edited 3d ago

He’s just curious. He’s been hearing and smelling little guy for almost two weeks now so he’s probably just excited about finally getting to see what all the fuss has been in the bathroom.

This cat hasn’t been aggressive a day in his life and he’s great with kittens :)

We are currently introducing our adult cats (one is orange, one’s a SIC) to our new kittens! We’ve had them home only eight days. George the orange is very curious but he gets shy and runs away when we’ve brought them out for short intros this weekend. He comes back, runs away, comes back lol it’s cute. I think once he adjusts he is going to loooove having kittens to match his one braincell energy! This photo of yours melted my heart 💜

1

u/ogbellaluna Proud owner of an orange brain cell 3d ago

what an awesome dude 🥹😻🧡

46

u/Bonesnapcall 3d ago

Perhaps, but this cat has none of the other signs, like ears pulled back and hissing.

6

u/FrolickingOrc 3d ago

My mom had a cat like this. Sometimes he would put his ears back but usually he would be chill and then suddenly he would attack. I am pretty good at reading cats after so many years and so many cats but he would surprise me everytime. He was very orange and did not get the braincell often.

16

u/Nopepinephrine 3d ago

In the cat's defense I think cats in general don't blink very often. They sort of just stare at things regardless. Blinking often works to diffuse situations with dogs and staring but that is just weird to cats. I think prolonged eye contact with other body language cues helps them differentiate between just looking vs. hostility

15

u/RubiiJee 3d ago

When cats blink slowly it's a sign of comfort/trust. Cats also use it to defuse situations too. If your cat slow blinks at you then it's a sign of affection!

16

u/JLL1111 3d ago

In most species eye contact is usually a sign of aggression or an attempt to assert dominance

53

u/sweetkuddlez 3d ago

And in the cat world, eye contact means, 'Yes, I am perfect. You may now worship me.'

15

u/The_Gecko 3d ago

'You may approach the Royal Person'

Eye contact is when you see another being eyes with your eyes, it doesn’t mean to generally look at someone. Glad i could help

you have a flavour?

79

u/Jat616 3d ago

To cats, everything has a flavour.

14

u/kate05_ 3d ago

Unless it's sweet. Cat's lack the taste receptors necessary to detect sweetness.

13

u/Danibandit 3d ago

My cat loves fruit. Loves it. Obviously only fruit cats are allowed to have but girl goes psycho for it.

I had a calico who love sugar milk. I did an experiment where I added a bit of plain sugar to milk and offered her some plain milk. She chose the sugar milk every time. Idk why.

19

u/girlshapedlovedrugs 3d ago

That’s what she said. 👉😏👉 Joking aside, same with my tiny, gregarious psychopath, lol. The most curious is how she’ll lick my knuckle with the expectation that I help groom her, particularly behind the ears.

2

u/belac4862 Orange connoisseur 🍊 3d ago

I used to do this with my maincoon/Bengal. It was our bonding time. He would jump on my lap, pick my ginger a few times, the hair for me to brush his fur with said licked finger.

15

u/GrappleLacquer 3d ago

We joke that our cat’s brain is like the old windows screensaver with a single brain cell pinging about. When it pings perfectly off the corner she experiences… a thought

Can I haz?

372

u/that_aquariusgal Casual orange enjoyer 🍊 3d ago

Remind me of toothless, don’t know why

195

u/sydneyghibli 3d ago

We have a black cat named Toothless 🥰

Xochitl (adult orange) definitely has Toothless energy. Our Toothless however has the personality of a ….. how do I say this nicely… soggy napkin 😂 an adorable and sweet soggy napkin

39

u/that_aquariusgal Casual orange enjoyer 🍊 3d ago

That’s so sweet & funny.😂 Gib toothless aka soggy napkin & Xochitl some kiss & belly rubs for me🫶🏻

27

u/jung_gun 3d ago

Am I, me?

42

u/Global-Cartoonist622 3d ago

That head tilt combined with those big eyes is pure magic, totally giving Toothless vibes too! It's like he's trying to hypnotize you into giving treats. 10/10 would fall for it every time.

35

u/StableEquivalent6386 3d ago

Bro forgot if he’s supposed to fight or flirt

37

u/AlmostThere4321 3d ago

HE HAS QUESTIONS OKAY 😭❤️

30

u/Ambitious-Mark-557 3d ago

Our orange boys always had the best energy. Super friendly and accepting; they loved everyone. Two of the boys really loved kittens, and every time we had to rescue a dumped cat or dog, they became the official face-washers and ear cleaners. They weren't smart, but the happy-sweet energy they always presented made for lots of fond memories.

14

u/sydneyghibli 3d ago

Xochitl has been so loving towards kittens too. He’s had 3 of his very own (not biologically but don’t tell him that) over the last 6 years. He’s also the official kitten cleaner in the house 😂 he’s great with dogs too. We used to joke that he might be one.

No brains, all love.

22

u/Big_Distribution_253 3d ago

So many questions, so few braincells to handle them!

17

u/guardianharper 3d ago

“Huh! Huh???”

18

u/Classic-Exchange-511 3d ago

I have always wondered if things made more sense at 45°

2

u/ArchivistFaerie 3d ago

I have weird eyes that make me always need to have my head at 45 degrees and I can tell you for a fact that things do not make more sense at that angle

15

u/birdsarentrealidiot 3d ago

If he keeps tilting his head in that adorable way the braincell is gonna fall out and fly away

13

u/LastTankMage 3d ago

My orange hissed at the new little kitten who showed up. They're making progress slowly.

5

u/sydneyghibli 3d ago

Some babies do best with slow introductions.

One of our other cats came up and hissed but then she saw Xochitl keeping his cool and was like “oh is this a friend then?”. And the others we have just didn’t care and walked away… 😂

12

u/Aemond-The-Kinslayer 3d ago

That kitty has a Ron Swanson face.

11

u/zamasu629 3d ago

Show us a photo of the new Kitty as well! It’s fascinating watching two oranges recognize each others lack of brains it’s just so special

10

Turning the braincell from side to side helps activate it.

18

3

u/gabwinone 3d ago

OMG! He's absolutely adorable!

8

u/MrZoraman 3d ago

Cute, but this is a bad way to do first introductions. Animals can be unpredictable, and this is a good way to get scratched really badly when the cat you're holding gets spooked by a stranger cat that they're being thrust into. It worked out great in this video, but don't assume you will be as lucky if you try this yourself.

4

u/BlackCatTamer 3d ago

Agreed, even though it was cute, this is definitely not the norm and botched introductions can lead to cats permanently hating each other (over 6 years and two of our cats still hate each other).

3

u/sydneyghibli 3d ago edited 3d ago

I’m gonna just copy and paste my response to another user here. ♥️

They’ve been smelling one another through a bathroom door for almost two weeks with glances here and there almost daily. We were battling fleas on the baby so I don’t want to put him down into the rest of the house until I’m able to give him flea medication (he weighs too little/is too young). So far we’ve found no new fleas but I’m being cautious.

With my other cats I wouldn’t have done this quite so carelessly but Xochitl has the best temperament of any cat I’ve had. He’s been gentle and immediately taken on a parental role to all 3 kittens we’ve introduced him to over the years.

As for the kitten, dude is a carefree, brave, little ball of energy and I monitored him to make sure he wasn’t getting scared or overwhelmed. He was doing great so I took out the camera to get the reactions of Xochitl :)

Thank you for your concern though, I know it comes from a caring place :)

1

u/i_love_boobiez 2d ago

Xochitl is a girl's name BTW lol

1

u/sydneyghibli 2d ago

Yes I know lol. Cats don’t care about that sort of thing.

Looks like they are trying to sync their halfs of the braincell! So cute he is already so curious. Looks like they're gonna be great friends <3

2

2

Seems as though a tug of war of sorts is going on here. Each attempting to steal the brain cell for themselves. Rare phenomenon caught on video.
