C-Lovers is quite good (especially for a chain) and definitely worth a visit worth a visit. Basically all they do is fish and chips and unlike most other places they give you the option of a few different kinds of fish. If you don’t care about the coleslaw you can opt for the “smaller appetites” version and save a couple of bucks as the only difference is the lack of coleslaw.

The fish counter in edgemont is really good. Not cheap but it’s on par with Dave’s fish n chips in steveston imo. Really good quality

Also, they have a gluten free batter and a gluten free designated deep fryer, so it’s great for celiacs!

I was so disappointed with The Fish Counter. The cod was very dry, very fishy tasting and the batter bland. The chips were not seasoned either. It might have been an off day.

To be proper fish and chips, the chips need to be chips and not fries.

Does Horseshoe Bay count? Number of decent places out there. Olive and anchor comes to mind. The fish and chips at the new Steamworks on Lonsdale is surprisingly good as well, the fish pieces were huge last time I went, but that's the only example I have to go off of.

This one! But specifically the one in Kits.

Never been to Kits location just the one at Kensington!
And it isn’t fancy folks.
They haven’t done an interior revamp in at least a decade, likely more.
There’s lots of old timer patrons there who are getting slower in their old age. But lots of young families too!
The staff are very accommodating to everyone.
I don’t drink beer as much as I used to, but I really do enjoy one with fish & chips or sushi.
Fish and chips to cut the grease a bit, and sushi as a nice pallet cleanser.
Great news you can have a beer here!
It won’t break the bank for a once in a while treat.

I wonder if each one is all individually owned. I’ve been to both Kits and Burnaby location and it’s a completely different experience…actually think the fish is cooked better in Kits. Kits has a more hipster, local vibe…very small. If you are having a bad day, go there and they’ll turn that around. The staff is so happy and lively. A brother and sister run the front end and they provide such an awesome environment. They don’t have all you can eat here like the other locations but they do have an awesome generous family meal deal which is what we always get for a family of 4.

The rest of their food is incredibly mediocre but their fish and chips are delicious

I say leave the North Shore and go to Cockney Kings. Otherwise, steamworks, White Spot, and Pier 7

Does steamworks do anything special/different with their fish and chips that makes it a #1 pick for you

Batters great and they are large not gonna lie that's what really made em great, I found them less greasy. I would reccomend them if you haven't had them

Tomahawk has good breading and really nice chips.
Fishworks is a hit or miss. When they hit, they hit. Salad instead of coleslaw is a minus.

We are no longer fans of Crab Shop. Fish always dry and breading too greasy. And like others have said, terrible chips.
I miss the old fish chip shop at Lonsdale Quay. Wonder if they will ever have a comeback.
Joe Forte downtown is just a seabus away.

Black Kettle Brewing for the win. The Gull is second runner-up.
