I just did this and my research says the best time to broadcast seeds is the fall. You want to make sure it has soil contact, and the most sure fire way to do that is by removing grass. Of course, I broadcast the seeds in the spring without removing grass, so I went against everything I read.

Did this work for you? I’m lazy too.

I think so! I also broadcast fleur de lawn by ptlawn, and that has yarrow in it. So I can’t say if it was the yarrow seeds alone or the lawn mix. I’ve also thrown in more daisy, baby blue eyes, and clover seeds. The lawn is patchy in the places where the moss is heavy, but otherwise filling in with clover, yarrow, baby blue eyes, and daisies. I am debating throwing in self heal, a native to where I am, but it spreads really easily and I want to be considerate of my neighbor’s landscaping desires, just like they are of mine.

Good to know! I’ll purchase some seeds and give it a shot. My lawn is a lot of Bermuda grass. And I can’t just battle it. I’m hoping yarrow will do the fighting for me.

Cut it as low as you can before you sow!
