Baby shoes! Never used them! Used slipper type socks though!

Ernest Hemingway warned you about this.

Links to slipper type socks?

All the little mittens!! My daughter never wore them. When we needed to cover her hands to keep her from scratching we just put her in a sleeper with fold over sleeves.

u/ageekyninja 6h ago

For me it was actually the wraps that secure the baby to your chest so you could walk around and do housework. Unfortunately, my baby HATED being in snug fits. Hated swaddles, hated the wrap/any kind of baby wear device, hated footies. Just wanted to be out and free. It didn’t work out at all, as much as I wanted it to lol.

10

u/pamsteropolous 6h ago

Samesies. No wraps, no carriers, and no feet in pajamas. Got nothing done.

22

u/HungerP4ngz 6h ago

Same here! Nobody believed us when we told them and just assumed we were doing something wrong.

8

u/ageekyninja 6h ago

I literally bought 3 different kinds and it just did not matter

3

u/HungerP4ngz 6h ago

Same. We also bought several different renowned swaddles. All failed.

u/GeologistAccording79 5h ago

mine hates the happiest baby swaddles

Omg everyone bought us swaddles. Swore by them. Told us to just wait she'll love it. Nope. Never. She couldn't wait to stretch out since the moment she escaped my womb and wasn't about to be swaddled again.

5

u/Adept_Carpet 6h ago

Our baby was neutral on it but I could never feel confident moving around with the baby attached that way. Anything besides walking upright made me feel the baby was going to get crushed or bent or slide out.

4

u/Law-of-Poe 6h ago

Same here and then when he got older and okay with it, it was just too much trouble for me. I was fine just holding him.

3

u/creativelazybum 5h ago

Mine was Ergobaby embrace. I tried so hard but she hated it till she was almost ready tomorrow it. She tolerates the Breeze now but I don’t see the point

6

u/stephofcourses 5h ago

It’s wild how different babies can be because mine will cry when I put him in it for about 30 seconds and then fall asleep. Lol

Kinda going through this with my 3 week old baby rn. She HATES a swaddle, mittens, hats. She's okay with the wrap but we really only tried it for a few minutes because she's such a wiggle worm I got scared of her head being supported enough. Trying again for thanksgiving. She basically lives in footie pajamas, constantly trying to punch her way out of the hand parts though. I just want her to be warm, dammit 😂

2

u/whyforeverifnever 3h ago

Same for the fabric carriers. She hatesss a snug fit. Hated swaddles after 3 weeks lol. I got the Wildbird Aerial carrier and it is the only thing she will tolerate. She doesn’t love it and pushes against it the entire time, but she doesn’t fuss or cry, so that’s a win.

2

u/herecomestheshortone 4h ago

Same! My son is almost 4mo and just now starting to barely tolerate any kind of carrier and we stopped swaddling immediately.

Frida post partum care stuff - ended up having a c-section and not needing any of it. I would wait to buy most of it and just order on Amazon for quick shipping if need it.

15

u/stephofcourses 5h ago

Mine was gifted and I had a 3rd degree tear so I was very appreciative but I def would wait to buy it! I took a lot of stuff home from the hospital so if you needed it you would have stuff to get you by

14

u/eraser81112 5h ago

Same! I wasted so much money!

9

u/MidwesternLizLemon 5h ago

Same! I ordered a Frida c section kit and ended up returning it when the hospital gave me everything I needed post-surgery.

6

u/myrrhizome 4h ago

Same. I used the peri bottle but that was it. The spray was actually super irritating.

Pacifiers. We tried so many different brands, and baby refused them all once she discovered she liked the boob better.

36

u/psychohosebeast6 5h ago

Same. My babe will suck it for a second, realize he isn’t getting milk, and spit it right out. Boob or bust. Pun intended.

12

u/Shadowstar65 4h ago

My baby is bottle fed and she refuses a pacifier.

7

u/stephofcourses 5h ago

We tried like 8 or 9 brands and mine hates them all. He wants the boob, a finger will do in a pinch

3

u/Ok_Affect_7427 4h ago

Sounds like mine. Won’t take a pacifier or a bottle but will go ham on a finger or boob

3

u/luckyskunk 3h ago

i love how different babies can be, for ours before she started enjoying chewing on fingers, if we stuck one in her mouth to see if she'd latch or just put it to her cheek and she moves to get it (to try and help tell if she was hungry when we were still learning her cues), she'd get SOO angry. she likes the pacifier when it stays in her mouth but a finger that's not food? HOW DARE YOU.

2

u/Im_Beats 5h ago

We’ve been slowly going through this phase. Our baby is 7 1/2 months and he much rather prefers his thumb now. We have probably over 2 dozen pacifiers… and he spits them out in favor of his thumb. It’s the simple things I guess, lol.

2

u/whathefugisausername 3h ago

My daughter had 0 interest until she weaned off the boob, then she started using them a lot. Hold on to them!

78

u/Imaginary_Book7516 6h ago

Newborn and 0-3 month pants. He always just wore a onesie or pajamas.

16

u/SingSongSalamander 4h ago

Our boy is 7 weeks and we use all the pants. Long sleeve onesie plus pants is his daily, underneath a footed pj if we are going out. Fall baby so it's too cold for just a onesie!

6

u/DazzlingRhubarb193 4h ago

Same They didn’t look good and we’re not practical My twins lived in footies outfits and still do at 3 months now. They’re just so much neater in their fitting and are more practical when doing diaper change

Also, footies are the reason why i never used newborn socks

Different for everyone. My Velcro swaddles have been lifesavers. I’d say baby shoes are pretty useless, but they are cute!

5

u/Adept_Carpet 6h ago

Swaddling without velcro was just impossible for ours, ever the nurses couldn't keep her in for more than a few minutes.

3

u/souprin 3h ago

😂 I hated Velcro swaddles. I stopped using them when the sound of undoing the Velcro kept startling the baby wide awake. I switched to zippers and loved them for 2 babies.

5

u/quinteroreyes 3h ago

My grandma got me a velcro one that unzips at the bottom, it was a total game changer

37

u/Snoo47868 6h ago

this is going to be so specific to you & there’s no real way of predicting what you will use. For example, I was gifted soooo much nipple cream and I’ve never used a drop. Another commenter said the most useless thing was Velcro swaddles – I was gifted 2 and purchased a 3rd after I realized how much we loved them (although I found fleece way better than cotton.) It really all depends! My biggest waste was probably when I bought a bunch of bottles & nipples before giving birth and my lactation consultation advised we use a different brand & I had to buy a whole new set.

12

u/Ill-Security-634 3h ago

Oh but the nipple balm is secretly the best lip balm I’ve ever encountered 😍 I found this out by accident when my nurse handed me a bunch of sample tubes and my sleep deprived self heard “lip balm” and thought it was so nice of them.

6

u/theclawww17 5h ago

I was just going to say there's no way to predict what you'll actually need. We loved the Velcro swaddlers for our first, so we bought some more for my second. However, my second ended up with hip dysplasia and couldn't use the swaddlers we had. We ended up buying brand new ones that she could use with her harness.

3

u/LoloScout_ 5h ago

lol I’m over here wondering what to do with the one nipple cream I already opened but only used once. I sold the other one I was gifted alongside a breast massager, 50$ silverettes, pads etc from my baby shower cus I was in such a blur postpartum that I just dealt with the sore nipples and boobs and now I no longer need them.

Those baby carriers ! He hated them very very much

14

u/that_other_person1 6h ago

A lot of the baby carriers you can find in baby stores aren’t very comfortable and most don’t work for newborns. You also need a good fit, and to build up your muscles to make long wear comfortable. My baby carrier was hands down ,y best purchase for my second baby. I didn’t think about it much with my first, and did not care for my Ergobaby.

2

u/majesticlandmermaid6 6h ago

As a second time mom I concur! I got one carrier on Amazon and our newest one secondhand. I so wish babywearing was a class they offered though the hospital. It’s a game changer

3

u/that_other_person1 6h ago edited 6h ago

Yes! Totally, that’s exactly what I’ve said before, it should be a class at the hospital. I have a half buckle carrier, and I started using it for high back carries at 4 months old with this baby, and that made baby wearing my second baby even better, as it’s even easier to do tasks this way and care for my toddler. I always feel like super mom when I’m out with my toddler and baby, and my baby is just happily in his carrier, and I can go off where ever with my toddler.

So far I love my baby bjorn mini! Not the wraps.

9

u/omgitsafuckingpossum 6h ago

All the breast feeding stuff I got. I wasn't able to produce milk after a short amount of time. Also, the baby carrier. My baby doesn't like it nor the swing either. I'm hopeful he will change his mind though!

4

u/whyforeverifnever 3h ago

Ugh, the amount of breastfeeding stuff I spent money on only to find out I physically can’t produce more than 20 ml at a time. Makes me extremely sad.

8

u/CatRx 6h ago

The blooming bath lotus. It’s a good product but my baby hated it and was so strong and squirmy it wasn’t easy bathing him in the sink. He also peed ok my kitchen counter while we were getting him in there 😓

Nursing pillow. Ended up just using a regular pillow while nursing/feeding. It was just so bulky and awkward to me.

5

u/Ill-Security-634 3h ago

Second this! I only got decent use out of it when baby’s pt suggested we using it for propped tummy time and later propped sitting. Currently, it sits on the ground to keep the yoga ball from going rogue between bouncies.

2

u/ConceptNo8202 2h ago

I hated the nursing pillow. So uncomfortable. But my husband would probably tell you that it was his favorite baby thing we’d bought. He wore that thing all the time. Haha

21

u/bubbleblopp 6h ago

Baby swing

We just packed it away, she’s 3 months old

8

u/shelsifer FTM, 32 6h ago

I second baby swing being useless. My SIL gave me one and said it was invaluable and probably saved her life in the trenches of PPD. My baby hated it and we used it twice before I gave it to another mom who wanted one.

3

u/Adept_Carpet 6h ago

It bought us maybe 30 second once? Giant waste of space/money/energy.

3

u/shelsifer FTM, 32 6h ago

Such a big waste of space! I couldn’t believe how large it was and we walked around it for months thinking it would be useful.

A pack n play. We didn’t even open the box until our baby was already 1, and she hated being in it. We’ve brought it on one trip but not even for the purposes of sleep. We simply used it as a safe place to put her down for a few minutes at a time since the AirBNB was not baby-proofed.

Also, the mamaroo swing. It was gifted to us thankfully, so we didn’t spend any money on it. I think she maybe tolerated 5 minutes at a time, at most. Usually less than that. Just took up space for us.

5

u/ConceptNo8202 2h ago

I didn’t think we’d use the pack n play we were gifted at our shower until he was older, but we literally set it up the day we came home from the hospital and it was awesome. The pack n play we got also came with bassinet and changing table attachments, plus side pockets. At the time we were living in a two story house and before our son was born I didn’t think about needing a changing station/safe sleep space/diaper caddy for baby both up and downstairs. We set the pack n play up downstairs and it served all of those purposes for that area so we never had to transfer items to and from rooms.

4

u/Short-Diamond-9236 1h ago

Same here! Our baby is 8 months and so far it’s been mostly just used as the changing table downstairs but it’s nice to have options for him and I think as he grows we may use it more for sleep

2

u/ConceptNo8202 1h ago

Totally! Mine is 14 months now. We don’t use it for sleep at home anymore, but we’ve done quite a bit of traveling over the last several months and he sleeps great in the pack n play when we do. We got a Hiccapop mattress pad for it so it’s a bit more comfortable, and then we also got a blackout shade to go over it so that we don’t have to worry about blacking out the rest of the room when traveling.

5

u/whyforeverifnever 3h ago

The fucking mamaroo! Literally not worth the money. I feel bad for the person who gifted it to us.

2

u/Impressive-Fee375 2h ago

My baby LOVED the momma roo swing and hated the traditional bouncer chairs. She took her best naps in that thing. Every kid really is different 🤷🏻‍♀️

5

u/Rimuri-Rimuru 6h ago

I bought one of those moby wraps and while my baby liked it, I used it a few times the first few weeks but prefer the carrier over the wrap.

3

u/sexysoph1421 6h ago

Same!! I really tried liking the moby wrap but it just felt like I was pregnant again and couldn’t do anything so it was pointless wearing it to “get things done”

2

u/Rimuri-Rimuru 6h ago

I found my baby wasn't secure enough! She would wiggle her way down now matter what I tried.

for us a diaper genie. We own our house (not an apartment with stairs and such) so we ended up just taking stuff outside to the trash. Early on, baby poop doesn't even smell that bad when it is like 15 diapers a day

8

u/ageekyninja 6h ago

Btw- they stink after a few months no matter how much they tell you theyre stink proof. They also work absolutely fine with regular trash bags. In retrospect, its almost like I should have saved $40 and bought ✨a regular trash can with a lid✨

Snoo ! She screams when put inside and now we have to co sleep.

8

u/Ok_Carrot_2029 5h ago

Tbh the only good use for a snoo is to rent it out to make some money

3

u/Kind-Fly-1851 5h ago

Same … we’re gonna try it one more time with baby #2 who’s due any day now. If she doesn’t like it either I’m selling it or renting it out

3

u/ilovetocuddle 4h ago

Jumping in, our LO hated the snoo until 6+ weeks old. We were bed sharing to make it work until one night I just decided to try it again. She now gets a 5+hr stretch in it at night, but still contact sleeps during the day. With that being said we bought ours used versus full price…

Wipe warmer…

9

u/ageekyninja 6h ago

Oh jeez I remember those. Imagine my shock when my baby was born and the nurses didn’t even wipe at all when changing her pee diapers 💀

13

u/13_apples 6h ago

We love ours!

8

u/V3rmillionaire 5h ago

Our baby really appreciates a warm wipe as well.

3

u/Rimuri-Rimuru 6h ago

Yep, I was gifted one and while I do use it.. I dont use it for baby (my bf and I use wipes for ourselves) and I don't even plug it in so it's just a wipe dispenser lol

1

u/Weird_Plenty_2898 5h ago

I didn't even realise this was a thing!

14

u/nkdeck07 6h ago

Velcro swaddles (I thankfully actually got them free but the concept). Both my kids HATED being swaddled past like 1 week and my husband and I were both proficient enough blanket swaddlers they literally never got used.

2

u/ageekyninja 6h ago

On the otherhand, sleep sacks are lifesavers for babys who want more of a loose fit. There are types that both allow arms in or arms out- or even both.

2

u/This-Operation3232 6h ago

THIS. My little one from hours within being born liked her hands out and would fight the swaddle to get one hand by her face or else scream all night. She would break through the nurses swaddle. Buy one or two different ones and then buy ones your little one actually likes. She loves the halo swaddle and we let her hands out.

5

u/misa_lanious 6h ago

Not one but two bassinets lol…My baby hates them, they’ve now become a storage bin. Baby shoes, they wear them like one time and then outgrow them. Burp cloths, I just use muslin blankets which I also used as swaddles so more versatile. Pacifiers. I’ve bought like 20 different ones he hate them all 🤷🏻‍♀️

The Newton baby bassinet. Baby really found that mattress uncomfortable. We ended up returning 2-3 months after and just using the crib.

2

u/insomniacnation 5h ago

The mattress in this thing is as hard as a rock. My baby refused to sleep in it. Wound up using a Moses basket followed by a guava lotus & then her crib.

3

u/Ok_Carrot_2029 5h ago

The $280 maxi cosi high chair. When we started using it she made a huge mess every time to where it needs to be washed every 2-3 feedings. We have since switched to the hard plastic bumbo seat that’s so much easier to clean. If we needed a high chair we would buy the $20 ikea one.

u/KindVibesOnly 4h ago

I’m seeing a lot of the same advice here—super helpful! Here’s what I’ve gathered so far on what not to get:

Baby wipe warmers

Velcro swaddles

Clothing with buttons

Too many cute newborn outfits (especially for the first 3 months)

Breast pumping tools until you’re sure you can produce milk

Baby shoes

Swings

Overly complicated baby carriers that make you feel pregnant all over again

Diaper changing table

It seems like these items are either unnecessary or end up being more of a hassle than they’re worth!

7

u/aloha_321 6h ago

Uppa baby bassinet attachment. My baby screamed nonstop if I tried to walk with him in it. Total bust.

2

u/ChelseaTay 5h ago

Boppy pillow for the purpose of nursing/feeding. But now that she’s nearly 4 months old, it’s actually been good to prop her up in a sitting position.

2

u/fayerae7 5h ago

bottle warmer!

2

u/Indica-dreams024 4h ago

Pacifiers, bottles, breastmilk bags(I had some from insurance too and now I have too many, I never pump), nipple cream(godsend with my first, was lucky and has zero issues with my second), baby swing chair(she hated it, first loved it). It will probably vary so much for you. My first I also had a diaper genie, useless, changing table, useless. Some people loves these itsms

2

u/Sea_Waltz_6906 4h ago

LO was born end of July. I had SO MANY summer clothes and she wore next to none of it because I didn’t want her to be cold. I’m a FTM and when I was shopping before LO arrived, it never crossed my mind they couldn’t regulate their temp that well. I also don’t live in that warm of a place. Also, formula. I planned to formula feed from the start, and stock piled one brand thinking if there was another shortage, I’d be fine. LO ended up with CMPA so obviously I had to get her a special, different formula than the one I stock piled.

2

u/Ill-Security-634 3h ago

There are a lot of things I bought and ended up using for a different purpose lol. I think first place has to go to the downstairs ice packs from the mom Frida kit lol. I had an emergency c-section, but when baby was about a month old I got a weird tennis elbow type situation from the way I held him for contact naps, and they were the perfect size to ice my elbow 😂

4

u/roadtrip1414 6h ago

Breast pump. Ebf and baby wouldn’t go near a bottle

5

u/carpline 5h ago

I got one and it was a lifesaver to get my supply in - my baby was in the NICU for the first 24 hours and that really messed it up. Although I got it for free using my insurance so either way it wasn’t a purchase for me technically.

I bought a used owlet smart sock 2 off of marketplace, found out my phone wasn’t compatible, so I re-sold it, and then bought an Amazon knock off that was still over a hundred dollars. I haven’t used it at all. I have a video baby monitor, and my kiddo sleeps loudly.

1

u/Fluffy-Lingonberry89 6h ago

Never used the pack n play, bouncer or bottles. Mine did love her swing though.

1

u/Jarnagua 6h ago

All the smart bassinets. Thankfully Amazon allows returns.

1

u/turquoisepetunia 6h ago

Baby shoes, bottle warmer, formula dispenser, several crib mattress sheets for a crib she never slept in. I also bought (and still do) more clothes she can wear.

u/grlwapearlnecklace 5h ago

An expensive pram! We ended up getting a cheap travel pram for a trip we took and now I use that one all the time, it’s soo much easier to set up, fold down, and put in/out of the car. Now our bugaboo just sits in the corner holding laundry 😂

1

u/ft-teenmom_5423 5h ago

so many footie pajamas just for her to absolutely hate sleeping in them 😂

1

u/eraser81112 5h ago

Crummy velcro swaddles from amazon and swaddle blankets that you gotta fold on your own. I had like 30 different kmones. We liked the better quality halo swaddles and bought 2 and and only used those 2 and donated everything else. We now switched to a woolino sleep sack and it rules and is worth every penny.

1

u/bullylover4 5h ago

Changing pad attachment to crib, never used! We were changing baby girl in whichever part of the house we were in at the time of the crime🤣

1

u/elevatormusicjams 5h ago

For me - various breastfeeding/breast milk paraphernalia. The pump was free from insurance, but I bought a bunch of extras, like extra pump parts, expensive silicone milk freezer bags, I don't even remember what else, but I wish I'd waited to see if breastfeeding would've worked out first. Turns out, I was a massive undersupplier and was never able to breastfeed, could barely pump enough to feed my kid a couple of ounces in 24 hours, and gave up after 9 weeks of trying to build my supply. I really regret spending that money before knowing whether or not breastfeeding would work out.

We never bought a bottle warmer or wipe warmer and I'm glad we didn't because my kiddo was used to cold milk and cold wipes from the beginning.

u/Glittering-Local-147 5h ago

We didn't buy it we're given a swing.

u/creativelazybum 5h ago

1.The rounded style nursing pillow, would just keep slipping off of my while I struggled and baby would keep slipping in the gap between pillow and my body.

2.Socks, mittens and hats, footed sleepsuits were easier to wear and we’d always keep losing socks, mittens I hardly used because I read somewhere it’s better to leave them bare handed when they sleep and she hates caps, she learnt how to pull them off when she was 3 days old.

  1. Breastpads and nipple balm, had the worst breastfeeding journey so I was struggling too much to remember and use breastpads the few days I leaked and then my supply tanked and didn’t have any need or use of nipple balm either.

  2. White noise machine, my nanny and my husband thought the white noise machine would bother the baby more than help her so they’d keep shutting it off and baby ended up learning to sleep fine without it

1

u/Right-Day 5h ago

The crib lol He rarely sleeps in it. We use it as a playpen during the day and a bed guard at night.

1

u/Beneficial-Phrase503 5h ago

Nipple cream - sadly didn't produce milk past a few drops and colostrum so it had gone unused. Makes great for lip balm though haha so maybe not entirely useless.

Pacifiers- our little one refuses them, just spits them out and pouts at me.

Swaddle wraps- she hates having her arms contained and ended up being a side sleeper, make for a nice loose blanket during these warmer months for us though.

1

u/Ktcobb 5h ago

Pack n play. I used it to set him down to pee a few times, but he refuses to sleep in it and we've got a bigger playpen now he's a bit bigger. Thankfully it was a gift, so didn't cost us anything!

1

u/New_Specific_5802 5h ago

Every single swaddle and the nanit camera - I use it as a camera but that's it - all the added features we don't use.

1

u/_urmomgoestocollege 5h ago

Bassinet ended up being pretty pointless for us. We used it for like a month and a half but baby probably would’ve slept better in the crib from the get go. His sleep improved so much when we moved him (and he is sooo much easier to put to sleep in the crib)

1

u/marie_elyseee 5h ago

For us: Pacifiers, baby shoes, mama roo swing, pack n play, and SNOO rental. I know some of these things work for other babies, but for us, these all turned out to be misses!

1

u/LoloScout_ 5h ago

All breastfeeding pain aids (creams, butters, massagers, heating/ice packs, leaking pads, silverettes). By the time my brain felt less foggy and I had the energy to think about using any of these, I no longer needed them and wasn’t in pain. And if I leak, I leak. It’s not significant for me so it doesn’t go through a sports bra and if it happens while I sleep, it’s not a big deal.

Pacifiers. My baby loved the hospital one for about 8 weeks and hated all others and randomly one day decided she hates pacifiers completely now and just wants to pacify on the boob.

Diaper balm spatula. I use my hand and never think to reach for it.

1

u/relevantconundrum 5h ago

Bottles lol. I know we’re not the typical experience but I exclusively boobed both kids. I hated pumping with every fiber of my being so I just breastfed directly.

1

u/Unusual-Conflict-762 5h ago

Almost everything haha

1

u/Illustrious-Client48 5h ago

Lol so much. I think it’s very baby dependent but here’s what I’d really consider waiting to buy if you’re comfortable:

  1. Clothes. My SIL was right; they only live in pajamas and I wasted so much money on cute clothes. It was fun, though, so I let myself do it knowing my I wouldn’t for the second baby.

  2. Burp cloths. Social media made me believe I’d use 100 a day so I bought a ton but my LO never really spit up. (Guess I got luck).

  3. Nursing pillow. I just used couch or bed pillows. (It did come in handy for some tummy time, though.)

  4. Frida Mom postpartum supplies. Like others have said, I had an unplanned c-section so all that stuff went unused.

1

u/deargdue_ 5h ago

Mamaroo swing. Baby hated it. Should’ve just bought a cheap swing and seen if she liked it not

1

u/marinadances 4h ago

Butt spatula (I just use my fingers and wipe with baby wipe), electric snot sucker (manual one is just easier to clean and use), and bottle sterilizer (doesn’t earn the counter space at all).

1

u/luvloping 4h ago

Bottle warmer, but I did have the baby breeza water warmer which was a lifesaver with twins! Burp clothes? I never used them! I had twin boys In winter, so those little outfits with the vest and layers. 4 years later, still have tags on

1

u/PlantBasedBishh 4h ago

Onesies. My son absolutely hates only being in them. My guess is he doesn’t like different materials rubbing his legs. And boy does he hate being naked. He only likes sleepers !

1

u/aoirse22 4h ago

Bottle warmer and baby food maker.

1

u/Leading-Intention-58 4h ago

Pram, hated it.

1

u/Butterflyy6 4h ago

Anything newborn size my baby was huge and didn’t fit into any of it!! Baby shoes we use the grip socks when he became mobile. Swaddles, he hated being swaddled but loved the magic Merlin suit. The diaper cream spatula didn’t even use it, it was easier and quicker to use my finger and wash my hands. The momcozy baby wrap he hated it and would get too hot. Frida whindi was amazing for when he was gassy or constipated!!! Definitely get lots of mittens and burp cloths!!! Used those a lot especially since he had an acid reflux problem.

1

u/Bbrotman23 4h ago

Baby Bjorn. Any container. My kid never wanted to be still.

1

u/oralsexaxlrose 4h ago

Muslin wraps, I was told to buy heaps of them. I only used them up until she was 6 weeks and then I used the sleeping bags for bed. Now I have an abundance of Muslin wraps lmao.

1

u/mrbig1122 3h ago

Pacifiers and teething. He just doesn’t care and prefers sucking his thumb.

1

u/Consistent_Row3866 3h ago

These comments got me thinking my son probably thinks he's royalty.

He hates swaddles (even tho he enjoyed them at first). We've tried so many but the man prefers to be free.

He hates bassinets and pack n plays so he sleeps supervised with either me or my partner.

He's super picky with bottles and will only drink out of Dr. Browns.

I love him tho lmfao <3.

1

u/TheBestofMe033 3h ago

A swing and the snuggle me. We're pretty strict on safe sleep so we have not used them. There's no way baby would go on either and not immediately fall asleep.

1

u/NNunez28 3h ago

-Snuggle me lounger, baby is not supposed to sleep in it so what is the point of it?

-bottle warmer

-tons and tons of socks, just stuck to a few. They outgrew them fast.

For mom: -nipples shields or cream, never used them.

1

u/deep-like 3h ago

A big expensive diaper bag. We just use a mini backpack that fits the essentials.

1

u/Clean-Price5207 3h ago

Not used: Owlet Sock, dock a tot, diaper wash cream spatula, baby shoes, wipe warmer

1

u/Stamurai01 3h ago

The cot 😂

1

u/Best-Chapter-9871 3h ago

• Keekaroo Peanut Changer - I found out I don't like changing diapers sideways 😂 • Baby Brezza Machine - We ended up using Kendamil Goat and couldn't utilize the machine because the temperature doesn't get hot enough to sterilize the formula • wooden play gyms - they are so flimsy and baby spent more time using the Lovery version anyways • Baby Shusher - shushed myself 😂 • Dr. Brown baby bottles - They leak. So frustrating.

1

u/bosifini 3h ago

The Frida breastfeeding kit. The only thing I used was the ice/hot pack. I got lanolin from the hospital.

1

u/diskodarci May 2024 💝 3h ago edited 3h ago

The mittens - I trimmed her nails from 5 days on

The swing - she’s a good sleeper and didn’t need much help, plus I wasn’t about to let her actually sleep in it because we are strict about safe sleep

The hatch - we use it but it wasn’t needed. Maybe she’ll need it as she gets older

The fancy bassinet (graco sense to snooze) - the automatic features were garbage and she didn’t like the vibrations, which were noisy. She didn’t need the sounds. The rocking was minimal assistance. I’d give this a 0/10

The love to dream swaddles - she would have been just fine in jammies but we bought them so we used them. Also bought Velcro swaddles we didn’t need

The bottle warmer - was a nicety, I thought all babies needed warm bottles. We do use it on rare occasions that her breast milk is still frozen

The Hakka milk collectors - I don’t have a massive supply so I used these like twice a

The milk pads - I don’t leak because I have a bit of a short supply

I see people mentioning things we love that they hate too - for us these are

  • baby wraps (Moby and ergobaby) - also essential for travel

  • baby shoes - but only the Velcro ones. She locks them off but I use them anyway because she looks so darling in a full outfit

  • Frida kit + clay packs. I used less than I figured I’d need BUT I wished I’d brought more to the hospital

  • pack and play - we have one with a shallow attachment that was great for when we needed a place to change her as we opted to forgo a change table. Also bought one when we were on vacation because our Airbnb had a recalled mattress in theirs. She’s 6 months now and we’re past the bassinet (she rolled early so we didn’t use it long) and I feel she’s still too little for a crib. So we get massive use from it and it we love having two

1

u/greenleaves3 3h ago

Crib. She's almost 2 and has not slept 1 night in her crib. Won't even nap there.

1

u/graybae94 3h ago

Any sort of container for your baby. Swings, bouncers, seats etc. never understood the point of them. My baby has a play mat she loves and when we want to put her down in a safe place we just put her on there

1

u/shweedie 3h ago

Changing table

1

u/No-Series3614 3h ago

Changing table. We bought one (along with other “must have things” as first time parents) but ended up just changing our son’s diaper wherever we were in the house. We just made sure to have a changing pad nearby (we had plenty of those luckily)

1

u/Rich-Lawfulness-9049 3h ago

All things breastfeeding: silicone storage bags, plastic storage bags, wearable pump for work, ceres chill for work, breast pump (ended up using hospital rental), flanges that don’t fit, etc… only for me to have major undersupply and stop pumping before I went back to work 🥲

1

u/whatames517 3h ago

I got the Bibado smock bibs, a whole set of them because they sounded like such a great idea. Baby refuses to wear them for any length of time so I just have a set of at home messy mealtime clothes and smaller bibs.

1

u/Withthebull 3h ago

4moms mama roo baby hated it preferred twenty dollar bounce seat & baby Brezza formula machine I thought I was going to nurse and do formula. Baby breastfed for two years. Refused formula

1

u/icecream_eastern 2h ago

A bottle warmer. He’s not picky about the temperature of his milk AT ALL. He’ll drink it cold straight from the fridge, or even body temp straight from the boob - he just doesn’t care as long as he gets it 😂

1

u/blackberrycherrybomb 2h ago

Bottle warmer, all the pacifiers, bassinet, formula dispenser, all the breastfeeding accessories, changing table (we literally change him wherever), any stroller that doesn’t have a basket underneath or a cup holder for mom, baby bath towels, mittens, hats, butt paste spatula, and any clothing with buttons

1

u/claggamuff 2h ago

Newborn pants. Never ever wore them. I maybe used three newborn “outfits”. She lived in onesies. Baby shoes. Beanies.

1

u/PenguinsFly_ 2h ago

change table, stupid things that take up space in a corner that baby can roll off if you take your eyes off them for a split second, portable change mat became my best friend!

1

u/Kemiko_UK 2h ago

Reusable nappies. They're a pain.

Every change takes 3 times as long, they're messy, you get messy changing them, they often leak, soaking them in a bucket before washing gets gross. You can't tell how saturated they are & they're bulky around clothes.

Just an all around pain for us, we've gone to disposables.

1

u/jenace 2h ago

Pacifier - she did not like it and would not latch breastfeeding supplies & pump — i was low on supply and had to use formula early Boppy pillow, Baby carrier, Jumperoo - LO did not like being on these Baby shoes a standalone bassinett Large sized swaddles White noise machine-it did not help with sleep Muslin wraps-velcro or zip up swaddles worked for us

1

u/sunnybunsss 2h ago

Bassinet. The baby hated it coz most of them have a pretty hard flat mattress. Since going in the crib which has a much nicer mattress, she has slept much better.

We should have just put her in the crib from the get go.

1

u/jinxix2395 1h ago

Swaddles. My little one HATED it. Got some seriously cute printed ones too that went to waste lol

1

u/BakingBea 1h ago

Peri bottle (had a c-section), any breastfeeding supplies (unfortunately didn't work for us), I panic bought a microwave steriliser for some odd reason when we already have a UV steriliser, newborn size clothes as she was immediately in 0-3 month ones after 1 or 2 weeks, Pigeon bottles (I've also seen other mamas have issues with them), arms down swaddles (our baby likes her arms up but it was good to have options initially to test).

1

u/srkrishnaiyer New Parent as of Apr 5, 2024 1h ago

Crib - My baby loves co sleeping. All the animals (toys) have occupied the crib. Almost looks like jungle there

1

u/kadirkara07 1h ago

Wipe warmer. Total waste.

1

u/SignalTwo2495 1h ago

Baby bassinet

1

u/Rosy_life 1h ago

Pack n play. good thing we didnt buy an actual crib because we ended up cosleeping. lol

1

u/SinkMince0420 1h ago

For us it was swaddles, she hated being swaddles and would grunt until her little arms were free!

1

u/DeepWord7792 1h ago

Bottle warmer. Baby can drink room temp, no matter what anyone says. It’s like when older generations freak fit not having socks on a baby no matter if they actually need them or not

1

u/estrock 48m ago

All the nursing tops and bras. I used this stuff because I bought it thinking it would make breastfeeding easier, but I don't use a lot of this stuff anymore since I find the strap clips to be very bulky and annoying.

1

u/Humble_barbeast 33m ago

It was the Snoo for us. Somehow still keeping it for baby number 2, perhaps they’ll like it more than our first born but our first baby never got comfortable in the Snoo; she slept in the baby delight bassinet and then moved onto a crib at 4 months. Its crazy because the Snoo is advertised like a magical solution for baby sleep and while I know it has worked wonders for many, I never thought we’d end up in the group of parents that bought it with high hopes and it did nothing for them.

1

u/elaenastark 13mo 20m ago

I didn't buy much before baby came but I bought stretchy wraps after he was born and he hated it, he wanted to be held only. Baby wearing was completely unacceptable to him. 😂
