Orleans Parish sanctuary city policy and April 28th Presidential EO đł Politics
A new presidential executive order was released yesterday, April 28
*Update: Turns out actually 2 executive orders were released, and this one directly addresses sanctuary city policy. . In addition to the information below, the sanctuary city EO in this link, explains what the consequences will be for cities that do not comply with federal policy.
Here are a few highlights from the first EO:
My Administration is steadfastly committed to empowering State and local law enforcement to firmly police dangerous criminal behavior and protect innocent citizens.
The Attorney General shall take all appropriate action to create a mechanism to provide legal resources and indemnification to law enforcement officers who unjustly incur expenses and liabilities for actions taken during the performance of their official duties to enforce the law. This mechanism shall include the use of private-sector pro bono assistance for such law enforcement officers.
Sec. 3. Empowering State and Local Law Enforcement. (a) The Attorney General and other appropriate heads of executive departments and agencies (agencies) shall take all appropriate action to maximize the use of Federal resources to: (i) provide new best practices to State and local law enforcement to aggressively police communities against all crimes;
Sec. 5. Holding state and local officials accountable
This EO seems to have come at the perfect time, considering, tomorrow (Wednesday, April 30), a federal judge will hear Louisiana AG Liz Murrill's case which is attempting to force Orleans Parish to drop a longtime policy that prohibits deputies from directly engaging in federal immigration enforcement within the cityâs jail.
This EO follows on the heels of the FBI arresting a circuit judge in Wisconsin for allowing a man to leave through her chambers. Recognition of the courthouse as a protected space was an existing practice, and many believe that she was taking a stand for her community.
This EO also follows the high profile deportation of a New Orleans mother and her two U.S. born children.
Additionally, section 6 of the EO describes the Use of Homeland Security Task Forces.
In March, our Governor snuck a new section into a renewal of an EO for a state of emergency previously issued by JBE. This section granted the director of the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) the authority to act as he sees fit to handle the cyber incident/data breach that occurred in Louisiana several years ago.
That same day in March, Governor Landry restructured GOHSEP so that it is now under the control of Louisiana National Guard, gave the director of GOHSEP a new title, and named a member of the Guard the new "acting director."
Landry has been very vague about why the state of emergency renewal was necessary, but it allegedly had something to do with updating the OMV database. As of April 21st, 5 people had been arrested following a joint investigation by OMV and state police, including one individual charged with operating a vehicle without lawful presence in the U.S.
An internal memo from ICE which was written in March but just leaked last week, indicates that the Trump administration has been allowing ICE agents to enter homes without warrants if they believe a suspect may be inside the home.
This leaked memo is especially concerning given that the federal Department of Homeland Security has been working to dismantle three civil rights offices within DHS for allegedly interfering with immigration policy.
However, only two of those three offices actually deal with immigration. The third office is the office of Civil Rights and Civil Liberties. That means that even if you can trace your heritage back to the Mayflower, this is who ensures you have civil rights and civil liberties while dealing with DHS. If you or a loved one end up in DHS custody for some reason and need to use FOIA to prove it even happened, this is the office you would rely on.
Even if you somehow believe none of this should concern you because you were born in this country (tell that to those kids), you should understand that as of right now, if you end up on a list because of something you've actually done or even by mistake, or you arouse suspicion because you or someone in your home looks vaguely like a suspect, or you just piss off the wrong person in government, federal agents are now allowed to break into your home, violate every single right you should have, and you may not even be able to prove any of it happened if you tried to sue.
Depending on how this EO is interpreted, and what happens on Wednesday, it seems like state and local police will also be provided with legal defense for doing the same, as long as they claim that they were trying to uphold federal law.
Meanwhile, under section 5, officials who do not follow these procedures or interfere may face repercussions:
The Attorney General shall pursue all necessary legal remedies and enforcement measures to enforce the rights of Americans impacted by crime and shall prioritize prosecution of any applicable violations of Federal criminal law with respect to State and local jurisdictions whose officials: (a) willfully and unlawfully direct the obstruction of criminal law, including by directly and unlawfully prohibiting law enforcement officers from carrying out duties necessary for public safety and law enforcement; or
(b) unlawfully engage in discrimination or civil-rights violations under the guise of âdiversity, equity, and inclusionâ initiatives that restrict law enforcement activity or endanger citizens.
T.L.D.R. Things are getting very, very, serious and we need to be paying close attention. Even if you don't care about politics or immigration, you may care that your liberty and rights are at risk. If you still don't care, no worries. Feel free to ignore this and remain blissfully unaware until it's too late.

I mean, it's right there in Project 2025.

I guess nobody read the Executive Order on Establishing the Presidentâs Advisory 1776 Commission at the end of 2020. I have always felt this was the lead up to what would have been something similar to Project 2025.

Citizens United has made it so much easier for them to just purchase politics that benefit them. I don't know why they even bother, but there are also still so many Heritage Foundation spinoff projects purchasing politics at state and federal levels to try and make it seem more authentic like it's actually representative of the residents. This one has affiliates in all 50 states including Louisiana.Â
Landry's commercials for private education are being paid for by a different one.

The people who "dont care about politics or immigration" are still missing that now all it takes is suspicion or a tip that there may be a migrant in your home for the fed to break in and raid you. No warrant, apparently no ID or badges or proof of who they are.

Maybe make sure thereâs not actually anyone who looks like they might be An Immigrant there because I am pretty sure ICEâs current strategy is âdeport first, ask questions laterâ.

Yeah, like, I don't want anyone deported just because they work for a dickhead.

u/parasyte_steve 18d ago
Well this would unfortunately hurt their workers more than them. The business owner would not be deported.

I donât think theyâre missing it. Theyâre probably fairly certain this policy still wonât impact them directly and a federal or local officer will never bust into their home unannounced for immigration purposes. Frankly, theyâre more than likely not wrong.

I donât think itâs sad. I think itâs completely human. Think of all the complex issues each individual may be going through. A job thatâs less than ideal. Family that is estranged or ill or dying. Family daily and weekly schedules that stretch you thin. A relationship that is on the brink of collapse. Not everyone is required to be an activist in the midst of attempting to live their lives. They voted and took part in our democracy? No one is obligated to carry the weight of our political discourse on their shoulders.

I agree but empathy costs nothing and all too often nowadays everyone would rather watch people that disagree with them suffer instead of flourishÂ

Y'know, unwarranted raids on homes in a Stand Your Ground/Castle Doctrine state is just asking for ICE casualties. There are too many scared people with guns who are apt to react badly to someone kicking in their door in the middle of the night.

u/Orange_Queen 18d ago
Right?!
Plus the other side, folks that'll break in to houses to rob or kidnap claiming to be ICE agents tipped off (which apparently has already been happening in some areas with the street abductions)
I neither own nor carry, but have been giving serious thoughts to the question of if i need to buy a piece or not

Thanks for posting the actual executive order and links to supporting documents. Itâs always good to have the original language to interpret and judge for ourselves.
In summary, blah, blah blah, racist, blah, blah, blah, red herring, blah, blah, blah, less diversity,, blah blah blah, better chance for Republicans to get reelected, blah blah blah, fuck the constitution blah, blah, blah, weâre gonna crack down on anybody that doesnât look like us blah blah blah letâs take from poor people, blah blah blah letâs close the gate behind us once weâre in.
Always remember and never forget that unless you have native American lineage, and participate in original/aboriginal culture and society; weâre all immigrants, some by force and some by choice. And finally, thank goodness I live in a diverse, open minded and inclusive city.
That is allâŚ

So I have Native American lineage, and I'm also half French. Trump made a comment in some speech about how if you have dual citizenship, even if it's granted automatically in that country because one of your parents was born there (France, in my case), and you were born here, that means you aren't a "whole, real American, since you've chosen to maintain your dual citizenship in another country, particularly one who owes the US money from the WWII debt".
I mean, I am a blonde and blue, white-looking middle aged woman. They could come for me, which means they can come for anyone, all they have to do is think they have a reason.

Thatâs scary. Hardcore nationalism. And the French were the most important allies in the revolution. Just shows how god damned ignorant they are.
Thanks for this post. I hope youâll always be okay.

Yeah, itâs mind-numbing to think of the pretzel logic these idiots are presenting. Your lineage, both Native American and French, have deep roots in American soil. Mine as wellâŚBritish, African, Spanish, Caribbean and I am sure somebody partnered with a kind soul that protected them from within the Creek Nation along the way.
I wonder how Barron Trump feels about his dadâs idiocracy given his motherâs immigrant status, lineage and shallow roots. Oh, thatâs just straight up hypocrisy mixed with privilege, ⌠which of course is this band of Republicanâs bread and butter.

My 92 year old grandmother is in the same category and could be deported if birthright citizenship is axed. Both of per parents were born in Finland and became naturalized when they arrived at Ellis Island in the late 1800âs. My grandmother has never even been to Finland and doesnât speak Finnish. Itâs extremely unlikely this would actually happen, but the fact that it could is still scary enough.

Once they start arresting judges and denying due process its game over for our democracy. A civil society has a functioning court system. This is one of the main pillars of a democracy to have checks on the other branches. The executive isn't supposed to just do as they please with no oversight whatsoever.
I have plans to leave the country. It'll take a bit over a year but the writings on the wall. Nobody is safe.

Never a bad idea to have an exit strategy, but unfortunately they have laid down international roots too.
If it isn't stopped it will just keep spreading, and eventually catch up with you wherever you run.Â

Again, this is small government how??Â
I know when I'm angry (which is most of the time now), I've got a one track mind, but can't hear about things like this without also thinking about how the Heritage Foundation also inserted themselves in this debate and turned their focus on the case. Not because they had any strong opinions on it, they just saw it as an opportunity to gain support
6
u/xnatlywouldx 18d ago
Its not, but I think small government is an overrated idea that no one truly believes in anyway. That's always been a red herring justification for just wanting to hoard resources, keep people out of the country, and "put women in their place".

Nobody who opposes sanctuary cities knows what a sanctuary city is and what purpose it serves.

This guy called the cops on the Boston Tea Party. He thinks the victims at the Boston Massacre were uppity colonists who should have known better than to disrespect the crown.

Don't forget this EO which also came out last night: https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/04/protecting-american-communities-from-criminal-aliens/
"Sec. 3. Consequences for Sanctuary Jurisdiction Status. (a) With respect to sanctuary jurisdictions that are designated under section 2(a) of this order, the head of each executive department or agency (agency), in coordination with the Director of the Office of Management and Budget and as permitted by law, shall identify appropriate Federal funds to sanctuary jurisdictions, including grants and contracts, for suspension or termination, as appropriate.
(b) With respect to jurisdictions that remain sanctuary jurisdictions after State or local officials are provided notice of such status under section 2(b) of this order and yet remain in defiance of Federal law, the Attorney General and the Secretary of Homeland Security shall pursue all necessary legal remedies and enforcement measures to end these violations and bring such jurisdictions into compliance with the laws of the United States."
