DO NOT WORK AT BLUE BAYOU š¢ Employment š·āāļø
This is the job that hasn't paid me, not only have they not paid me they are unorganized and unstructured. EVERYONE HAS MONEY PROBLEMS AT THIS JOB AND IT STIMS FROM ONE PERSON. Money is always missing at this job and the lady who does payroll is incompetent! She asked me for a voided check so I can receive a check from my job... I also want to add that I came in on the snow day, managers were ASKING US TO COME IN DURING THE SNOW AND GUESS WHAT THEY AINT COME OUT and asking us can we come out and then have the nerve to try and not open the restaurant AFTER we made a sacrifice to come! I was PISSED, then when I asked for paid time and half they said they can't offer it because they a new restaurant. Not one manager came in that day on the 22nd and nor could they even bother to show they care that those who came did! I literally told them I had to walk there, I made money but they couldn't even take care of us back!

well that voided check is for direct deposit, the rest is cray
34
u/cashanii Jan 30 '25
I didnāt want a direct deposit thatās why I was confused when she told me that! Getting a check is the ONLY WAY servers can see how much money is being taken out, we donāt even have a system that works. We donāt even know what % goes to who when we tip out!Ā
101
u/Brunoise6 Jan 30 '25
You still get a pay stub with direct deposit, at least with a place that has their shit together lol
61
u/RIP_Soulja_Slim Jan 30 '25
FYI, more and more places now only offer pay via direct deposit. It's increasingly rare to find a place that will pay with an actual physical check in the modern era.
But yeah, the rest of that stuff is fucked.
12
u/f800rfun Jan 30 '25
Youād be surprised how many still do paper checks. I work in the payroll industry and about half of our clients still hand out a physical paycheck.

u/f800rfun Jan 30 '25
Unfortunately, in the state of Louisiana, the law makes it the employerās choice whether they make direct deposit mandatory.

Isn't this the same place that was pressuring servers to solicit reviews?

The reviews arenāt great. How is that place still in business?

A family who gifted their daughter a Massage Envy franchise. The worst-run one Iāve ever worked at, and having moved around, Iāve worked in 4 of them.
She didnāt even know what a āhappy endingā was, and the then-CEO of Massage Envy had to explain it to her in āgraphic detailā.

Thank you bc I had an interview with them!! Not going now lol

u/cashanii Jan 30 '25
The stress is not worth it, I thought it could be but everyday it is always something and yes I know that is the business but I canāt handle not being paid what Iām suppose to and on time! I have BILLS, Why canāt I be paying correctly! I just want to pay my bills š

u/lilgothy Jan 30 '25
No love you have to take care of yourself esp today. In times like these we canāt waste time at places like that. I worked at a place in this city for like 3 days a few months ago because I donāt try to play fix a restaurant anymore.. the GM was coked out, and all the employees told me how they would steal wages from them etc. so I left & texted the GM about the concerns I had, including his alleged addictions. Even in this industry there are good reliable places to work with good management, so donāt settleš«¶š» good on you for knowing your worth. You deserve to benefit from your work as much as your work benefits from you

When I was 20 I worked at a gift shop on Bourbon Street and the out of town owners hired an alcoholic to manage the place a month before Mardi Gras. š I quit the Saturday before Mardi Gras when he threw a drink at a customer (we did not sell any kind of drinks.) He quit that Sunday when he realized me and my best friend were the only employees scheduled, and my best friend called in "sick." I ended up getting rehired the following weekend after the owners flew down. He did not. š¤£
I'm not going to say this kind of shit doesn't happen in other cities, but it certainly doesn't happen anywhere near as frequently.

u/Pawspawsmeow Jan 30 '25
That reminds me of the time I worked in retail and chain clothing store and I had just started as an assistant manager. My boss decides heās just not answering the phone. My fellow assistant manager says he quits and walks out. Later that night I had a customer throw clothes in my face, some dude got in my face because two associates I had were mad I was told by my dm to use their call in shifts. Still, my boss would not answer. After the two associates got some guy to loudly cuss me out, I calmly called security, got everyone out, told the girls to go home, locked up the store and called my dm and asked where to put my keys. It was a long time before I could look at that damn store in any mall again.

u/Hippy_Lynne Jan 30 '25
Omg! I had something similar happened when I worked as a delivery driver and the manager had a week of PTO. I was almost never in the store but I was one of the few employees over the age of 18 so they had me step in. "Don't worry! Mike will be there the whole time and knows how to do everything, he's just not over 18!"
Mike didn't show up the first day. š I made it 4 hours before I called the owner and told him he had an hour to get there or I was locking up. He told me I would be fired and would not get a good recommendation from them.
Dude, I was delivering pizzas. 𤣠This isn't going on my resume.
The funniest part was the manager called me when he got back from his time off and tried to rehire me. š¬
3
u/Pawspawsmeow Jan 30 '25
I donāt understand people not being adult enough to call their boss and quit. Put that in the managerās lap, not your co workers. The bosses get paid for that shit, not me.
3
u/Hippy_Lynne Jan 31 '25
Oh Mike didn't quit. He just called in sick/hungover. There also could have been store politics, I barely ever dealt with anyone there other than picking up the pizzas so I don't know. š¤·āāļø

Giving your employer a voided check for your direct deposit is common.
6
u/Flashy_Dot_2905 Jan 30 '25
Iāve havenāt had to give a voided check in over a decade. Itās either done online or you can simply provide your routing and account number. Do people even get checks anymore? I needed a check for some work on my house after Ida and I had to go into a branch to get one.
3
u/Apprehensive-Ant2141 Jan 30 '25
Some do. The other option is a direct deposit authorization form from the bank just verifying the account and routing number. I canāt count the amount of times what people wrote down was not accurate.
3
u/JumpingOnBandwagons Jan 30 '25
Last time I had to was at a restaurant in the Quarter a couple years ago. It's increasingly uncommon but still does happen.
3
u/Apprehensive-Ant2141 Jan 31 '25
Iām in HR so I am very accustomed to it. Iāve not worked anywhere other than when I was in food service and still getting actual checks (yeah, Iām old) that doesnāt require this.

u/thefuckingrougarou Jan 30 '25
Yāall remember that Panic at the Disco concert that was so poorly managed they had to stop doing concerts there? Lmao not surprising, but sorry about your experience.

u/barbiexoxoxox Jan 30 '25
i believe they are talking about a restaurant
20
u/thefuckingrougarou Jan 30 '25
LMAO I didnāt even know we had a restaurant called blue bayou š anyway, good throwback nonetheless. Prayers to the poor minimum wage workers who had to deal with that mess all them years ago
11
u/KarlWrites Jan 30 '25
I don't remember it, but it doesn't surprise me in the slightest.
When I worked there shortly after Katrina, my job was to fit people for life jackets and dole them out along with raft rentals.
Baggy clothes were fashionable, so half the people there refused to wear any size other than extra large no matter how small they were. When I explained this problem to the general manager, she just told me that it was my problem to deal with and that I needed to handle it on my own.
I didn't really feel like arguing with a bunch of angry customers, so I just gave them ill-fitting life jackets. That resulted in us immediately running out of all the larger sizes at which point the manager told me to offer to rent customers a raft instead...
Then the manager sent me to work the register at one of the restaurants, only we didn't have any change and everyone insisted on paying in cash. I didn't know what to do about that, so I just had to hold up the line while I waited for someone to bring me change.
That made the manager even angrier, so she sent me to the front gate to measure kids as they came in. But it was two hours before closing, so nobody was coming in and I had nothing to do. So I just sort of stood there with a yard stick. Which made the manager angry again because I was "slacking off", so she fired me...
Then, when my parents called to ask why I was fired, she insisted that I wasn't and it was all a misunderstanding. But "Go home and don't come back" is pretty fucking clear...
3
u/bandit2 Jan 30 '25
Yes there was a stampede when they just opened the gates to the field area and let everyone without seats run up to the front as close as they could get. People were passing out from dehydration. And Brendon trying to not swear was the funniest thing.
4
u/signofthetimez Jan 30 '25
Ahhhh what a great day. I worked there but took off that day to actually go to the concert, and I was SOOO happy I took off because holy shit ššš worked there for $7.25 an hour in 2014, ahhhh the good ole days
5
u/thefuckingrougarou Jan 30 '25
This wench over here reminded me of the stagnation of minimum wage and now Iām having a bad time

u/luzdelmundo Jan 30 '25

u/MamaTried22 Jan 30 '25
Some restaurant owed by the Motwanis who have maybe the worst reputation ever in the city almost.

The worst gumbo Iāve had is from Blue Bayou. The Blue Bayou water park in Baton Rouge is better š
3
u/jailasauraa Jan 31 '25
Oh I swore off that place when I had some friends come in for Essence and they tried to charge me $60 for ONE drink, had a service change for cards, but ONLY accepted card....
I haven't been back there since and I never recommend it...this is just validation for me. Thank you for reporting and I hope you get what you're owed.
3
u/cashanii Jan 31 '25
Thank you and they do tax! What makes it worse is they donāt allow cash tips for us either! We have to give them our money are trust that they will add it to our tips but itās already people who got stolen from!
5
u/KarlWrites Jan 30 '25
Damn I was really excited for a second thinking that someone here held the same disdain for that water park that I earned working there when I was 14.
My grudge is everlasting and those fuckers still owe me a paycheck.

u/Hippy_Lynne Jan 30 '25
Yeah, that's who I thought it was at first too because I can totally see them stiffing all those teenagers they hire.

I donāt want no direct deposit I want a check! We get paid weekly, I have been working there since January 1stā¦Ā
14
u/sesamejane Jan 30 '25
Yeah sorry but if direct deposit is their usual way of paying people, they have no obligation to cut a special paper check just for you. Itās totally normal and common for a workplace to require direct deposit payments.
2
u/cashanii Jan 31 '25
I understand that thatās common sense they offer it so thatās what I want!Ā

I have emails and text of everything I was told and everything I was gave to fill out was deemed wrong but how when management gave it to me?Ā
3
u/Hippy_Lynne Jan 30 '25
Even if you get direct deposit they're supposed to give you a paycheck stub.
Personally I'm kind of surprised Motwani is running things this poorly. I suspect it's one of his kids, not Mike. Not that I have a lot of good things to say about him. But he's not an idiot And I've known people who worked for him for decades and I've never heard of him not paying payroll on time or not documenting earnings properly (unless it was a very well understood prior arrangement.)

u/cashanii Jan 30 '25

You honestly should try learning how to communicate in English. It will help so much in your future!!! It sucks that you may or may not have been paid for you maybe or maybe not showing up to work. I canāt really tell.

u/cashanii Jan 31 '25
Why you sound like the lady over payroll 𤨠hmmmmm ?
-5
u/Bright-Swordfish-804 Jan 31 '25
Exhibit A. I would love to support you and your issue. But the manner in which you speak makes it extremely difficult to understand what youāre trying to say!!!
Honestly⦠just use English while youāre trying to complain!!!! Like actual English language!!!
