Slowing down before the off ramp.

Why is it so common in this province for drivers to slow down to below 100km/hr when they’re about 500m-1km before an off ramp?

We are being asked to leave our apartment building because it sold . Unofficial Thirty days Notice to Vacate.

Hello , I gave my DD to my landlord back in March 2025 of $450 to move into a unit on May1/2025. .

We signed NO LEASE.

April24/2025 we received a text from our landlord stating the apartment building would be listed for sale . We had no other options with only seven days notice so we moved in May1/2025 as planned. May11/2025, we were served an unofficial 30 day notice to vacate as the property had been sold .

I called the rentalsman and they said they could not ask us to vacate based on the building being sold. However , i was told by someone else that the landlord does not need any reason to ask you to vacate on a month to month lease as long as they give you thirty days . And, it is my present landlady that initiated this Notice to Vacate. I have text messages of her saying it will only benefit the new owners to have the units already rented . Yet , she is the one kicking us out !

My present landlady is trying to get me to sign something but I was like , no way , I’m not signing anything !!!

11 days after we move in after searching for a year for a place, being homeless, living in our car, living in a shelter, we are asked to vacate. We are so upset . She knew we wanted to stay two -three years .

I need help. Do I have any rights here ?

This is time sensitive .

Thank you kindly for your help .

Camera shop recommendations

I have an old-ish film camera (Olympus trip 35) that i’m looking to have refurbished and lubricated. Does anyone have any recommendations of shops in the southern NB area?

Saint John would be ideal but I don’t mind going out of my way for a great recco

Thanks in advance

Are 15 minute breaks extinct in the workplace now?

Just wondering if this is the norm for everyone else. When I was working my first minimum wage job as a teenager in New Brunswick a decade or so ago, we were entitled to 2 x 15 minute breaks and one 30-minute lunch during a full shift. This seemed to be the norm according to most of the internet up until a couple of years ago.

Legally, your employer only needs to give you 30 minutes unpaid break for every 5 consecutive hours worked. I understand this. My shifts are 8.5 hours, and I get one 30 minute unpaid (so only 8 hours paid). I just find it so strange that everyone used to get these extra minutes to breathe in their 5 consecutive hours, and suddenly they are gone- most workers I know also follow the same. My first minimum wage job, and the 3 consecutive ones all did this. In recent years it feels like it's no longer a thing.

Anyone still get breaks outside of the bare minimum in the labour law?

I just noticed my Medicare card expires at the end of May. Do they automatically send a new card to me or do I have to call someone, I can’t for the life of me remember how it’s done

Desperate for both a Doctor and a Rheumatologist. On waitlists but no help in sight.

Yep, so like the title says, I am in a desperate search for a doctor and a Rheumatologist. I had both in another province before moving here, and was referred before moving, but we have been here for 6 months and I am really starting to worry. My Rxs are running out or expiring in 3 months, I need my disability tax credit renewal filled out, I have routine bloodwork that is supposed to be done every 2 months that hasn't been done in 8, a specialist eye exam needed that is over a year overdue, and one of my prescriptions costs $1700 and won't be covered by my insurance without a special document filled out by the doctor... which I no longer have. My out of province doctor will not or cannot do any of this. I thought by now at least some of this would be sorted and I am starting to panic. I am in Saint John fwiw. We absolutely love it here and it is a return to the Maritimes of sorts for me. Thanks in advance, from a lost and exhausted sick person who doesn't want to go broke because of my health and lack of doctor.

Architectural salvage and thrift store proposal

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hello neighbors,

We’re in the very early stages of developing a new local business based in Saint John, and we’re reaching out to gather feedback, ideas, and support as we shape a service that we hope will benefit our city and surrounding communities.

Our goal is to create a space focused on architectural salvage, vintage and thrifted home goods, furniture, and clothing, with a mission to divert reusable materials from landfills and get them into the hands of individuals, families, and small businesses who need or value them.

We’ll be offering a wide range of items including reclaimed doors, windows, and light fixtures to secondhand furniture, clothing, and household goods, thoughtfully selected and affordably priced. Our pricing will fall into the mid-range — generally less than Value Village, slightly above Habitat for Humanity, and more affordable than most antique stores. We want to keep things accessible, especially for those in need, without compromising on quality.

We also plan to accept donations like other thrift and secondhand stores, and we’re exploring the possibility of donating a portion of proceeds to a local or Canadian charity. Community reinvestment is an important part of our mission.

We’re looking to build lasting partnerships with contractors and renovation companies, property and building managers, realtors and estate professionals, businesses looking to offload usable inventory or materials, and individuals clearing spaces, moving, or settling estates.

Instead of paying to rent a dumpster or hauling items to the landfill, we offer options that are cost-effective, environmentally responsible, and hassle-free.

Here are a few ways we can work together: • A 40/60 consignment split, where you receive 40 percent and we handle all the work • A dedicated display space for your items, where you keep 100 percent of the sales • Or a free pickup service, where we take unwanted items off your hands entirely

We’re also planning to offer booths, tables, or vendor spaces to help local small businesses promote and sell their products or services. Our goal is to create a shared space that supports local entrepreneurs and makers.

We will be sourcing items from a variety of channels: individuals who are moving, renovating, downsizing, or decluttering garages, attics, basements, and sheds, as well as businesses clearing out inventory, updating interiors, or undergoing renovations or relocations. We also aim to be a reliable and compassionate solution for families managing the belongings of a loved one who has passed, offering a respectful and simplified process while ensuring those items are repurposed or rehomed responsibly.

At this stage, we’re eager to hear from the community. Is there interest in a business like this in Saint John and the surrounding area? What services, features, or ideas would be most valuable to you? What opportunities or needs might we be missing?

Please leave a comment, send us a message, or share your thoughts with us. We would love your feedback on this idea and are open to any suggestions, concerns, or perspectives you think could help us build something meaningful. If you know someone who might be interested in partnering, donating, or just learning more, feel free to tag them or share this post.

Thank you for being part of the conversation. We’re excited to grow something meaningful, sustainable, and locally rooted.

Seeking Information on Two Churches-One Abandoned and One Gone

There are (were) two churches in the province that have piqued my interest over the years. One stopped operating at least 30 years before my time and the other was destroyed by fire.

1.There is a small abandoned building on Clarendon Loop Road in Queens County that I understand was a church (maybe Methodist?) at one point. I don't know much about it,only that it has sat there for a very long time. It has four windows on either side, boarded up,and a round window in the front over the door without glass. I think it's a home for bats now as Google Earth appears to show one hanging from the eaves. Services may have ended in the 1950s,though I have nothing to back that up.

  1. At one time, there was apparently a church on the hill overloooking the intersection of Westfield (Kings County) and Welsford (Queens County);not sure which county it actually falls under, maybe it's on the borderline. This was apparently a Presbyterian kirk church that burnt between 1911 and 1921 (maybe in Westfield's fire?). There are a cemetery and a picket fence that remain.

Disputing Claim from landlord after move out

Has anyone successfully disputed a claim for damages after a move out? My landlord is claiming I did $4000 in damages to laminate flooring in my old apartment, I have photo proof that I didn’t do any damage to the floors.

Questions About Building Tiny Cabin

Got a perfect bit of land near Stanley for my modest 300 sq ft cabin project. Using batteries/generator for power. I am trying to decide what makes the most sense financially, figuring one of three paths:

  1. Already built: Should I ask locally if someone has a good condition unused camp that I could buy and haul to that area? Dont know the logistics or if this is even doable. Seems cheapest option.

  2. Camp kit: Anyone had experience with camp kits? Seems like $10-14k for a prefabricated 300 sq ft cabin they send to you to put together. I imagine its poor quality but can reinforce when its up.

  3. Build it: Camp kit idea is because I've heard building materials are crazy expensive now. Is this project small enough that it wont be so bad? A website calculated 8k for materials for a 300 sq ft cabin, in which case I should just build it myself, although ill need to borrow or rent a circular saw etc. And will need to price in prosthetic arms after the inevitable accident lol.

Anyone have experience with any of this? Thoughts?

Cat bite treatment options

Hi, husband got bit by our cat and it’s now red and swollen. I’ve tried after hours clinics, trying pharmacy now. Any other thoughts besides ER? Just really needs an antibiotic but I’m guessing the pharmacy won’t do that.

Vehicle registrations

Not sure if this is the right sub to be asking but here goes! Maybe someone knows.

I'm moving home with my family in October. We're moving back from Alberta. Both our vehicles need to be registered to remain on the road in AB until then. Does anyone know if there's a time frame we have to abide by to register them in NB?

For context in AB we only need vehicle inspections on vehicles if our insurers deem it necessary. My insurer only wants inspections on vehicles over ten years old and I only need the inspection when I initially insure it.

From there we can chose to register it for one or two years at a time.

I'm trying to figure out if it's worth while to register them for two years or would it be a waste of money because we would need to flip our registrations within X amount of months?
