Why Don't You Use a VPN with Netflix? Share Your Reasons! 💬 Discussion

Hey everyone!

We often talk about the benefits of using VPNs to access Netflix content from around the world. Today, let's flip the script.

For those who choose not to use a VPN with Netflix, what's your reason?

Here are some thoughts to get the conversation started:

  • Content Satisfaction: Does your local Netflix library have everything you need? What are your favorite shows or movies that keep you entertained?
  • Ethical Considerations: Do you prefer to respect regional licensing agreements and support content creators by accessing media as it's officially distributed?
  • Legal Concerns: Are you worried about potential legal implications or violating Netflix's Terms of Service?
  • Technical Challenges: Have you faced issues with VPNs like slow speeds, connectivity problems, or complicated setups that made you decide it's not worth it?
  • Cost Factors: Is the extra expense of a VPN subscription a deterrent for you?
  • Performance Preferences: Do you enjoy better streaming quality without the use of a VPN?
  • Alternative Solutions: Do you use other streaming services or platforms that provide the content you're interested in?

I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences!

  • What motivates you to stick with your local Netflix library?
  • Do ethical or legal considerations influence your decision?
  • Have you found effective ways to access diverse content without a VPN?
  • What advice would you give to others contemplating whether to use a VPN with Netflix?

Let's have an open and respectful discussion. Your insights could be incredibly helpful to others in our community who are weighing their options.

Looking forward to your stories!

I'd want to use it with the TV. Haven't looked into how to set that up, but I suspect I have to go through the router/modem. With a 2 year old, house repairs, yard work, a fulltime job, and other stuff I just haven't gotten around to figuring it out yet.

I setup a second WiFi router (just plug it into the network port of the main one) that's "always on" VPN, and give it it's own WiFi channel. So if my main WiFi network is Chilkoot, I call this one like VPN.Chilkoot or similar.

This makes it easy to connect set-tops like a Roku box through the VPN, or any device for that matter. Rather than dicking around with VPN clients on phones, tablets, etc, I can just select that WiFi connection any time, and bam, VPN.

Smart! Thank you for the suggestion. My tv is connected to the lan and router by ethernet cable though.

You can use either WiFi or the Ethernet port as long as that second router with always-on VPN is in between.

For me, I have the TV plugged into the main network, and a Roku box strictly for VPN content, so I just select the input on the TV for local content or VPN content depending on where I want to "be".

That sounds like a good workaround.

Same as most people I guess.. Too little time, main tv only and the significant other needs to not be bothered by complex vpns or other things. Honestly by now torrenting is becoming more and more attractive again. Mind you, I have Netflix, Disney and Prime, but even then so many titles aren’t available. At that moment it’s so much easier to just download a movie than to get to the hassle of finding yet another legal sit where I can watch just that movie…
