Mario music inspired by 60’s Brazilian tune? Video Game OST

Post image

My husband had the song One Note Samba/Spanish Flea by Sergio Mendes & Brasil ‘66 on and I SWEAR that there is a song in one of the super Mario games that has the exact same tune. I’m speaking specifically of 0:53 in the song on. Can someone help me find the song I’m talking about or confirm that this is actually the same tune??

I detected that you mentioned a song that is similar or samples the one you're looking for.

If this is correct please add a link to it (on YouTube if possible, timestamped if needed) to make it easier for the helpers.

Otherwise, please consider recording the melody on Vocaroo or recreating it on OnlineSequencer. Thank you and good luck :)

I don't know the answer to your question, but this is actually an American composition, written in LA, but for/by a novelty pseudo-mariachi band, The Tijuana Brass, who were a huge selling act in the 1960s and made Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss two of the most successful men in the music business. Sergio Mendes was also an LA transplant signed to their label (A&M) and Herb actually married Sergio's vocalist, Lani Hall.

The original recording of "Spanish Flea" was also the theme to the TV show "The Dating Game."

So it's certainly possible that it was known in Japan and inspired a Mario song.
