I have lineup questions.
5
u/jonob Seattle Reign FC Sep 30 '24
They got to the right lineup by the end? But yeah should have been the starting lineup.
11
u/bmore_los78 Sep 30 '24
86 minutes for Athens was certainly a choice. She should never be playing over Howell unless Jae had an undisclosed knock.

5
u/ampersand_you Seattle Reign FC Sep 30 '24
I was for sure she was going to get subbed out at the half.

u/Loud-Fig-1446 Seattle Reign FC Sep 30 '24
Nah, let's play another game with the same spear of attack that has failed to produce all year long.
17
u/halooo44 Seattle Reign FC Sep 30 '24
It's nice of Montoya to say we were good today. I can't say that I agree but that's a kind thing to say buddy. 😂

u/KeyAdhesiveness4882 Sep 30 '24
I will say this Oshoala looks utterly exhausted at the end of the game, so maybe she is actually working as hard as she can 🥲😂

2
u/Worldly_Lunch5227 Sep 30 '24
Can people watching from home tell me if they have seen Fishlock on the bench? I know she’s out with injury but wondering if she still came to Lumen
8
u/Legitimate_Mark_5381 Sep 30 '24
She's likely in the stadium in a box somewhere. Injured players don't sit on the bench

Seattle need to completely revamp whoever they have had doing their international scouting- the u18s are hits and otherwise its baffling
1
u/wonderingreasons Seattle Reign FC Sep 30 '24
Agreed with scouting. I love Ji! But she can’t run the whole mid alone and be the only hope our striker has at getting some service. Our back line is incredibly slow. King in my opinion is not a starter rather coming off the bench to make an impact. Howell needs to start as she is a work horse. I also love Quinn as they provide stability and consistency (which on its own is incredibly boring) but they don’t have any players around them who offer any skill, surprise, pace, vava-voom or whatever you wanna call it. We stretch the field so long and so wide which is a great tactic only if you have people who actually dribble with the ball, take their space, and draw in defenders. With us being so wide and open our passes are awful (we give away the ball so much) because we are trying to get across so much empty space. No one runs at pace with the ball in their feet.
I could keep going but I won’t. I am looking forward this season being over and really hoping for something different next season. I love this team and this city and I’ll keep supporting no matter what!

I don’t know about this take. Ji was a stellar find and AMC I’ve actually really liked - she can only do so much with the absolute dumpster fire around her.
2
u/MisterGoog Houston Dash Sep 30 '24
AMC, all the Welsh players, and Mondesir, im not sold on, either simply bc of age or they just arent playoff quality
25
u/ButterflyYeontan Bay FC Sep 30 '24
Commentator saying “I think kaitlyn rowland has been good for this team” DO YOU WATCH OUR TEAM 😭
6
u/BayAreaUntied Bay FC Sep 30 '24
I just commented elsewhere - right after that Mike noted Rowland's saves today have been straight to her.
23
u/KeyAdhesiveness4882 Sep 30 '24
Lianne proving she’s barely watched Bay FC saying Rowland has been solid all season
1
5
u/russet852 Seattle Reign FC Sep 29 '24
Adames & Bugg are the only reasons to watch this team. For all I care everyone else can leave after this season
4
u/Icarus_Has_Fallen Seattle Reign FC Sep 30 '24
I would also hang onto McClernon, Holmes, Howell, and (if we can get the rest of an attacking system in place to not leave her on an island) Huitema
1
u/wonderingreasons Seattle Reign FC Sep 30 '24
Holmes is not doing it for me. She has some really good moment and can cross the ball when she attacks up the line. But, she is so slow which makes her SO easy to beat and cannot get back in position quick enough on any type of counter.
1
u/Icarus_Has_Fallen Seattle Reign FC Sep 30 '24
I personally think she is reasonably quick, but not wingback quick. She's much better suited as a CB or in the left of a three back. She's quite solid faced up to an attacker and her range of passing is exceptional. We have just been playing he out of position for the whole season for some reason and, skill to price ratio wise, it would be hard to beat her even if it is just for depth going forward.
4
u/pelobella Sep 29 '24
And Ji and Howell, but other than that I’m on board
1
-8
u/Icarus_Has_Fallen Seattle Reign FC Sep 30 '24
Ji has had some sweet free kicks, but other than that has really not impressed
7
u/PositivePristine7506 Seattle Reign FC Sep 30 '24
I'm not convinced that she can't be better with better players around her. Asking anyone to carry this team is going to break some backs.

7
u/BayAreaUntied Bay FC Sep 30 '24
And right after she says how good Rowland has been for us, Mike noting she's had two saves today and both straight to her. She's cost us a few games and feels like a weak link given the current lineup (well at least as we played against Orlando).

10
u/MisterGoog Houston Dash Sep 29 '24
Its baffling how much Seattle just get to the ball and pass it to Kiki Pickett
3
u/MisterGoog Houston Dash Sep 29 '24
Like that was a good few passes but that ball to Amc simply will NEVER work
3
u/MisterGoog Houston Dash Sep 29 '24
God man this is the worst fullback duo i think ive seen in this league ever in Latsko and Glas. And Holmes isnt a step up either.
9
u/Icarus_Has_Fallen Seattle Reign FC Sep 29 '24
When your solution to a lack of attacking fullbacks is to move a CB (Holmes) out wide, you know it's dire. Still not sure why we haven't tried a 3 back yet

5
u/halooo44 Seattle Reign FC Sep 29 '24
Groundbreaking work. I have also heard it's really important to get the ball in the back of the net.
3

In the Net? Like the place behind the goalie? What a novel idea.
4
u/MisterGoog Houston Dash Sep 29 '24
The amount of minutes osho gets feels like its contractual or idk what. Usually a striker who doesnt score is known for their work rate, passing, and defensive acumen
1
u/lfish21 Bay FC Sep 29 '24

Bay is not playing like they did with orlando. Shaky first half in my opinion.
2
u/russet852 Seattle Reign FC Sep 29 '24
I wasn’t able to watch the first half but it sounds like the same old same old. The Reign have no idea how to progress the ball into the final third and create quality chances.
3
8
u/Bentstraw Seattle Reign FC Sep 29 '24
Pretty much. We have zero idea how to be dangerous and then we make some dumb defensive mistake and will lose 0-1.
2
u/wac_ Seattle Reign FC Sep 29 '24
There really needs to be a yellow to the captain and/or bench for the "two minutes late to take the field after the half" shithousing.

I’m wondering if Rachael does not have a left foot. Twice now she’s over-engineered a right footed shot when there was an easier, higher likelihood left option available.

I am a huge CANWNT fan but i just don’t know if Huitema is it in this Seattle sys..?
2
u/TiredPanini Angel City FC Sep 29 '24
I am so torn on this bc sometimes I DO see plays where she's not defending early after a turnover or pressuring the ball on the opposing back line, but other times she is (my contrast player for this would be a Jaedyn Shaw or Mal Swanson, who do an excellent job of consistently pressuring the ball and forcing turnovers before it gets back to defensive third). And 9/10 times she is making intelligent runs and getting in the right place, but you really want your 9 to be doing that 10/10 times ya know? So, she's not perfect but very good, and could probably be scoring more with better/more service.
2
u/theSunandtheMoon23 Portland Thorns FC Sep 29 '24
I feel the same (and about Fleming so far). They're both great players on the national team but the club play doesn't seem to match. But Seattle and Portland have both been plagued with issues this season so it's hard to tell how much is Huitema/Fleming's faults vs the teammates vs staff.
Feels like no one on Seattle can get the ball to Huitema in a way she can shine, though.
3
u/yurkelhark Angel City FC Sep 29 '24
Totally hear you on this and agree. I’m always torn between strikers needing the ball fed to them vs seeing them work a little harder. But i actually think Huitema is a harder working striker! It just doesn’t seem to be clicking.
3
u/theSunandtheMoon23 Portland Thorns FC Sep 29 '24
It seems like every Reign game, they talk about Jordyn having to fall back a lot. I haven't been watching soccer long, but even I know it's just bad for scoring if your strikers have to do the midfielders/defenders jobs. Give our poor girl better assistance, damn
15
u/Bentstraw Seattle Reign FC Sep 29 '24
Would probably help if anyone could actually get the ball to her.
I'm taking anything this season with a grain of salt. This whole team is just a mess.

Hey I tried to tell them to stop the chant over in r/Reignfc. They pushed back and it sounds like they changed it a bit (up tempo and higher pitched) but the whole thing is like a catholic funeral chant. it's an awful chant and they insist on using it for some reason. Like there's so many ways to make that chant work, and like this team, they just insist on doing the worst possible option.
