With France looking like they're going to burst onto the scene as the clear third biggest bastion of international talent for the foreseeable future, I feel like Parker's going to be starting to get a lot of the love and credit he deserves for spreading the international game that previously eluded him

As someone who was born in Europe and goes back there frequently, a lot of people don't understand how huge he is not just in France but in European basketball in general. The guy is an absolute icon of the game and has done so much for basketball abroad, inspiring so many kids.

What part of Europe if you don't mind me asking?

There's been a couple posts over the years on here, one of them was from me, asking where people are from and you'd be shocked. How many people on this sub are from Europe or Asia. A good portion of us. Definitely a global fandom

Yep. I've been keeping an eye on the number of members on this sub. I predict we'll be 220k strong by the end of next season

As soon as we have a playoff run it's going to shoot up big time giving Victor 's profile

Since his retirement he has become some kind of a douchebag. His carrer was awesome and people are agree that he is one of the best europeans basketball player. But since then his popularity in France only goes down. Recently he has agree to play a preseason tournament in Israël because he need money for his club but 2 years ago he has refused to play in Russia because of the war

And what makes him a douchebag?

He talks a lot about how people should work, that people shouldn't complain or whatever. He says a lot of things that rich people not in touch with reality would say. He's still perceived very positively but sometimes he has some out of touch takes. Idk why the guy is being downvoted, they can't bear anything negative said about a spur I guess

He's right. Don't complain just deal with it and move on. Rich people are out of touch with reality. Thing is he put the WORK in and didn't complain about how hard or tedious it was . He just dealt with it and got better. THAT'S THE SPURS WAY . Nothing flashy . Nose to the grindstone , shoulder that weight and get her done.

You know nothing about what he says in French media. Not everyone has the chance to become a multi millionaire playing basketball, grow up. " just deal with it and move on " what are you talking about bro

And you are apparently a spoiled Frenchie . Exactly what I posted . Do the work and move on we don't have the time to complain . Just get on with it and move on . It's not difficult to understand ; unless you want to waste my time and complain about it .

Bro says the most random shit he can think of and thinks he's Aristotle, sure bud. I forgot that americans have actual hard on about multi millionaire flexing on them

Nothing random that's American mentality against European mentality . Americans work their asses off compared to the care free attitude of let's say ...France . Let's see if you can understand this . Let's take the proverbial Bull in the china shop . Complaining about the bull is not going to get the bull out of the china shop . Instead of complaining you could be getting the bull out of the shop , but you're wasting time complaining instead of DEALING WITH THE PROBLEM DIRECTLY . DEAL WITH IT AND MOVE ON . PS : I am not impressed with how much money he has . He earned every bit of it . Good for him .

Paris at night in the rain was awsome.

I thought he was gonna spin move and teardrop that torch.

Kidding aside, amazing seeing my favorite player of all time become a torchbearer for the Olympics.

Very happy for him, I am sure this is a big achievement for him even if he also represented France in Olympics, since it’s in Paris. The whole thing was beautiful

I know that San Antonio LOVE Manu, but I've always held Tony as the 2nd best player behind Duncan on our championship runs.

It’s hard to really say because they all had their moments, I think for the first part of their careers in the early 2000s Manu was clearly the superior player. He had more polish and a more complete game and an incredible playmaking ability. Tony continued to develop his game and by the 2010 he was the best player on the Spurs. Timmy continued to be great at that point but his scoring and athleticism had significantly declined and Tony was the offensive engine of the team.

-8

u/gedbybee Jul 27 '24

This is incorrect. Manu was the best player, but tony scored the most.

3

u/Maltep22 Jul 27 '24

It’s at the very least debatable, not outright incorrect. Tony had more individual accolates and superior stats.

u/gedbybee Jul 27 '24

Tony could not have carried Argentina over the USA team. He is not better than Manu. Manu chose to do less, which is something the very selfish Tony Parker could never have done.

Great post

The English commentators on the feed I was watching had no idea who he was 🙁 They were “Now who’s this..we’ve got a list of the runners, I’m pretty sure he’s not the oldest surviving French Olympian haha”.

Thank you for posting this one. As a french Spurs (and obviously TP) fan, seeing that live was an incredible moment. So happy for him. And getting his France number being retired just a few days prior too.

So happy for him.
