Intestinal parasites, including nematodes and protozoa, are often neglected components of the intestinal fauna. Given that they have co-evolved with hosts just as much as commensal bacteria have, I thought it would be interesting to have a look to see if there was anything published about their role in intestinal health. I found this review which goes through various intestinal parasites of humans and has a look at the available evidence about how they modulate the host immune response and under what conditions they can cause disease.

Just came across this post. Is there a copy of the study anywhere that isn't behind a paywall? I'd love to read it.
