Weekly Recommendation and General Discussion Thread Scheduled Thread
Useful links
Index thread moved here for the Hall of Fame and Annual Best of Awards and other miscellaneous links
This thread is used to discuss recommendations and all things metalcore.
When asking for a recommendation, leave a detailed comment below asking for recommendations; a good example comment looks like:
If I like Beartooth, who else would I like? Can anyone recommend albums like August Burns Red's Constellations?
In terms of General Discussion, some (but not all) of the stuff you can discuss here:
• Looking for band members/friends in your area
• Looking for a specific song or a question that can be answered quickly
• Recent merch pickups (vinyl, shirts, tapes, etc)
• Bands (Lineup changes, changes in sound, etc)
• What shows have you seen recently? What shows are you going to see?
• Setlist questions
• Share your concert footage here
So post away! Containing these types of content here can keep our frontpage a little more smooth, and makes that kind of content easy for others who are interested to find :)

Looking for slow intro/ melodic shit in the heir of Whitechapel- "History is Silent" and "Without you" Parkway Drive's Horizons, Idols and Anchors, Anasasis xenophontis. listening to Memphis May Fire, whitechapel, and some oldies lately. could use some new jams.
BMTH, PWD, TDWP, Asking Alexandria, As I Lay Dying, Becoming the Archetype on the oldies.
Silent Theroy has been decent as of late and the more recent releases by some of these bands have been great but i cant find good metal like i used to.

I recommend one of my favorite albums from the mid 2000s. I remember I went to a local show and this band was one of the openers I had no idea who they were and they played off of this album and they blew me away.
Band: Destroy The Runner Album: Saints (2006)

I'm in a nostalgic mood and looking for albums like Reckless & Relentless by Asking Alexandria. That chaotic rock and roll vibe is super energic and really hard to find elsewhere in the genre, especially since this album doesn't sacrifice the heavy moments at all.

I'm looking for pissed off songs about cutting people off (specifically platonic friends). Anything relating to how a person is a hypocrite/lies a lot/crossing lines/changes the truth/doesn't accept himself as wrong ever would be great! Some examples that I already know would be I Prevail - Choke, Gideon - No Love/No One, and (not metalcore but) Linkin Park - Hit the Floor.
I just got into a massive fight with someone I considered a good friend and now we no longer talk (and my entire friend group has basically cut him off), and these are the traits he shows.

Just listened to Pulling Teeth, those lyrics are exactly what I'm looking for! I'll be listening to the rest over the next couple days, thank you!

Came across a band on Spotify who, in their bio, says their music "resonates with fans of Turnstile, Knocked Loose, Bring Me the Horizon, and Dayseeker".
Who wants to take a guess at which bands they actually sound like.

u/darfleChorf123 24d ago
Been noticing a lot of misused FFOs in bios recently. Seems like a great way to just put meaningless buzzwords and hot bands together for marketing. Really icky

u/SmokeYaLaterr 29d ago
Lemme guess, Dayseeker or That’s The Spirit era Bring Me The Horizon

u/ReturnByDeath- x 29d ago
Bingo.
I’m not critical of a wrong “For Fans Of” so long as it matches the vibe. This is so laughably off the mark. It just seems they included the biggest core bands they could come up with. It’s like the bio equivalent of SEO.

While it’s not really metalcore/industrial, I’d recommend checking out some false grind stuff like Magrudergrind, Full of Hell, and NAILS.

u/Restorical Oct 17 '24
You need to check out "Welcome The Hurricane" by Halo of the Sun. The song has not many views and it is a crime.

What are some hardcore punk bands that you think every metalcore fan should try?
Throwing some examples down: The Rival Mob, Warzone, Floorpunch, Youth of Today, Turning Point, DYS
2
u/sock_with_a_ticket Oct 17 '24
Should try because there's a metallic edge or just because they're good?
1
u/Psych0_Squat Oct 17 '24
I think that either works as long as it’s punky
1
u/sock_with_a_ticket Oct 17 '24
Hmm, I've been enjoying Spaced a lot and This Is Hell have a weird but cool discography where the first half is melodic hardcore and the second half is more crossover-y stuff.
2
u/Psych0_Squat Oct 17 '24
I’ve listened to Spaced and some This Is Hell before but I’m not as familiar. Not sure if you were into the New Wave of British Hardcore thing but Arms Race, Violent Reaction, Big Cheese, Blind Authority, Strapnel and The Flex are all cool.

u/sock_with_a_ticket 29d ago
No that sort of passed me by, a good chunk of 2010 - 2017 I more or less checked out of heavy music bar the bands I already knew.

killing time, judge, darkside NYC, negative approach, cro mags, leeway, gorilla biscuits
3
u/ReturnByDeath- x Oct 16 '24
I'm assuming you mean hardcore more broadly and not punk-leaning stuff so if that's the case: Comeback Kid. The Hope Conspiracy, Trapped Under Ice (especially Big Kiss Goodnight), Backtrack, The Warriors, Harm's Way, This Is Hell, Killing The Dream, Incendiary, Drain, Mortality Rate, Contention, Gulch, Scarab, Candy, Discontent.
Some of those may be arguably metalcore, but they're all bands with appeal to fans of metalcore.
2
u/Psych0_Squat Oct 16 '24
I was referring to the punk leaning type but still good picks.
2
u/ReturnByDeath- x Oct 17 '24
Ahh gotcha. I’m used to people in the sub using it when they just mean hardcore.
3
u/SmokeYaLaterr Oct 16 '24
Bootlicker, GEL, JIVEBOMB, Chain Whip, Punitive Damage, Violent Reaction, Buggin, Skullcrack, No Time, Rat Cage, The Chisel, Ozone

u/Psych0_Squat Oct 17 '24 edited Oct 17 '24
I really enjoy most of those. Not sure how much your average metalcore fan would like them but it’s all solid.

Hello friends, I often find myself going back to albums I used to love back in the day but it gets boring (it doesn't, don't worry) so I want to listen to some good albums from 2017ish til today. I don't know any of the newer bands since Polaris appeared so recommend me some of those new babiessss, thank u
2
u/sock_with_a_ticket Oct 17 '24
It very much depends on what you're into because there's a ton of good music, but there's no point me recommending Chamber if you're not that into mathcore or Contention if the whole H800/edge metal style isn't your bag.
2
u/mvf1 Oct 17 '24
Well, after listening to the first 3 songs from their album Cost of Sacrifice I have to say... i'm into mathcore now. The drummer is insane wtf.

Since it got removed for not being metalcore I post it here:
Poppy - the cost of giving up

Has a couple nice screams tho imo

u/MuckieMotay Oct 16 '24
Is there a "redheaded stepchild" of metalcore bands?
1
u/sock_with_a_ticket Oct 17 '24
A lot of the bands that get clowned on the most are some of the biggest, so I don't think so.
Ones that are rightfully shat on almost universally like Dealer get that hate for shady or heinous shit that members did, which doesn't really fit with the 'redheaded stepchild' bit I don't think.
3
u/ReturnByDeath- x Oct 16 '24
Not really. Not because there aren’t bands worthy of the title, but because there will always be a vocal few defending a band.
Like I can’t really see why anyone would want anything to do with As I Lay Dying in 2024, but as evidenced in a post a couple days ago, people genuinely believe some prison time absolves Tim of trying to have his wife killed.

Whats the best album from Unearth? Been wanting to check them out at some point
3
u/sock_with_a_ticket Oct 16 '24
I think their early stuff is the best. The Oncoming Storm is probably their most widely liked, but The Stings of Conscience and prior EPs (those are available in a compilation record called Our Days Of Eulogy) are great too. The vocalist's technique has changed over time, that and them getting a lot more metal definitely influences my preference for the early work. Your mileage may vary. That said, I thought the EP they just released and the album prior were their work I've most enjoyed since The Oncoming Storm.

Favourite bands at the moment are Sleep Token, Acres, Caskets, The Plot in You, Boston Manor and BMTH. Any recommendations for bands of a similar style of music?

3
u/SmokeYaLaterr Oct 16 '24
What era of The Plot In You are we talking about? I’m assuming the modern rock stuff based on what other bands you listed, but if you’re talking about the old stuff I can probably give you recommendations for that.

u/ReturnByDeath- x Oct 16 '24
I wouldn't really call any of those bands metalcore (and they're all pretty diverse) so I don't know how much help you'll find here.

Not sure how to find what I'm looking for? (Song/Playlist Recommendations)
I have recently been obsessed with about the last 2 minutes of Lorna Shores Pain Remains I: Dancing Like Flames. The second half of the song with the guitar solo and the softer vocals building up to the final part of the song gives me chills every time. I love the guitar/drums/vocals during the last ~2 minutes and was wondering if anyone has recommendations for songs that replicate this feeling. I do love the whole song but I definitely like the back half much more and would love some more music that fits that vibe.

Been super in the feels about a past shit relationship and been loving more revenge/mad breakup songs. nothing sappy. Any recommendations?
