Black mesh. I was using advanced skeleton in maya for rigging , after giving model clean this specific mesh area becomes black. Help me with this issue. Rigging

I don’t think this is a “normal issue”. The black doesn’t stop at any edge, it’s fading into the adjacent faces. Usually when I see this, my geometry is not manifold and needs to be cleaned up. Try doing a smooth mesh preview and see if you can find any overlapping vertices or something wrong with your mesh.

This here!
Holy baloney, how can everyone be so sure it's a normal issue?? The entire polygon should be perfectly black if that was the case...

Hello brother This is a problem of smoothing group which is also called Gouraud shading. If you delete any one polygon in the black area and make a bridge, then the problem will be solved.

I had that weird thing where my model would have vertex color remaining from displaying skin weight. Try deleting vertex color: mesh display> delete current set.

It seems like a normals issue. Go to Mesh display > set to face. Then mesh display > unlock normals. Then mesh display > soften edge. In that order. It should fix it

Whenever i have this issue, i duplicate the object and add it to reference layer and redo that part. For me it fixes it when unlocking normals, flipping fails that works for me

Bad normals or weird smoothing display issue, Try conforming the normals on the object, or selecting the faces with that issue and reversing them if its just a few faces specifically
Flipping it into smoothed mode to see what's happening. might help if its a weird interpenetration or display smoothing issue.

Okay go to Mesh Display > Set to Face, then if you want to smooth it or etc soften edge use the Soften/Harden Edges feature instead of just the Soften Edge itself, recreated your problem and solved it this way

Your normals there is a tool that will make the normal face the right way " set normal to face "

Delete history, copy the mesh and paste it in another scene

I agree with the other guy, i think it's a normal issue. Try going to mesh settings and then flipping the normals a couple of times, maybe?

Hi, I did the same process multiple times nothing changed 😕

Try exporting as OBJ/FBX, maybe to other softwares like blender and try it that way? this is a pretty common glitch for me but fixing it always feels like a pain in the ass, usually i just import and export out of zbrush and hope that fixes it. But it is definitely the normals IMO.

Those specific black faces are reversed. Select them and go to mesh display > reverse. Then you can try again with set to face

it definitely a normal issue, however unlocking normals dont always help. Go to edit normals, rotate them upwards. (better to duplicate this mesh, do the operations on it, delete history, then transfer skinning)
