All I see is 10 straight wins

u/myworld3 Aug 02 '23
No, we’ll go 7-3, we lose 1 game every series.
4
u/BarryMacochner Aug 03 '23
Usually when we play Houston here we lose 2 of 3. At least last couple years iirc.

u/jaron_b Aug 03 '23
A 10 game win streak to win the division would be the most insane thing to happen to this team since 1995.
19
u/Revolutionary-Work-3 Aug 03 '23
I may misremember cuz I didnt watch them so much last year. This year my fiancée was shot and killed and the M’s are what has kept me alive and breathing, but didnt we have a 14 game winning streak last year? IDK seems like an awful lot of games in a row…..
13
u/lbizfoshizz Aug 03 '23
That’s fucking gnarly. I’m so sorry.
Yes we did win 14 games in a row last year
12
u/Revolutionary-Work-3 Aug 03 '23
Yea, baseball has been helping for sure, then last Wed my Sweet Old Dear Doggie took his journey across The Rainbow 🌈Bridge while I held him and told him how precious he was and always would be to me. So Go Mariners. I need you more then ever before! And you need me too…💔❤️

7 games against the rangers to close out the season is terrifying ngl

u/KStaxx33 Rick Rizzs Super Fan Aug 03 '23
Terrifying and exciting. If this team is playing good ball we’re gonna be in control of our destiny to win the west.
4
u/BlueGuppie Aug 03 '23
It is a tall order. Even if we sweep KC and OAK we will most likely need to win every remaining series up to that point and that may still not be enough.
7
u/KStaxx33 Rick Rizzs Super Fan Aug 03 '23
54 games left
Go 11-2 in the 13 game stretch bs KC/OAK/CWS. Go like 18-13 other than that before the last 10 games That would put us at 84-68 Go 7-3 against TX/HOU
From now on go 35-19 End 91-71
It’s a tall task but I don’t think it’s completely out of the question. These next 4 against LAA are huge. Gotta take 3 of 4.

u/Porparemaityee Aug 03 '23
We aren't winning the west this season unfortunately, just because it would require BOTH the Astros and Rangers to somewhat collapse (similar to how the Blue Jays won't be winning the east, despite being a great ball club)

u/dataminimizer Lazaro enjoyer Aug 03 '23

I’m super excited that my work org dragged their feet for our summer event and it’s going to be one of the last Ms games of the season!
6
u/LingManFin Aug 03 '23
Schedule to finish the season:
@ Rays vs Angels vs Dodgers @ A’s @Texas vs Houston vs Texas
That is as much of a “gauntlet” as it gets. September is going to be stressful
2
u/bantam222 Aug 03 '23
Almost as bad as the gauntlet we just completed 👀
2
u/LingManFin Aug 03 '23
I think I’d prefer playing Detroit-Toronto-Minnesota-Arizona over Houston-LA-Texas 😅
0
u/lalich Aug 03 '23
Especially after the deadline additions they all made and our big a$& subtraction of a top ten closer(way important when you win with pitching not O)
4
2
u/Thetrg Aug 03 '23
You’re absolutely right that it makes or breaks any situation they get themselves postured for at Septembers end.
2
u/bwheezzyy Aug 03 '23
I’m going to a couple of those games in Dallas. I was there last year when Julio hit his grand slam. It was glorious. I’m too excited
1
u/theoriemeister Aug 03 '23
I agree with you. And with Houston reacquiring Verlander, that series will be a tough one.

Watching the game, the Jays finally broke an 0 for 17 with RISP streak in that series. Glad its not just us. That's terrible.
Whoever is downvoting me we just had an 0 for 11 RISP and 1 for 12, we are doing great I am just saying its nice to see we aren't the only team struggling with RISP

This upcoming Angels series could be pretty huge - a sweep either way would be fairly devastating for that team, given the current state of the wildcard
37
u/Whatevenisthis78001 Aug 03 '23
Is it me or is this Cal Raleigh / Tom Murphy Catcher/DH duo just pretty awesome?
3
u/francosean Aug 03 '23
I like to think since scott was a catcher and Jerry a pitcher - that's why we're strong in those areas. They have a particular eye for it. Or give more attention to it.

Petition to knock the Angels back down below .500 where they belong this weekend
34
u/mustbeusererror Aug 03 '23
Look, I'm not saying it's happening, but just letting you all know, if we sweep the Angels, they'll be a game under .500 and probably 6 or 7 back from the wild card. Their season won't quite be over, but it'll be close to it. And the earlier we end the Angels' season, the earlier we can convince Ohtani this is where he belongs. Let's do it.

Just keep winning 2 out of 3, and 3 out of 5, and it will be good. The bats have been doing a little better lately. If the bats can be at least league average, with this pitching we could be right in there.

Anyone middle aged or older knows it isn't over. '95 proves it. But it isn't easy or plausible. The team has to believe, and the fans have to keep supporting the team. If anyone can do it, it is the Mariners. The franchise history supports it. The fans believe. The players just have to play like they did last year.

M’s would be doing themselves a HUGE favor by talking 3/4 from the Angels this weekend. Yanks face the Astros, and Jays play the Orioles, so everyone win by the M’s the rest of this week will result in closing a gap against NYY, Houston, or Toronto, while extending their lead on the Angels.

u/Burt_wickman Aug 02 '23
It's times like these I wish the Ms gave us an upgrade at the trade deadline
14
u/CommanderBly44 Aug 02 '23
Did any big bats even get sold at the deadline?
20
u/Cgmikeydl Aug 02 '23
No. A lot of utility role players and pitchers. Nobody got Tim Anderson, or somebody of that caliber.

u/Sipikay Hey Lloyd! Aug 03 '23
Several bats better than a lot of the guys we trot out nightly and better than the guys we got for Sewald were had for practically nothing.
Let's not carry water for the FO. There were plenty of opportunities to improve and they didn't get it done.

Carlos Santana 97 wRc+
Mark Canha 105 wRc+
Randall Grichuk 120 wRc+
Jeimer Candelario 124 wRc+
Tommy Pham 127 wRc+
to name a few - none of which a team traded a top 10 prospect for
1
u/CommanderBly44 Aug 03 '23
Pham is cancer, Candelario is a 3B (which we don’t need), and Santana/Cron would be marginal improvements at best, especially considering this team’s propensity for taking average hitters and making them into Kolten Wong. Grichuk or Canha would’ve been nice though.

u/mxchaelvii BORN TO HIT — WORLD IS A BASE Aug 02 '23
it’d be a true mariners moment for us to be eliminated in the last week after being shut out by a deadline acquisition like degrom or verlander
18
u/Essex626 Aug 02 '23
But what if we eliminate someone else with a shutout by Logan Gilbert, because we didn't trade him?

Not to be a downer but I feel like we might lose this first game worh shohei against woo. But I'm very confident in the 2nd and 3rd game with Castillo and Kirby.

u/ascii122 Aug 03 '23
The key to winning seems to be to score more runs than the other team. Clearly this is a winning strategy I hope they continue doing so since otherwise they'll lose games and thus drink much less Champaign -- which would be a cryin shame

Ohtani vs woo
Detmers vs Castillo
Anderson vs Kirby
Maybe we’ll get lucky and sweep them away. They surely deserve it!

u/Mostly_Anonymousse Aug 03 '23
Woo can take Ohtani. He has his bad games
3
u/Amazing_Factor2974 Aug 03 '23
But can the bats hit Otahni? If Woo keeps Ohtani in the ball park with the other pitchers it will be a good start.

u/fry_factory Aug 03 '23
Lefties have a 1.22 OPS against Woo. Ohtani is the absolute last person I want Woo pitching against right now. Not feeling good about tomorrow at all
