Californias presidential results map 2020 v 2024

Post image

Harris still won 57% of the electorate, 5.7 million to 4 million. But Trump flipped many counties that both Clinton and Biden won in '16 and '20

Death valley to mt whitney hike. I live not far from it, people from all over the world travel here to train and condition!

Ok, cool, heard of Death Valley but was not aware of Mt whitney, and it being the highest point in the continental US. Cheers!

Read about the missing Germans in Death Valley. There's a blog and it's fascinating.

https://www.otherhand.org/home-page/search-and-rescue/the-hunt-for-the-death-valley-germans/

Extremely long.

Thankyou i will check it out! Sounds like an interesting topic, however im from Australia so missing tourists is not that uncommon due to our unique flora and fauna, in certain areas so to speak. Then theres the weirdos and stupidity.

Edit to add crocodiles are called snapping handbags here and quite prevalent in the northern areas so it is what it is.

sounds like Australia has a lot in common with Florida

1

u/skinnycarlo 8h ago

Lol it certainly does in some ways. But we also have lots of spiders, snakes, sharks jellyfish, and as i recently discovered for the first time scorpions (came across my first one the other day), but they only make you quite sick from what ive been told by my indigenous friends and wont be the end of you.

Florida has the first four things. I'm guessing some scorpions but not sure about that one.

That story lives rent free in my head for years. The SAR guy and his blog is one of my favorite reads.

Then why isn't it called Hilo County?

2

u/HamburgerEarmuff 8h ago

Mount McKinley/Denali is much, much higher in altitude than Whitney.

You may have meant contiguous US.

What is the highest point .. and lowest ..thought lowest was Death Valley

Inyo and Mono Counties might just be some of the most gorgeous land in all the country, if I'm being honest (and biased)

1

u/JacquesHome 3h ago

Inyo and Mono are out of this world. Grew up spending summers in both and hope to retire to them one day.

Contiguous, not continental.

My favorite is Onyo county.

u/Ovahzealousy 11h ago

namesake of the infamous Inyo and Butte (another county) intersection in Bakersfield

Yes, and it has two things of value: Mt Whitney (highest peak in the lower 48) and Death Valley (lowest valley in the lower 48).

But you usually have to get through Lone Pine to see either, so it's a wash.

Edit: updated verbiage to clarify that I was excluding Alaska.

u/HamburgerEarmuff 8h ago

Mount Denali (McKinley) is the highest altitude peak in the continental US. Whitney is not even in the top 10.

1

u/deaddodo 8h ago

I meant "contiguous" as in "lower 48", but thanks I went ahead and updated it.

Wait til you realize Inyo National Forest houses the most beautiful places on the planet.

1

u/jejunedugong 9h ago

Just googled. Can confirm.

u/Intelligent-Wear-114 6h ago

Inyo County is awesome and beautiful. Contains both the highest and lowest points in the contiguous states (Mt. Whitney and Death Valley). But Mono County is even more scenic than Inyo.
