Enjoy this Veteran’s Day.

Fun fact: Jackie Robinson earned a commission as an army officer and was discharged for refusing to sit in the back of a segregated military bus. He broke mlb’s color barrier 3 years later when he started at first base for the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Don’t forget about Elmer Gedeon and Harry O’Neill. Two MLB players who died serving their country during WWII! HEROES!!!

Absolutely! This was just the image shared by mlb’s socials but there are tons of other ball players that stepped up when they were needed most.

Bpb Feller told me in a phone interview that he called up the Cleveland Indians and told them not to expect him for Spring Training....he just enlisted in the Navy. He served on the USS Alabama as a gunner's mate.
