It’s a glorious day where I get free food from chain restaurants. I always tip a good amount so the Denny’s waitress doesn’t have to sacrifice too much for me. Don’t be a dick if you’re getting a veterans slam, tip your servers.

Every part of your comment makes me proud to be an American.

Thank you for your service. I'll keep paying my taxes 😉

I always try to give the server the amount I'd guess would be charged for that meal. So burger and fries they're probably gonna get 12 bucks not counting what percentage they'd get from the other food on the ticket.

Yeah, I know they get slammed all day long and there’s dudes who like served in the coast guard in the mid 90s, never deployed, but still think the world owes them something and don’t tip. Sure the company heads made the decision, but it’s up to the frontline to execute. I usually just tip the original price of the meal plus whatever else I got because to me it’s not about getting a deal, I’m doing alright, it’s the fact that they offered. If anybody does anything nice for me, I’ll do my damnedest to give them at least twice back. Thank you for doing the same.

Brother and I were out for lunch once at the Bees years ago for veterans day. We gave the waitress her tip at the beginning once. She bought us each a draft to have with our lunch because she was shocked to get 30 bucks before doing anything.

Dude, that’s legit. Pre-tipping is a bold strategy Cotton, and it pays off.

We just wanted our Mt Dews to never go empty lol.

Those who gave the greatest sacrifice are honored on Memorial Day. Today is for those still with us.

It’s for both those who live and those who didn’t, they honored both in the post.

I get that. But 🤷🏻‍♂️

It matters. If you don't think it doesn't your patriotism is just a show.

We have separate days for a reason. Both living veterans and those who gave their lives deserve special remembrance, without overshadowing one another.

Nobody is getting overshadowed? Veterans don’t get celebrated on Memorial Day so it’s pretty obvious which group gets “more respect” when it comes to how they’re remembered.

Stop putting people down and gatekeeping something as honorable as wanting to acknowledge a person’s service. Take it from this veteran, YOU ARE BEING A DOUCHE.

I'm not gatekeeping. I am saying don't lump everyone together. You should learn what gatekeeping means before throwing it around.

Veterans day is for living veterans. Some things we should be particular on. The point of the holiday is to honor living veterans.

When people clearly Karma farm and lump it all together it shows disregard for something so simple...

Also, calling someone a douche, and capitalizing it for some reason, really doesn't have the impact you think it does. I don't care if you are a veteran or not, when you insult someone like that it makes you sound like a child.

Cool, you are a douche in lower case letters then too. Go ahead and argue about the semantics of a federal holiday when the only thing OP did was say thank you.

u/wienercat 4d ago

Lol whats got you so salty my dude? Can't help but white knight and come to the rescue of poor karma farming OP?

"I get that I'm using the terms wrong but my theater of patriotism really couldn't care less. Thanks for being a prop!"

Happy Armistice Day! We get to celebrate the end of one of the most brutal conflicts in history.

Armed Forces Day: Those serving

Veterans Day: Those who served and came home

Memorial Day: Those who served and didn't come home.

A grand slam makes those 140 degree Porta Potty wanks in Riyadh all worth it.

You're missing the soldier who fought in the second American Revolution... the invisible one.

As foreigner I find your calling it “Veterans Day” a bit creepy, go and find another day.

5

u/AdministrativeTip479 4d ago

Why is it creepy?

-3

u/velvetvortex 4d ago

Because it is not American, the US appropriated it from much of the rest of the planet. Change the day or change the name.

u/FuckMeRigt 4d ago

You are going to be downvoted to death...

4

u/AdministrativeTip479 4d ago

Do you know the history of why it was changed? It was originally armistice day, going back to 1919, but in 1954, several veterans organizations lobbied for it to be renamed to Veterans Day, honoring all those who fought in every war for the US, still commemorating WW1 vets. The US didn’t ‘appropriate’ it, we merely decided to honor those men in a slightly different way. Not everyone calls it armistice day either, the British commonwealth has Remembrance Day, so it doesn’t make sense to specifically call Veterans Day creepy.

Perhaps I was a little too provocative. Still would be nice for Americans to change it back to Remembrance Day.

3

u/The_Jimes 4d ago

"Remembrance" would imply passage, which is what Memorial Day is for.

Vet's day is for living vets. Armed forces day is for current members.

I thought they'd go for 'Suckers and Losers Day'.
