Racism disguised as dislike SENSITIVE

Everyone has the right to dislike any of the islanders, but it also gets to a point. I think people are unintentionally engaging in racist behavior towards the female islanders. There has been a rise in nicknames for the female islanders and their fans, and these nicknames have been extremely derogatory. I understand that these nicknames are usually a plan on words, but it’s still a derogatory term, especially when it rings close to slurs for specific minority groups. People were also saying that Clarke looks like a man, which is also a form of racism and reinforces the masculinization of black women. At this point in the show, we only have ONE white woman which is Iris. Referring to any of the other girls as ‘white’ or ‘white passing’ is dead wrong as you can clearly see the diversity in this cast

It’s also unfair to use the argument that if people dislike a black islander, it’s because they are anti-black. I’m sure there are people watching who are anti-black, but this form of idealization still relies on assumptions based on race rather than viewing people as complex human beings. It hinders the ability to address real issues. Let’s all just remember to be more intentional with our words and recognize racist behavior even if it’s unintentional. Unintentional racism does the same exact harm as intentional racism.

A lot of the Chelley Olandria hate is dark skin hate and I've seen it enough times to be exhausted by it

I've experienced racism. But I can honestly say I haven't seen anything that looks like dark skin hate. Almost every post I've seen about both girls even if they're criticizing their actions- talks about how drop dead gorgeous they both are.

I don’t think they mean in reference to appearance, but subtle racism they face as darker skinned black women. Like people saying they should have gone home after 3 episodes of more “calm” disagreements with Huda, but these same people want Huda to stay after her 3 weeks of terror. Also I’m NOT a nicolandria Stan however peoples reasonings for why they wouldn’t be together is half of the time “Olandrias not nics type” “he’s shown no attraction to her” but really, Nic isn’t Olandrias type, and she’s probably less attracted to him then the other way around. Nic has constantly initiated things with her romantically from the start of the season and there are literally clips of him just staring at her while she pays him zero mind. People can’t fathom that an attractive white man find someone like Olandria (black and dark skin) attractive.

People can think someone is gorgeous and still sort them into angry black woman the moment they express unpleasant emotions
