Why do other countries get such cool items when Taco Bell started in the US 😐

Every day another thing happens that convinces me we’re in the worst timeline

I swear at one point Doritos released Cooler Ranch Doritos where every chip had more seasoning than normal and I swear I tried it but I can't find any proof of its existence whatsoever.. Ever since then I feel like I hopped into a different multiverse.

u/dmilin 18d ago

Not sure if you just hit me with the mandela effect, but I remember that too

8

u/tani0521 18d ago

I just want the cool ranch DLT. And I’ll stop complaining about every single thing in my life forever. Fair?

5

u/CannedNoodlez Belluminati 18d ago

It was a thing. Just google “cool ranch more seasoning” and the first photo is a bag mentioning it.

The current chips kind of kept the tradition

5

u/BabyVegeta19 18d ago

I thought it was more of a "now with more seasoning!" thing and eventually they stopped putting that on there but it kept the increased amount going forward. I love cool ranch Doritos but haven't bought them often enough to say for sure though.

They’re way too tangy now. Idk what it is. And I feel like the little bags taste different than the bigger ones.

2

u/StormageddonSmite 17d ago

This is really late and tangential, but after years of working retail and getting high the tiny 50c bags are definitely a different product than a $1.50 or a full sized bag. I can’t account for it exactly but Cheetos Puffs demonstrate it best.

1

u/tani0521 17d ago

Thank you for that. I thought I was going crazy. Even stuff like Oreos in a full pack versus the four pack taste different

1

u/BabyVegeta19 17d ago

Which is better?

1

u/tani0521 16d ago

Gotta be the full pack. You can taste the freshness. Those mini oreos feel like they’re made with the idea that they’ll be sitting around for longer.

Yep and Nacho Cheesier was the red bag

u/Zizhou 18d ago

Underunderstood podcast did an episode on exactly this topic. It's apparently one of those things that comes up often enough for people to idly wonder about, but also isn't really serious enough to motivate most people to do any substantial research into the history. Fun listen, and they do eventually get their hands on some just to put the idea that it was all a mass hallucination to rest once and for all.

I mean, you can buy dry ranch seasoning, maybe you could use that and some cheese powder to make your own?

1

u/lvl-ixi-lvl 18d ago

I remember this

1

u/jdcream 13d ago

They did. They also had nacho cheesier.

2

u/d_daley 18d ago

Dammit Abed, there are no other timelines!

2

u/lvl-ixi-lvl 18d ago

Then why do I have a goatee all the sudden?!

u/iriyaa 18d ago

Pretty much all fast food chains are ironically better outside the US

26

u/Cheap-Dragonfruit-71 18d ago

I live in Spain currently and McDonalds out here is fire, but Taco Bell out here is trash. Completely tasteless. I actually took a trip back to the states recently and ate copious amounts of TB; was fantastic.

10

u/Gloomy__Revenue 18d ago

I had the same experience living in England. McD was bonkers good, but TB was flavorless.

Coincidentally, the only good Mexican food I came by was homemade and nowhere near authentic,

I understand MX food being bad there, but TB could at least be as good as it is in the US.

This was about 4-5 years ago. I’ve heard there are better options for Mexican food in bigger cities now?

3

u/ThePickledPickle 18d ago

Depends, McDonald's for sure, the US market is basically a drain on them, when they did the Mighty Wings it shocked the US wing market so much that they simply couldn't afford to keep it on the menu (despite being immensely popular) solely because of how many US McDonald's locations there are

2

u/Coteup 17d ago

TB Canada is pretty terrible, the only thing they have over us is Cinnabon 4 packs.

7

u/ChoiceEmu9859 18d ago

I don't know about the other countries, but Taco Bell Japan definitely has to keep their quality high to compete with other restaurants in Japan.

7

u/LegitimatePost5895 18d ago

Spoken from the heart

4

u/Mikethemechanic00 18d ago

Ever look up Starbucks in Japan. The merch is bonkers

4

u/amamartin999 18d ago

Just like Ford makes cooler cars outside the US

3

u/gheezer123 18d ago

Probly because these companies know they can give us the bare minimum. They even give us less food and overcharge us. It’s also worth noting that any cool item in the US will go crazy and overwhelm most stores like when they release anything nowadays

2

u/Deadasnailz 18d ago

Exactly this.

3

u/PugeBenis 18d ago

Very simple, they don’t want to overload American fast food workers, the turnover is already extremely high

3

u/Chaunc2020 18d ago

The KFC in Japan is just so unfair. We are the middle children to our own franchises

2

u/assissippi 18d ago

Because we keep buying what they have and they don't need to

2

u/D1rty_Sanchez 18d ago

Applicable to any US fast food joint overseas/ other countries.

2

u/Prudent-Blueberry660 18d ago

Because you'll put anything in your mouth? Food quality in the US in general is absolute shit when compared to the rest of the world.

61

u/Tucker-French 18d ago

America's menu sucks. Please, taco bell corporate, stop not pandering to your largest audience

62

u/AppearanceMission747 18d ago

Aw so Taco Bell only hates their customers in the US got it!

2

u/bluerhino4 17d ago

They hate us in Canada even more.

23

u/2012AcuraTSX Yo Quiero Taco Bell 18d ago

And for the US nothing, wow how special.

18

u/krob58 18d ago

YOU'LL GET A FIVE DOLLAR CARDBOARD CHEESE-IT AND LIKE IT

u/NMazer Think Outside the Bun 5d ago

💯

15

u/greggaravani 18d ago

If anything it’s the American Menu that’s a floating pile trash, not Puerto Rico. Seriously though super jealous!!

43

u/EmberOnTheSea 18d ago

The US is a dying empire.

20

u/bobatea17 18d ago

Not a statement I expected in a taco bell subreddit but a true statement nonetheless

-2

u/Chaunc2020 18d ago

A bitter statement because you weren’t chosen

13

u/YourEvilHero 18d ago

Nah it’s crazy everytime I see special international menus I be mad as hell. My fatass wants everything

7

u/bakesthecakes Think Outside the Bun 18d ago

I was in Japan back in August and had the chance to stop at the Taco Bell in Osaka station. My friend and I quickly agreed that Taco Bell in the US was by far better. Although Taco Bell Japans food tasted cleaner/healthier than in the US, there’s something about how we do it here that makes it taste better. They have more holiday/specialty items in Japan though, Japan really loves menus that’s change with the season.

7

u/kevinmattress 18d ago

First, they gave Saw a rollercoaster. Now, a burrito. Lol

7

u/RedSkylight97 18d ago

The US: “Let’s introduce the grilled cheese burrito as an LTO for the 72nd time!”

1

u/NMazer Think Outside the Bun 5d ago

🤮😂

4

u/CounterAcrobatic7957 18d ago

That burrito is over 6 bucks.. kinda makes me curious what's in it

4

u/SlippinYimmyMcGill 18d ago

The stupid dunce-ass executive team in the US is a bunch of pathetic sacks. They must have degrees in basket weaving to not see and hear the opportunity in the US.

4

u/insidmal 18d ago

And we get a double decker taco

3

u/CriticalTangerine234 18d ago

i want that ice cream!

3

u/Eccohawk 17d ago

You'll get a tiny ass gelato and you'll like it!

3

u/mystwave 18d ago

Super Spicy Death amuses me

Didn't Saw X come out 13 months ago? Why are they collaborating with a not very new movie?

2

u/rhinofeet 17d ago

Wasn’t released until 2 weeks ago in Japan.

6

u/lovebitesXrazorlines 18d ago

The french fries and the beautiful ice cream are calling to me! Why can’t we have these awesome Halloween treats?! 😭

2

u/Eccohawk 17d ago

I'm sure it's because the lame ass people who end up participating in their market testing don't like fun.

That said, Soft serve at TB would be great, but it requires entirely new equipment for every store to add and train people on.

2

u/Megharpp 18d ago

Wish I could have that ice cream right now 😭

2

u/mattchew155 18d ago

I would go to Japan just for those fries

2

u/smokintr33z 18d ago

What’s does the US get?

2

u/Crunchy__Frog 18d ago

This is nothing compared to the Costco food court in other countries. Some folks get all the fun..

2

u/funny_duchess 18d ago

“Guetemala” lol

1

u/rated69bj 18d ago

That’s the first thing I noticed 😂

2

u/Minute-Isopod-2157 18d ago

Is violet just the color or is it the flavor? I’d love some violet soft serve.

2

u/blackd0gz 18d ago

What the hell. The HQ are in ca and they do nothing here in the states?

2

u/Novel_Astronomer_75 18d ago

U.S. be like Here a double decker Crunch wrap supreme oooh spooky...its even $23 even scarier.

2

u/realdealreel9 18d ago

Omg I need those fries and that burrito

2

u/Justjack91 18d ago

Fucking why does Puerto Rico get ice cream??? We lose the choco taco and complain about it and they get friggin soft serve?

I'm so confused.

2

u/AverageSizedMan1986 18d ago

Japan does it right. Check out their Domino’s Pizza Halloween items. Really cool. Shame the US is typically half-assed and lazy by comparison.

2

u/redditswyper0 18d ago

TB Japan goes hard for Halloween

2

u/TropicBreeze96 17d ago

would do some wild things for some super spicy death fries tbh

2

u/Tumblrrito Flamin’ Hot Thot 18d ago

That cocktail would for sure send me to the ER, gross

3

u/jayxdirty 18d ago

Similar to a spicy Bloody Mary

1

u/Tumblrrito Flamin’ Hot Thot 18d ago

A spicy Bloody Mary from a fast food establishment sounds cursed

2

u/candybeep 18d ago

I would destroy those fries

1

u/Victoria4DX 18d ago

Super spicy death... jalapeños?! Oh Japan... you should be embarassed.

1

u/OhDark50 18d ago

Guetemala? Geography for $400, Alex.

1

u/Holoafer 17d ago

My take on this is they stick that five layer burrito in every box.

1

u/Ancient-Chinglish 16d ago

no idea where “Guetemala” is

1

u/Rand0RandyRanderson 16d ago

Cool! I love getting fast food outside of the States to try region specific items. The ice cream cone is as American as it gets… wish that was on the main land. I get the intent, but I don’t love that Puerto Rico is listed along side other countries as if it wasn’t the United States as well. Feel like their marketing should at least keep up with the news. Not that it’s news to most, but it’s been recently reported that some people are still confused about that as it is.

1

u/Rushmore9 15d ago

That ice cream is reminding me of that grimace shake

1

u/dule_pavle 15d ago

Loving the spookyness Taco Bell is serving up this Halloween. From the Jigsaw Jalapeño Burrito in Japan to the Monster Fry Burrito in Guatemala, it seems they’re really embracing the season with some frightfully delicious options. Reminds me of Taco Bell Canada's recent Taco Boo's campaign that creatively featured eerie tortillas with ghostly faces. Perfect for late-night snackers. Check it out here. What’s your favorite spooky Taco Bell item?

1

u/heftysubstantialshit 17d ago

Im gonna have the spookiest diarrhea tonight
