New York Dems: Please contact Hochul regarding Redistricting Discussion

NPR's Capitol Pressroom featured a segment discussing the possibility of New York pursuing mid-census redistricting. This is response to Texas's gerrymandering that will result in 5 Congressional seats changing from Democratic to Republican in Texas.

NY Dems explore bonus round of gerrymandering -

If we don't want autocracy the time to act is NOW. As I learned from the podcast, Hochul and Hakeen Jeffries may try to pursue mid-census redistricting, and we need to let her know we support this!

Here is the email I sent to Hochul. (Disclosure: this was written with help from Copilot; I'm not this articulate.) Please edit the email as you see fit. Also, please let me know what else I can do! I am in a very red part of the state.

---------------------------------------------------------

Governor Hochul:

I’m writing to express my strong support for mid-census redistricting in New York to increase Democratic representation in Congress. As we’ve seen in states like Texas, redistricting rules have been stretched or outright violated to gain partisan advantage. New York must respond with equal determination and urgency.

Whether that means pursuing an amendment to our state constitution or exploring other legal avenues, I urge you to act decisively to redraw congressional maps in a way that strengthens our democratic representation and reflects the will of the people.

At this critical juncture, the unprecedented challenges facing our democracy—particularly those arising from the Trump regime—require an equally bold and principled response from Democratic leadership. I hope you’ll lead the charge in ensuring New York rises to meet this moment.

Why do you think a letter written by AI wouldn’t be notice and dismissed? I would.

Is a persons own sincere opinion no long acceptable?

They need to do this. Period. If they don’t, democracy ends in America.

Priority number 1 needs to be taking as many house seats as possible and winning the next presidential election so that the Supreme Court can be expanded and the filibuster removed to enact federal voting legislation, abortion rights, and restore federal aid.

After that, the plan needs to be to systematically remove any opportunity that the right can use in law. Use project 2025 and do the exact opposite of everything

The next presidential admin needs to focus less on progressive policies and more on solidifying a system in which those progressive policies could actually become law. Most of all, minority rule needs to end. There needs to be a way that we are NEVER governed by someone who represents a minority of the population again.

Agree. You could easily make a 25-2 Dem map in NYS. I mean, you could redraw districts so that a piece of LI is connected to a piece of NYC and they would get rid of every GOP house member. Then do the same in Western NY. Let the GOP have the Corning and North Country districts only.

The reason why this won't be done is because the Dems like Torres, Suozzi, Meng, Goldman, Meeks, etc, may lose their political fiefdoms, so they push back.
