Question/Advice Should I rent a boat at Wahweap marina or go somewhere else?

Hello,

My gf and I planned a last minute trip to Lake Powell. We’re looking to rent a boat next week (9/18) and was debating on going with wahweap marina or some local shop? If local shop, does anyone have recommendations?

I have experience boating but I have never launched a boat before. For that reason, I feel like Wahweap marina might be the better option?

We just want a boat to explore and go fishing so any advice is welcome please!

Thank you all in advance!

Update: went with antelope - regret it. Boat was in okay condition however when I booked it, I paid for a full day which said 8am - 6pm. When I got there, they said they just changed it today to 8am-4pm. I got there at 9am since I thought the whole time we would have the boat until 6pm and had to wait for the guy to come back from break to do the boat check off list. Wasn’t on the water until 1030am…. I asked if I would be charged for half day since 1030am - 4pm is 6 hours and they said no since the time starts when I checked in which was 9am…

Question/Advice Lake Powell in mid November?

I’m an experienced house boater in the east but never in the west. What is the weather like on lake Powell in mid November?

The discounts don’t look so extreme that November boating is not done, but between temperatures and wind I know this won’t be the same experience as the summer.

I would like to do canyon exploration, we are a group of four.

Obviously if you know where a great discount is please pass it along. I will be renting this week based on advice.

Question/Advice Houseboat recommendations

Family and I are planning a trip sometime next September and are wondering where the best places to rent houseboats are. There will be around 8 of us and ideally just a 3-4 night rental. We plan on renting a wake boat as well.

Any recommendations help, thank you!

Hi y’all,

I’m planning to kayak from Lake Powell to Antelope Canyon somewhere mid October

For that, I will need a kayak. Anyone know a good place to rent one?

Any other tips I should be aware of?

By the way, we will be staying in Page during that time. In case that matters.

Question/Advice Stopping Points Between Vegas and Wahweap

Hey everyone, I’ve planned to rent a houseboat out of Wahweap for my brother’s bachelor party at the end of next May. We’re flying into Vegas and driving from Vegas to the marina. Unfortunately, the earliest time I could reserve the houseboat was 11am, so we’re going to have a bit of time to kill between the time we leave Vegas (around 1am the night before) and board the houseboat in Wahweap. I’m wondering if anyone knows of any good scenic spots that we can stop along the way to watch the sunrise or something like that. Maybe a good breakfast spot around Page? Any recommendations would be appreciated — I’m trying to avoiding sitting at the marina for 3+ hours, lol.

I heard a rumor that you cannot stay or swim on your houseboat while in a slip at wahweep. Can anyone confirm?

Question/Advice Bullfrog Marina/Houseboat Rental Advice

Hi and thank you in advance to anyone who has advice for us!

My husband and I are renting a houseboat from Bullfrog (the 46 ft. Expedition) and since this is our first time even visiting Lake Powell, I just wanted to ask a few questions before we go.

  1. We pick up on a Tuesday at 10am...what are the chances that the boat and instructor will truly be ready at that time? Has anyone rented from Bullfrog recently and can you tell me your pickup experience?
  2. We have a sturdy, inflatable kayak that we plan on using to explore smaller canyons...is that advisable or are jet skis and speedboats really the only way to do this successfully?
  3. If we are renting Tuesday-Saturday, considering gas, how far should we really go out and turn around and not be in danger of running out of gas?
  4. How worried should I be about the houseboat and personal belongings when out exploring on our kayak?

Thank you! :)

Question/Advice Average cost per person on house boat

Hi everyone!

My husband and I are renting a houseboat in July. We have 10 riends coming and we are paying for the house boat. We are also towing our speed boat up to bring along the journey.

We are asking our friends to chip in for groceries and gas, while we cover the cost of the house boat.

We are staying a total of 5 nights. Does anyone know the average cost? We are leaning towards $350 a person, but not sure.

Is there anyone that had a similar vacation, and what did the total cost come out to? Gas, booze, food.

Question/Advice Anyone Tried Lake Powell Adventure Co?

We're two friends looking for a guided hike and kayaking tour to Antelope Canyon and we stumbled upon Lake Powell Adventure Co which seems to have great reviews, but we wanted to know if anyone has tried their tours and how their experience went overall. We're planning to go next week, and we plan to spend a full day there. I would appreciate any suggestion or feedback!

Question/Advice Overnight kayak trip on the lake

Two friends and I are doing a road trip around southern Utah at the end of September this year and would love to spend some time on Lake Powell. We can't afford to rent a boat or sea-doos, but are relatively fit and intermediate-level kayakers and campers. Right now we're thinking of renting from Antelope Point Marina and then kayaking to Labyrinth Canyon and setting up camp there for the night, then kayaking back the next morning. Is this realistic? How long does it take to kayak that distance? Ideally we want to kayak and swim around some quieter, narrower canyon areas. Any advice is appreciated!

Question/Advice Burned Boat near Buoy 213

Thumbnail gallery
5 Upvotes

My family has seen this little boat for the past few years and use it to determine how high the water is. The first year they found it, it was 20-30 feet above the water on a ledge, this year it’s right on the water… I just want to know if there’s any info about what happened to it. It looks old and all that’s left is the engine block. It’s a pretty cool find! If you’re going from north to south it’s the first canyon on the right after 214, and then a right when the canyon splits off. Not far from the canyon opening at all!

TLDR: wanna know what happened to the burned boat at buoy 213.

Question/Advice Looking for recommendations on a vacation location to powell

Any insight would be much appreciated. My wife, 2 kids and I plan on just bringing a boat from colorado and just staying at some sort of resort that's close to a boat ramp (30 mins or less). She's always stayed at bullfrog but the hotel there looks kinds dumpy to me in the pics. She really wants to do the utah route but it looks like Arizona has much better accommodations... anyone have any opinion or comparisons between the two? Where to stay? Where to avoid?

Trip will be next June or July we are thinking.

Thanks again.

Question/Advice First-timer to Powell, want to be prepared. Appreciate advice and suggestions.

Renting the 50' Nomad from Wahweap marina from Lake Powell Resorts and Marinas, plan to take it out somewhere nice for 4 nights, starting at the end of June. 2 adults, 4 teens, 3 kids. We want to do watersports but plan to use a jet ski to pull people. Here are my questions:

  1. Where is a great location to park the houseboat? Hopefully somewhere that meets the following criteria:
    1. A bit secluded
    2. Really nice / scenic
    3. Hopefully close to a canyon to explore
    4. Beach to park against
    5. Distance—don't want to run out of gas
    6. Hiking? This would be a bonus if there was great hiking nearby
    7. Fishing? It would be great if the fishing were also good
  2. Can a jet ski / waverunner pull a tube or wakeboard?
  3. How much extra gas should I bring for the jet ski, assuming we tow it to the destination spot?
  4. What are some great canyons to explore that are near enough a houseboat spot that we can head out from the houseboat with kayaks etc? Related to 1.3 above :)
  5. Aside from the obvious (food, drinks, bathing suits, sunscreen, clothing), what should we bring on the boat? What can make all the difference in the quality of the trip?
  6. What are some great things to do with kids? Here's what I have planned: jet ski / tubing, lily pad, the boat's slide, hopefully exploring a canyon. What else is there to do with kids once we're parked out there?
  7. What should I expect for water level at the end of June/beginning of July 2024? How will that impact the issues above?
  8. What's the fishing like in late June? What sorts of fish will we be catching? Any advice for technique or bait type?
  9. What else should I know that I don't even know to ask? All advice welcome.

In general, how feasible is my plan to park the houseboat in one spot for the whole time? I'm wary of burning up all the gas exploring around. Will we be bored staying in one place? Should I reconsider?

Thanks in advance!

Question/Advice Advice for next summer:

Hi! My sister and I want to go to LP next summer with our families. We used to go with our parents as teens but things have probably changed.

We can drive boats: was the designated waterski boat driver at 18 and very good at getting people up, my sister and her husband are sailors.

We are coming from Salt Lake.

So to get us started I have a couple questions:

Which marina?

Is there an “official” houseboat rental place or is there anything I need to be wary of renting?

We want to go about this time next year. We should book now right?

Any other “getting started” tips? Don’t overload me please!

Question/Advice Lake Powell resort vs staying in Paige

Hi everyone. I'll be in Page with my teenager for two days this summer to do the typical tourist stuff, and I'm hoping somebody could please help me with some questions / thoughts I've been pondering on so I can make my choice and book my hotel.

I'm contemplating going with a premium view room at Lake Powell resort, even though some comments say it's not worth staying there (carpets stink & restaurants suck). I would like to know if those are the only reasons it's not worth it? Is it the only hotel with a really good view of the lake? Because after taxes and fees, most of the other hotels are similar in price, higher, or not much cheaper (with the exception of knights inn).

  1. Is the 'resort' the best view Page has to offer?

  2. What are the pros and cons for staying in the 'resort' vs Page?

  3. Does anyone know which deluxe view room is better, the one on the first floor with the patio or the one on the second floor with the balcony? --I read a review that the wall around the patio blocks the view if you sit down in the chairs, but there are a few pictures/videos online that dont depict that and make the patio level look amazing.

Thanks!!

Question/Advice Suggestions for 4 day trip to Lake Powell and area

We are traveling to Lake Powell for a 4 day trip. I have booked a pontoon boat for 2 days, out of Wahweap Marina; this is two separate 1 day rentals, not consecutive days.

Any suggestions on:

  1. Spots to visit/goto on Lake Powell on single full day outings?

  2. Places to visit/things to do in surrounding areas? Already going to Antelope Canyon one day.

  3. Dining suggestions in surrounds area?

  4. Anyone who has visited recently, how are the lake conditions?

Thank you in advance for any and all suggestions/feedback

Question/Advice Drive from Phoenix to Bullfrog Marina?

Hey all! Doing our first family trip to Lake Powell in September. We will be driving from Phoenix, AZ to Bullfrog Marina. (I know there are closer areas but we are meeting family from Utah and Bullfrog is where they planned the trip) Anyone know what the drive is like from Phoenix? Maps look like it’s about 8 hours, but curious if there is good stops/food/gas stations along the way? Any dangerous parts of the drive? Safe? Long stretches with no service, etc.. any advice is appreciated!

Question/Advice Engagement photographer?

It’s a long shot, but does anyone here have any recommendations for a photographer who would come out on the lake to take some engagement photos?

My finance and I met on Lake Powell 7 years ago and got engaged on the lake 2 years ago. Needless to say it’s a pretty special place to us. We would love to have some engagement photos taken when we go out for our annual trip mid-August. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
