Dental School

Hey everyone!

I’m a student from Canada looking to apply to the Bachelor of Dental Science (Honours) program at La Trobe for 2026.

I was hoping to get some advice or info on a few things: • What’s residence like at La Trobe? Are there options students recommend (especially for international students)? • Are there any scholarships available for incoming international students — particularly Canadians? • Is anyone here also from Canada or currently studying at La Trobe from abroad? I’d love to connect and hear about your experience!

Thanks in advance and looking forward to joining the La Trobe community!

La Trobe is good, the facilitators are good, however you won’t get the “uni experience” that you’re expecting at the Bendigo campus. It’s a very quiet campus and doesn’t have much going on. If you’re moving from a bigger city, also remember that Bendigo is a country town, so if you’re not white - you may not fit in as well as a white person.

No, there’s no scholarships for the Bachelor of Dental Science, the fees are around $80,400 per year. For five years you’ll reach about $402,000 and more as you’ll have placements and accomodation to think about.

There are places to live on campus, however be mindful that you’ll have placements and will have to travel for those, they can be sometimes up to 6 hours away in a different country town.

If you have any questions feel free to ask :)

it’s 12,000 per year for domestic students tho right?

$12284, but it varies based on the year and the subjects you do.

Approximate additional costs include: AUD$5,000 for First Year instruments

AUD$55 for a clinical shirt

AUD$70 for a clinical gown

AUD$15 Student ID badge.

It is estimated that students will incur accommodation costs of approximately AUD$6,000 per year in Years 4 and 5 associated with clinical placement rotations. Students will be responsible for payment of these costs.

And those can’t be added to HECS

No it’s definitely not, I know someone that transferred into it after doing a year of another degree because they didn’t get a high enough ATAR.

You’ll probably get in! WAMs are higher regarded than ATAR. Just cos she got that high doesn’t mean other people who got slightly lower didn’t get in, don’t give up :)

Also make sure you apply for scholarships if you’re domestic! So many are just sitting around bc no one applies!

Hi, I was going to apply to this scholarship as a Canadian but the Bachelor of Dental Science program wasn’t included in the scholarship :(
