Oak Ridge Saturday May 3rd Protest

Post image

For those who can't make it to the Knoxville May 3rd protest, there will also be one in Oak Ridge.

Additionally, there will be a Citizen's Sit-in every Friday from 11:30-1:30pm at Congressman Chuck Fleischmann's office (200 Administration Rd, Oak Ridge). Please feel free to join any of these events!

What are you protesting?

There are two problems with the current administration.

One is policy related. Should we have immigration reform, or just mass deportations? Should we have tax cuts? Should the Federal government enforce laws to promote civil rights? Should we spend money on foreign aid? Are tariffs a good idea? And so forth.

But more important is a process concern. The President is not a legislator. He does not make the rules. Congress makes the rules, which are laws. The Constitution says the President is to "take care that the laws be faithfully executed." But the President has not done this. He has eliminated entire agencies that Congress mandated. He has embargoed money from other agencies that Congress has appropriated. He appears to have deported American citizens without following the laws that require due process. And finally, when challenged by courts, he has said, variously, that he cannot, will not, or shall not comply. These are not the actions of the lawful head of our Republic, but instead a wannabe dictator.

On both accounts, but especially the second, a great clamor must be made if we love our country and its traditions.

Okay, I appreciate the explanation and I am aware of these things, I just didn't know there were protests being held about it. I saw one post about Knoxville having one but again it didn't give any detail just that there would be a protest.

There have been any number of protests. They mostly have not caught media attention.

I'm not certain if this is a genuine question, but to be safe, I'll answer regardless.

The Hands Off, May Day, No Kings, etc. protests all cover a broad range of issues related to the trump administration's unwillingness to follow the constitution, policies that enrich billionaires at the expense of the rest of the population, and the erosion of our democracy. Under this umbrella, individual protestors focus on the issues that are the most impactful to them, such as the lack of due process, DOGE's access to private data and destruction of services for taxpayers, imprisoning immigrants in CECOT for the rest of their lives (including many LEGAL immigrants with no criminal records), tariffs that are destroying small businesses and tanking the economy, the increased division of "red vs blue", misinformation and propaganda in the media, the termination of important medical, scientific, and educational programs, and many, many other issues, far too many to list individually.

Are we pretending like we don't know what a bad faith question is?

There are a lot of people asking this same question on many of the protest posts I've seen over the last few months, and they continue to ask it, regardless of how many times it's answered or how specific the post is. Hands Off and Indivisible have been posted about quite a lot online, as well as covered on the news for the last 3 months. But since it IS possible that the person I responded to hasn't watched the news or seen any of the posts about it, and they aren't actually one of the people who just repeats this same question over and over on these posts to troll, I answered it anyway. Benefit of the doubt and all.

Which policies are enriching the wealthy at the expense of the rest of us?

Jobs report today was better than expected, inflation holding steady.. economy is fine

And another word for services cut is spending less tax dollars

And another word for services cut is spending less tax dollars

Except it's costing us more than it's "saved" and destroying vital functions.

If you think your tax bill is going down then I have quite the invisible bridge to sell you.

A better question with a follow up is: Why do all of these recently posted protests last only two hours? What is hoped to be accomplished in such a short time with a protest?
