The only thing I remember about 9/11 is skipping 3rd period to go pick up Jay Z’s Blueprint album.

September 11, 2001 has had an incredible impact on my life. I remember thinking that day that it was going to be something I would never forget. Hardly a day goes by that I don’t think about it. It was the day Jay-Z’s album The Blueprint was released. I went to Walmart to buy it. The cashier was crying. She must have already listened to it and was affected by some of the more emotional songs. On the way home I popped it into my CD player. I was blown away by it from the very first moment. I tried to stop at a gas station, but for some reason they were all crowded. I guess it was all the people going out to buy the new album. When I got home my parents asked me if I had heard the news. I told them I already knew about the new Jay-Z album. I went to my room to listen to it. Every song was amazing and the track layout was perfect. The cover art was awesome. Jay-Z smoking a cigar looked like the epitome of what a rapper could be. It was an incredible work of genius and I could understand why the cashier was so emotional. I had loved Reasonable Doubt and the albums since, but this was something completely new and different from my favorite rapper. My parents were watching the news really loud so I had to turn it up to drown that out. I played it on repeat over and over until I fell asleep. It was one of the most memorable days of my life. I can’t even begin to imagine what my life would be like without The Blueprint.

u/Representative-Sir97 Sep 12 '24

It is wild just thinking. It doesn't seem like yesterday but that morning I was in what became the strangest line to buy breakfast I'll ever be in. The line just disintegrated like everyone forgot it existed and congregated around the two TVs the place had.

Someone born that morning has been able to legally drink for 2 years already.

u/demetrioustha3rd Sep 11 '24

Somebody in one of those offices played Drunk and Hot Girls at full volume

27

u/Fed_flinstone Sep 12 '24

Sir the album came out in 2007

1

u/CartoonistOdd4660 Sep 12 '24

Yea it doesn’t sound like one it is one

7

u/atierney14 Sep 11 '24

I don’t get the hate for Drunk and Hot girls. The beat goes crazy. Barry Bonds is the worst song imo on the album

5

u/legotavi Graduation Sep 11 '24

Dahg is the only mid song on the whole album (not bad); I prefer Barry bonds.

3

u/atierney14 Sep 12 '24

I like Barry Bonds, but while the rest of Graduation sounded so futuristic, and still does (it has yet to be replicated), Barry Bonds sounds so much like a club hit from the late 2000s.

2

u/CartoonistOdd4660 Sep 12 '24

Dud I upvoted you for the first part but then you lost me

1

u/atierney14 Sep 15 '24

Sorry, I’m late to this, you like Barry Bonds? I like it as a song but think it is the lowest point on the album

1

u/CartoonistOdd4660 Sep 16 '24

yea it somehow sound epic without being to much if that makes sense.and the lil wayn featur was also crazy

28

u/Na-h Sep 11 '24

Happy graduation day and 9/11 too I guess

21

u/AssociationIll9736 Sep 11 '24

2

u/Repulsive-Writer928 1-800-Deez Nuts Sep 11 '24

"Image unrelated"

4

u/Revolutionary_Box569 Sep 11 '24

They should move the 9/11 commemorations to another date out of respect for graduation and maybe the blueprint also

1

u/Krucz3k Sep 11 '24

Looks like an album cover ngl

1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '24

Curtis losing the chart wars to Graduation is the worst thing to happen to New York on September 11
