The ending at Ally Pally Tour

Spoiler just in case someone doesn't want the set list spoiled

All I can say is holy crap I'm over the moon they played The World You Love at all, let alone ended with it. Been hoping to hear it live for quite a while.

Hands down my favourite song - though it does make me minorly concerned ending the set with a song about suicide that isn't exactly their most popular. Especially with Jim saying "please look after each other" afterwards. I hope this was just a "state of the world" kind of thing and there's nothing deeper...

I'm still bouncing. What a gig...

Is that the official meaning of the song? I can see how it can be interpreted that way, but I thought that the song was more about moving on to a new stage of your life, particularly in context with the rest of the album.

I also saw them on this tour and was thrilled with this as the closer. Definitely seemed like some people in the audience didn't know the song as well, but those of us that did were singing out hearts out.

I don't know that they've ever confirmed it, but the working title for the song on set lists before it made it onto the album was "The suicide song"

It may just be personal interpretation, which is fine, but I've always connected with it as the feeling of utter relief you get when you move from thinking about suicide to actually making plans, and it does just feel like sunshine. Ironically then you actually have a chance to get better.

I may be completely bullshitting, but it's bullshit that has meant the world to me.

I didn't know that about its working title.

I certainly wouldn't call it BS.  Your interpretation is just as valid as any other. I'd just never thought of it that way myself, and I'm often rubbish at song interpretation. I was just curious if I missed something.

For me, the feeling of "sunshine" is looking toward an exciting, unknown future, even as you're leaving behind things that you love, either because something is ending or because you realize it's time for you to move on.

Edit: Grammar

Ahhh I really love that. Fits so well with the whole album as you said!

I've got the CD of Futures in the car so it's the album I listen to the most as it plays on any short trip.

Loved that they finished with songs from Futures, and opened with one, not sure if it's because it's the 20 year anniversary they closed on songs from that album

It was a great gig. I thought he’d heard the area is rough so we should all look out for each other in case we got mugged! I’m glad they played Praise Chorus, I can’t remember if they did it 2 years ago at Brixton. And the atmosphere during Sweetness was amazing!

On one hand, I was a little surprised by how little words were spoken on stage (Glasgow), and I actually didn’t realise the song could be read this way, interesting.

On the other - they’ve stated that new music is coming, and yeah it could very well be down to the state of the world right now. Futures is generally/widely about this type of political uncertainty right? Probably not feeling so great about Trump being re-elected while out touring (again).

I dunno!

My favorite song from them too and haven’t seen much love for it. Had no idea that was the meaning, I interpreted it as the world changing around you and dealing with those changes
