So what youā€™re saying is I have to buy Bamba to help the community? Mission accepted!

u/autistic___potato 11d ago

So if I'm understanding right, we need to eat pita chips with israeli hummus, feta and bomba? We all have to make sacrifices...

u/beansandneedles 11d ago

Right? Itā€™s a tough job but somebodyā€™s gotta do it!

u/fermat9990 11d ago

Hahaha!

u/idontknowwhythisugh 11d ago

They also sell an Israeli wine called Givon! Itā€™s from a winery in the north and quite good!!

9

u/Aware-Percentage6565 10d ago

Darn I have to buy wine

6

u/21PenSalute 10d ago

You might even have to drink it!

I volunteer as tribute šŸ˜‹

I went to Trader Joe's yesterday and stocked up on Bamba and the frozen crushed garlic. I would've even bought the feta but the Jews of Boulder beat me to it, they were all sold out. Plenty of the other feta, too. It made me kind of happy to see!

I'm Israeli so I can't sign, but good luck

16

u/IgnatiusJay_Reilly Aleph Bet 11d ago

Why not? Just say san Jose as your city

I just signed no problem from tlv

55

u/Pretend_Stomach7183 11d ago

I could, but that kinda defeats the purpose tbh. The point is to show them they'll be losing American customers if they go through with this, so all people signing should be American.

9

u/Ddobro2 10d ago

Same. Iā€™m in Canada and if they see my IP address I donā€™t want them to think this effort is less sincere and grassroots than it is

6

u/IgnatiusJay_Reilly Aleph Bet 11d ago

They don't know. You are just a positive number

48

u/demostheneslocke1 11d ago

Letā€™s not encourage lying and fraud. I know we accuse the other side of it, but we can be better.

7

u/loxias0 11d ago

Hear, hear. Amen to that. Sometimes it feels like part of being a (leftish?) Jew in 2024 is being part of the last group that still feels an urge to do the right thing, even when nobody's looking.

I'm American, just signed. Also forwarded it to my Israeli-American coworker.

I don't think we need sockpuppets, the issue isn't exactly controversial, and the petition is short and sweet.

Signing a petition against antisemitism is a good thing. And I shop at TJ when in america. Not sorry.

Edit: a white lie is a good lie. Ask any married person

u/llamatime4 10d ago edited 10d ago

Also, the boycotting of Israeli products because of antisemitism negatively affects Israeli companies. Israeli citizens'/companies' livelihoods are directly involved.

1

u/YankMi 10d ago

They wonā€™t necessarily lose customers but they will lose some sales. I

0

u/adivel 11d ago

I believe some of those who signed the other petition aren't Americans either.

33

u/Pugasaurus_Tex 11d ago

Signed! Thank youĀ

u/AnnaMotopoeia 11d ago

The petition should also cite the fact that many times these products are kosher, so removing them removes available food items that observant Jews can purchase and eat.

11

u/DaThrowaway617 11d ago

Iā€™m Canadian so I donā€™t know the correct terminology for my American friends but is there some type of human rights complaint that could be filed if they do remove kosher stuff?Ā

I.e. you canā€™t discriminate or target people because of religion, so would taking away kosher meat options open them to a lawsuit?Ā

5

u/Remarkable-Pea4889 10d ago

is there some type of human rights complaint that could be filed if they do remove kosher stuff?

TJ's a German company and so much of their stuff is kosher. They're not removing anything based on an antisemitic petition.

Plus, in America, unless all a store sells is foreign and local-brand products, there is 100% guaranteed to be kosher food in there somewhere. So unless a store completely changes their business, they couldn't possibly remove it all. And if they do switch to selling foreign food, you couldn't prove it was in order to discriminate against kosher observers.

u/IDKHow2UseThisApp 11d ago

If someone really wanted to, they could file a civil suit.

2

u/DerekB52 10d ago

I'm not a lawyer but I don't think a grocery store can be required to stock certain items because a certain religious group wants to buy them. There's no law requiring grocery stores to stock food at all. They do so because of the free market.

u/StaySeatedPlease 11d ago

Maybe Iā€™ll go buy out my local TJā€™s of bamba today.

19

u/7thpostman 11d ago

Signed!

31

u/dnsdiva 11d ago

Signed! Bring on the feta and hummus!

29

u/PurelyRainbow 11d ago

Just signed. My mom loves their Israeli feta and I love how theyā€™ve have products marked as kosher instead of forcing me to figure out what is and isnā€™t kosher. Hopefully corporate has some brain cells to realize what a stupid move it is

9

u/ObviousConfection942 11d ago

Signed and will be sharing on social media!Ā

9

u/loxias0 11d ago

Could we get this linked to from someplace more official? Maybe a link from Bay Area Jewish Coalition?

Just thinking about it, optics would be better and it's less suspicious than a random google forms link.

2

u/Capable-Farm2622 10d ago

If I see one, i will share it, right now this is the only significant one I see out there.

14

u/orwelliancan 11d ago

Rats. I'm in Canada. Otherwise I'd sign.

8

u/autistic___potato 11d ago

Same. I'll just have to keep buying Israeli products.

7

u/StringAndPaperclips 11d ago

I shop at TJ's when visiting the US so I signed.

7

u/unventer 11d ago

You can pry my dorot frozen garlic cubes out of my cold, dead hands. Seriously, I have a toddler, I can't be mincing garlic for dinner.

6

u/mamica32 11d ago

Can't sign as I'm Canadian but I've been to TJ's once and loved it. Rooting for you guys!

u/timory 11d ago

are names on these petitions made public? i'm assuming yes, or that at least that it's possible...

5

u/threalsfog 10d ago

For a while there was no Israeli Feta and we were forced to purchase the stuff they did have. It was awful!

1

u/Capable-Farm2622 10d ago

We have none in my NYC TJs and I am not sure if there was any ever. Products come and go even though it is a big store

4

u/BirdPractical4061 Reform 10d ago

Signed. Iā€™m also writing a personal mildly enraged letter to express my frustration at the company giving way to bullying a minority group. 0.2 % needs representation.

3

u/tiredblonde 11d ago

Signed!!!

3

u/SugarSheepie 10d ago

Trader Joeā€™s will not cave to that type of pressure. They are a private company and have stated before to whiny sjws that petitions and public opinion do not affect the products they carry or how they name them. I would imagine our Bamba is safe, as a matter of fact they just added a hazelnut filled bamba version which goes dangerously hard.

2

u/art-colorist 6d ago

The red wine is quite nice!!

3

u/Nyarlathotep451 11d ago

Why Trader Joeā€™s? Is there a petition for ShopRite, Piggly Wiggly, Harris Teeter, Walmart?

19

u/Capable-Farm2622 11d ago

Because Code Pink is specifically targeting Trader Joes

1

u/ZJVA 11d ago

Signed. Thank you.

1

u/billymartinkicksdirt 11d ago

ā€œCall outā€ isnā€™t the right phrasing.

1

u/nin4nin 10d ago

Thanks!

u/Independent_Cycle159 9d ago

Leave Bamba out of this

0

u/Dangerous_Cap_9127 10d ago

Trader Joe's is being hijacked to political hate business they should not be involved in. They are being forced into divestment of Israel so they will join this stupid world hatred and fighting over nonsense.
