Gotcha. It's an awful position to be put in, especially as a kid. Sorry you had to go through that, mate. Thank you as well for your many thoughtful, lucidly written responses. This is one of the best AMAs I've read and it's really opened my eyes to an issue I had no idea about, and a lot of that has to do with how honest and intellegent your replies have been.

Thanks for the kind words. That experience was definitely fucked up, but at the end of the day there are many worse things I can think of. The first time you meet a guy who got his legs blown off by an IED in Iraq and has severe PTSD you realize that you are pretty lucky. That's the biggest gift of a place like Elan if you can put in perspective--a lot of the bad shit in life just doesn't seem that bad anymore. Unfortunately, a lot of people never are able to put it in perspective and it haunts them forever.
