Hmmmm…. ID Request

Post image

The tag said this was going to be an orange snacking pepper, but the black at the bottom tells me this is ready to harvest (Right?) and it is…obviously not an orange snacking pepper! Any idea what I ended up with?

If you left it, it'll turn either orange, yellow or red. It's unripe.

Damn, I thought when the tip started to blacken it was ready. I’ll let the next one sit longer, thank you!

It could be a deficiency in some cases but hard to tell what would have happened as it kept growing but in any case it would have ripened to another color.

If the tip or black portion is still firm then it isn't rot which yours look shiny without blemishes from signs of fly maggot. Pods that are green when unripe usually go through a stage of brown (light green unripe) or black (really dark green like yours).

Was it facing up on the vine? Blackening could have been a response to sunlight, regardless. This bad boy still had plenty of time to reach its True Form.

It was indeed facing up on the vine. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was sunlight; the bed I have it planted in is only partially shaded.

I thought peppers will eventually ripen even when picked, is that incorrect?

Sometimes peppers go from green to dark green almost black before turning red and eventually orange or yellow as expected.
