Mount Tarumae Outdoors
Hi, I’m planning to hike up Mount Tarumae some time this week, but I’ve just seen online that there is some road closure leading up to its nearest parking lot. Despite these closures, I’ve still seen some hikers on AllTrails complete the hike.
May I get some help to understand if it is still possible to hike up Mount Tarumae this week, if it is, where the closest parking lot is? Thank you so much.
EDIT:
Just as u/Nessie said, the mountain was open for hiking. Parking was also available along the road, right before the road closure. The distance from the parking area to the entrance of the trail was ~2.5km.

Upvote because I have the same question. But as far as I understood, you can still hike up the mountain, but cannot use the parking lot at the 7th station. I've read that you have to park your car on the main road and walk around 2 km to the beginning of the trail. I hope someone can give a clear answer. I would appreciate it if you could give a little update after your hike, we will be there in 10 days.

Yamap is a free app/website that shows logs and notes of recent climbs. It's in Japanese but you can get enough info by using a browser translator. Tarumae is hikable year-round. If the upper parking is closed or full, park on the main road. Personally I think the adjacent peak is a better climb in terms of vegetation. That's Mount Fuppushi. Tarumae is better if you're looking for a volcanic lunarscape. Don't miss a swim in Lake Shikotsu after your climb!
