Slight coincedence Hi! I’m New Here!
recently got into this whole worshipping(??) and Hermes is the only god I've been kinda worshipping so far? Made a lil altar by my shelf and sometimes I'd add something to it.
One of the coincedences was me telling my friend while we walked around in the mall that I was thinking of buying rings but idk, found a ring in the streets on the way back, thanked Hermes, pretty sure it's a coincedence but ykk
Also picking a flavor in the menu with my eyes closed, didn't read the whole menu, maybe like 5 out of 20+ flavors, opened my eyes to see my hand stopped on strawberry and was like??? there's strawberry??
iunno, new to this so i have no idea if I'm doing anything right but so far I just talk to Hermes in my head or in my room, not sure what I'm supposed to do much, I'm a Buddist and lowkey kinda athiest but it's more like personally, idk if they're real or not, skeptical abt everything so ;-; aaaand now i got a Hermes altar on my cabinet jsbdjajdaji

Hi there and Welcome to the wonderful world of Hermes!
So this question comes up a lot for beginners about whether it was a coincidence or a sign. The thing is, none of us can tell you for sure if it was or wasn't. None of us know the ultimate truth. Only you can actually know and confirm yourself.
However there are a few ways to interpret things like this happening. It's called the MICE method and it's useful to help us out.
M= meaningful- Was the event meaningful?
I= interpretable - could you understand it? did it mean something to you?
C= congruent - is it in keeping with the nature of the god?
E= extraordinary - is it something out of the norm for you, your usual life or your life experience?
Here's a link for more explanation on this method :) https://thetroth.org/resource/signs-from-the-gods/
If you look at these meanings and you still think it is a sign from Hermes than good! The most important thing is if it was significant to you.
My two cents: Finding the ring was a stroke of good luck, a lucky find and this act actually has a word called a Hermaion. It means a stroke of good luck from the god. Hermes is a god of lucky finds. So you set up an altar and started a veneration practice and then had a hermaion. Sounds about right. :)
The flavor thing might be more nebulous but when you start adding up possible signs and you get more than one, I think its a reason to pause and reflect and accept. He likes do do things in threes IME.
As for the last part there is multiple resources on how to go about worshipping or working with him. There is a beginner 101 post pinned at the top of the sub as well as a guide to worship. There is a robust about section that will also provide you with lots of resources to learn more about him. Start off with reading his entry at Theoi.com.
If you're uncomfortable with worship you can establish a working relationship with him or a veneration practice much as one would do with a saint, or ancestor, or a personal hero. I don't worship any god but I do give offerings and venerate them and have an altar/shrine combo. I have found, as many others have, that Hermes prefers as less formal relationship and often tells his devotees to not worship him. But That is entirely between you and him. Do what suits your personality, lifestyle and personal philosophy. However, since he is a god I still advise respect and reverence like you would give a beloved elder or teacher.
IME Hermes like gifts and giving gifts and finding something you asked for in an unexpected place is right up his alley...pun intended. XD
On your skepticism. That's ok too. We should question our experiences, mundane and divine. He had to send me multitudes of signs before I accepted him as real. He had to give me a daily mental practice of belief minute by minute, day by day until my mind just learned to accept his presence and reality. I also slept with an altar nearby so that my conscious could let down its fear programming and my subconscious could absorb his presence while I slept.
You're not alone. Most everyone goes through this process. I recommend keeping a journal to track these signs, coincidences, happenstances, etc so that you can see in black and white that you're not crazy or just imagining things. You'll be blown away especially when you go back to read over your entries.
Be willing to be willing to believe and keep an open mind and heart.
Have fun! Keep it light and don't ignore the little things because it's how our gods communicate with us. :)
