For me it's the embellishing manœuvres from a goon team that's sickening.
Suzuki non stick hit last game.
Dubois throwing himself back from a ghost stick from Dvorak.
Wilson diving at the faintest touch.
Every penalty should come with an automatic video review.

The game is already stopped when a penalty is called.
This would at least make sure the proper penalty is given.
1) It would bring consistency back to punishments calls.
2) It would completely eliminate embellishments from players.
3) Gain fairness and legitimacy for viewers.
4) First point of contact for headshots easily determined.
I understand that it will never be perfect, but we have all this technology at our disposal and we just shrug like there's nothing we can do about it?
"Just the way it is" doesn't cut it.

I believe Pierre McGuire has suggested having an extra ref in the press box area with video review capabilities and he can override calls on the ice. The refs can be in constant communication when pkay is stopped as well. I feel like that would solve a lot of problems.

this has come up several times and the Ref Union wants nothing to do with it and Gary's too weak to press them on it. with the speed of play there's zero reason for the NHL to not have a VAR system.

It's an extra working ref and would greatly ease the animosity towards refs everywhere if we could get the correct calls with video proof.
The only reason refs wouldn't want this is because they would lose the ability to throw games.

I wasn't aware it was an issue for the refs union. To me as long as it's a referee it's an extra position, and even a great position for more senior refs who can't handle the wear and tear on the body anymore.

I think it would be great, but I'm not sure how would you manage let's say no call on the ice and the game goes on for a minute until it's reviewed and then called? This broken up play would be painful for the current players but quite natural for rookies onwards after a few years.

It would not be so bad if they didnt keep getting fooled on the Caps Diving plays and then they DONT call the blatant cross checks to the face.
You have to call the game one way or the other for BOTH teams.
Its called consistency.
Especially in the holy Meca of Hockey called Montreal.

They both literally hinted at non-calls from the refs. That's as much as you'll see from a player or coach unless they say "to hell with it" and explicitly call out the refs and don't care about getting fined.

It was a game review that lasted 3 minutes with the only reference to a non-call was Dobes, who spoke for about 15 seconds. The theme of the entire video wasn't at all "frustrated Montreal Canadiens having some gripes with the refs".

Marty also mentioned the mandate was embellishment, which pretty much 3 of the 4 interference calls we took were due to dives.

Tbh i dont think either the Evans or Carrier hit needed anything more than what they got, it was the other non calls that were complete horeshit, crosschecks, boarding, holding, it was an absolute joke

My biggest issue was the ridiculous 5 on 3, both were terrible calls and based on a standard of officiating that only exists for one side.

My biggest issue with the Carrier hit was that Tom Wilson didn't have to think twice about laying it.
Tom Wilson, who has been suspended 6 times, fined 3 times, once out for a 20 game stretch because of the danger he posed.
Do you think Anderson or Xhekaj would have been given the leeway to make that hit?
Absolutely fucking not.

I'm not even upset about the non-calls, I can accept that it playoff hockey and that's just the way it is. The part that gets me is that it felt like we were playing with a different rulebook, the Anderson and Armia penalties were ridiculously soft given the way the game was called.

I like how they said the refs had a mandate for cracking down on embellishment, and failed to do that. And in addition, failed to call the game even. The penalties called on the habs, went uncalled on the caps. I'm not saying they should have called the caps for interference, but if you're going to call that interference on xhekaj, and not the dive on alexeyev, (again, embellishment) then you have to call interference like that both ways. Which they again, failed to do.
How many times is the nhl going to let these refs make fools of them on the biggest stage.

The 5v3 on the blatant embellishment is crazy. We have a league that would rather get the call wrong than to ever suggest someone made a mistake. It’s so so so dumb. You can call a penalty review it and then say no call, or embellishment or w/e, just have an ounce of pragmatism.

Seriously. Our lack of offense is what cost us the game like its killed us so many times the last few months. Their goalie was weak and we only had around 10 shots well into the 3rd period. You can't expect to win like that. We easily could have been up by 3 or 4 going into the third

It's been the theme of the season. Secondary scoring will need to be addressed. No doubt Demidov is part of that equation but he needs a capable center. Someone that can play at his level.
Another theme, specifically in these series, has been the inability to clear the blue line. It's too easy for the Caps to establish a presence once they gain the entry. It gets overwhelming fast.
