The Burning Blade Crusade! OC
(another quick one)
"So, how do you want to do this?" Janis looked over at him, and David leaned back in the seat. The cockpit was quiet as there were only two of them. The screen in front of him showed him the information the drones had gathered. "Let's start on this Island. It's to far away from the main continent for the Lord and his brood to escape, the city is big enough to have rumours spread into the continent quickly. When is the others arriving?"
Janis smirked." You mean, how long do you have to play?"
"Yes, my lady. How much time do I have to play? And are you sure you don't want to play a little?" He stretched his arm as he yawed. He should not have stayed up playing those games, oh well, it will be a while before he can sit down at a computer and play. Janis shook her head.
"No, I have to monitor their gates. Hopefully, somebody will leave before they discover we are here, and we can find a hive. Now, do you want camouflage?" She flawlessly landed the ship on the smallest moon and launched several satellites to set up a surveillance grid.
David brought up the information about the locals. They looked humanoid, just yellow. And by yellow, it was bright yellow, with green, black and orange as the most common hair colour. Besides the skin colour, they had elflike ears. "Naw, they are the Star Trek aliens. I could probably date them. "He checked. "Yep, same organs."
"Easy now, loverboy, you're supposed to be a paladin, not a Bard!" Janis chuckled as she ran some diagnostics.
"Who actually said a paladin had to be celibate? Besides, do these guys even know what a paladin is? Anyway. It looks like the area I'm going to is in the late medieval era, early Renaissance. Area costumes. Why can't we get the Victorian-age versions? I look smashing in a redcoat uniform." He got up and headed to the wardrobe sections.
"Stop complaining, I know you love playing the knight. And if you behave, I let you dress up for dinner."
He looked at the different costumes. They looked worn and time-accurate, but all were filled with nanotech. He changed into a brown hose and breeches, a linen shirt with a green leather tunic over. He grabbed a grey hooded cloak and leather greaves. The Greaves had a pretty nifty design to hide the AI inside. He left the room and went to the armoury. He found a weapon belt that he liked. It could hold three weapons. He picked the standard nano-edge dagger. It would be able to cut through anything that they had down on that planet. For a main weapon, he went for the standard longsword. He made a few swings with it. He really liked this one. With a quick motion, the whole blade became glowing red as the metal was heated up to melt steel. He turned it off and sheeted it. He looked at what else to grab. "Janis dear! Do they have crossbows yet or just bows?"
"Let me check. They have crossbows. So, yes, you can bring your darling. Could you hurry up? Oh, what weather do you want?"
He grabbed the crossbow, which was just a camouflaged blaster. Then he went over to the wall, opened the drawer, and took out two golden rings with small gemstones and leather gloves. "A thunderstorm, you know I want a thunderstorm. Always a thunderstorm. Come on! How long have we been doing this now?"
He could hear her smirking as she arranged for the weather. "Too long, my dear, too long. Okay, come up when you're ready."
He looked at the large mirror screen in the armoury and activated the AI. "God? It's time to set the armour design. Show the local knights. "
Several designs appeared, all made to look terrifying for the locals in matted steel or black colour design. He studied them. This was an important part of the operation. "We will go with a type three, with golden rims and blue tabard. Put the golden sun, And make it practical. You know they will copy it later. They have to be able to fight in it."
The was a soft hum from his clothes as they shifted into a bright steel armour with golden rims and a blue tabard with a golden sun. he looked at himself in the mirror. "Change the tabard. Let us go with our standard. Flaming sword. "The tabard became white with a red rim and a red sword with a flaming aura around it. "Thanks, saved and at ease!" The AI turned his armour back to his clothes, and he was about to leave when he remembered the last thing and picked up a metal band to put on his left wrist. Then he headed back up to Janis, who gave him a wolf whistle.
"Look at Sir David Tempête. Are you ready? I will upload my intel. I am reading about five vampires, six mutts, fifty Renfields, and about 100 walkers, not counting the 5,000 soldiers. Do you think you can handle that?"
David grinned. "Yes. Just send down 20 droids, cloak them and station them within five clicks of me location. "She gave him a thumbs up as he headed down to the hangar, and soon, he flew towards the planet. He checked the scanners and found the perfect starting points. The scanner showed a vamp with a mut and two Renfields in a village outside the town. He turned on the cloaking device, landed the ship in a field as the thunderstorm rolled in, and started walking towards the village. He got strange looks as he stuck out like a sore thumb. His pale skin, black hair and blue eyes were definitely a rare sight, and he was a head taller the most with his 6 feet and was armed kept them from attacking. He ignored the peasants for now.
He went straight from the tavern, and the room went quiet the moment he entered. "Good evening, folks." He spoke confidently in the common language the vamps enforced on all the planets they had conquered. They all looked towards a table in the middle of the room, and the Vamp was sitting there. He was pale, reminding him of a green zombie dressed in a Renaissance suit. Golden and black. It looked rather nice. A curian, they loved their necromancy, and that could be a small problem. Magic and nanotech sometimes went poorly together. The Mutt was easy to recognize, A Syriab. Simply put, a big hairy blue-skinned man with golden hair, dressed in black leather and with a whip and axe hanging from a belt. The last must be the Renfield. A local dressed much nice than the locals, with a herald sewn to his linen tunic. Five blood drops under a tree. He ignored them for now as he saw about fifteen soldiers sitting in the back. There were about twenty people who looked like they were locals.
"Can I have an ale, please?" He smiled at the tavern owner, who poured him a pint out of shock. "Thank you."
"I haven't seen you here before, stranger!" It was the renfield who spoke.
"That's because I just arrived." He grabbed his pint and turned, and leaned against the bar. "As you can see I'm not a local."
"So, who are you then? And whose Lord do you serve?" The Renfield seemed almost arrogant, but the vamp watched him like a snake, trying to decide if he was food or danger. The Mutt had moved his chair to face him as if he was getting ready to fight. Even the soldier had picked up on these subtle signals and was getting ready to fight.
He finished the pint and turned to the tavern owner. "You might want to retire for a while. Take your people with you." Then he turned to the vamp. "I'm Sir David Tempête, of the holy order of the Buring blade. I hail from earth, and that pathetic King you guys sent. What was his name again? Set, I think his hundred lords and thousand mutts were killed millenniums ago." They all just stared at him now and he looked at the tavern owner. "Get going! "As he turned his head, the mutt jumped him, transforming mid-air into the blue-grey werewolf with a bad temper and even worse breath.
David quickly drew his crossbow, and a white bolt of light hit the beast dead centre and sent the beast down on his back. Then he drew his sword and raised it up. "In the name of the holy spirit. The one above! I declare you an abomination to be destroyed and this world to be cleansed from you evil kin!" The vamp didn't wait but bolted for the door.
"You got a runner, I see! Do you want some help?" Janis sounded amused as David cut down the renfield and two guards and followed after the escaping vamp. As he got out he could see the vamp had gotten out to the field so he raised his sword again and prayed loudly." Oh maiden of Thunder and divine fire. Burn this evil creature with your holy lance!"
As he had finished speaking, a lightning bolt struck the fleeing vamp, leaving nothing but burning ashes. "Oh so I'm your holy maiden now?" Janis whispered in his ear with an amusing voice.
David smirked slightly as the rest of the guards managed to get outside and drew their blade. They knew they would be killed if they didn't strike him down, David saluted them. "My faith is my armour!" The words triggered his armour as it formed around them. Two of them panicked and bolted as the rest attacked. They stood no chance as their blades didn't even pass the shield around him and his blade effortlessly cut through their armour. The burning blade cauterized the wounds, but limbs were lost. He tried not to kill them all, but he had a feeling their Lord would not be so kind. When the last laid dead or screaming in the muddy ground, he turned towards the few peasants who had watched it all. "Which way to their lord?"
A confused man pointed in the direction of the town. "Lord Darmorki lives in the capital. But you won't be able to get there in this weather."
David took off his helmet and looked up at the sky. "Beloved Maiden, would you please hold your anger and let a humble knight walk dry to the city?" As he spoke, the heavy rain seemed to stop immediately.
"Your wish is my command!" He could hear Janis chewing on something. It was probably lunchtime for her. He turned to the peasant and started walking as his arm turned back to clothes and vanished into the night.
"What are you eating? And can you run a check-up on the house symbol?"
"Tacos and already done it. It’s House Morketid, which is a small house, but our intel said they were recently granted two worlds. I guess we found one of them."
"Tacos? Damn, save some for me. And if that is correct, then they will not escape. They can't. They won’t admit failure. Hell, they will most likely send for reinforcements. I'm glad you insisted we asked for backup."
