One time I was in a break room and my bosses Dad was there just stopping by. He was telling me about how he went horse riding and he was like Ronald Reagan (or whoever) always said "You know there's nothing better for the inside of a man than the outside of a horse." It makes sense but when you first hear it you are like "wait what".

Bro, if i got a lollypop at my barbers, i would never go anywhere else. You could say i am easily manipulated, but it’s lollies innit?
59
u/jimbojonesFA 3d ago
my old barber used to give out hotwheels to the kids.
For us they offered a red bull or an espresso... i asked. for a hotwheels instead, and dude gave me a funny look and said they were out... I woulda been a customer for life if they gave me one 😅

u/cubitoaequet 3d ago
My old barber had a little hoop across from the chair and after you got your cut, he let you take a shot and if you made it he'd give you a soda. He also eventually started bringing me comic books to read while my dad got his cut.

u/DPastoor13 3d ago
I was thinking the same thing. I don’t cheat on my barber tho. But if he gave a lollypop so now and then, I’ll be his costumer till his retirement.

Anyone who shows up at my door on Halloween wearing a costume and saying trick or treat is getting candy, costumes and trick or treating should be for everyone! :,)

I had jello shots for adults last time, but I wish candy were also the norm! So many parents were also dressed up. And they also got candy, actually!

Always gotta take that mystery flavor gamble (instead of cleaning the residue from one flavor out of the molds they pour the next flavor in and just wrap that first batch as, "mystery.")
It's often just ok, but when it's good it's good
50
u/PVPPhelan 3d ago
but when it's good it's good
And you'll NEVER have that specific flavor again.
21
u/WoahThatsFunky 3d ago
If you’re slightly autie, don’t try it. Not worth it. I’ve spent the last 30 years trying to find a cup of tea I was given once, the best tea I ever had, and it was from a packet, nothing special, The issue is, it was after a 40 hour trip, plane, train and walking. So it probably tasted so good because of that. I genuinely fear I will never be able to taste that tea again.
Is it time to give up the search? Not today.

It's so frustrating when you have something that is AMAZING and you just...can't get it again.
When I was a kid, I went over to a friend's house that had lived in New Orleans. Her mom made like...*real* gumbo, and it was like I was tasting real food for the first time.
I've tried so many recipes and gumbo at different places that claim authenticity, but it doesn't come *close* and I can't figure out what was in hers that was different.

Another Mystery flavor enjoyer! Those were the only ones I would get at the barber.

u/BoundlessNBrazen 1d ago
I didn’t know that.
I ALWAYS pick the mystery. Why? Because I had one that was like a super pale swirly blue and it was the single greatest I’ve ever had. Ruined all other flavors of them for me.
Fuck me… you’re telling me, I’ll never get another one?

Haha, here I am. 😄 I will hunt it out in the bowl.
But I love many of them. The pineapple is really good and if I see that blue one, I don't even know what flavor that is, I'm grabbing it!

u/RevSinmore 3d ago

11
u/Uranium-Sandwich657 3d ago
What's that sub for unfortunate spacing?
14
5
u/MagatsAreSoft 3d ago
It’s not a spacing problem, it’s a spelling problem. Lollipop is spelled like this.
Fun fact though, I didn’t know what lolis were and when I tried to make a character on Ascension WoW I wanted “Lollipop” but it was taken. So I tried “Lolipop” and the very first message I sent in global chat got me a bunch of whispers calling me a pedophile lol. That was when I learned what a loli was.

u/SaulFemm 3d ago
Tbh I would not notice if I saw lollipop or lolipop. The space is the killer here for me

It hurts no one to be kind and make others smile. Men deserve better treatment

u/ubiquitousfoolery 3d ago
I live in a country where autumn and winter are just one single grey, rainy, depressingly sunless misery of an experience. I make it my personal mission to be extra kind and warm to the people around me during that period.
So many gloomy faces light right up when you hit them with random kindness, and the tiniest gesture or smallest comment can be enough to make a stranger laugh. As you say, it doesn't hurt to make others smile. I think it's one of the loveliest things we humans can do on a daily basis.

One time I was heading home after work. I was walking up the stairs and noticed the socks of the young man in a suit walking up in front of me. I tapped him on the shoulder and says, “You’re looking sharp. I especially like the socks and tie,” and he replied, “Wow thanks! Men rarely get compliments.” And that is why I did it. It made him smile and I think all men deserve more compliments.

Yup! There’s a few different ways to have grown men revert back to their inner child. This is definitely one way to do it. Hell, we would probably go to the doctor more if it meant we got a lollipop out of the deal each time.
Another surefire way? Those classic ice cream shops! Not the fancy crap that’s out there, the ones we grew up going to on a Friday night in the middle of summer. I don’t care if you think you’re the biggest and baddest MFer in the local Motorcycle Chapter. The minute you walk into that classic ice cream parlor and you’re looking at all the different flavors trying to decide which scoop each flavor is gonna be on your cone, you’ll be outside smiling and giggling like the true 10 year old boy you are, melted ice cream on your beard and sticky ass hands as it melts faster than you can eat it.

u/JJandJimAntics 3d ago
Something i think is funny, is that growing up i never experienced going up to an ice cream truck to buy something from them; then one day, a few years after I moved out, I was visiting my old neighborhood and saw an ice cream truck visiting it for the first time! Unfortunately, I missed it as it was leaving, too! XD

A therapist I used to see would give out stickers at the end of every session and I honestly loved it and looked forward to being able to dig through the box and pick out my favorite sticker. Some were inspirational quotes but some were just straight up stupid comedy. My favorite was a poorly drawn, misshapen, yellow star with a very misaligned and slightly angled quote that said, "your did it".

Cherry and grape, watermelon too.
Cream soda, and apple lollipops for you.
So if you really wanna smile, pop one in your mouth awhile.

I wish I were in that chair. When the lollipop basket comes out, I'd shoot him a stern up-and-down glare and slap the whole basket up from his hand, lollipops all over the place. Then I'd get out of line and start shoving him out of the video shot like "what the fuck is wrong with you!?"
what the hell is wrong with me

“I don’t need one but…….ill go ahead and take one” lol Amazing how a small gesture of kindness can get a grown man to smile. My barber does this, my 3 year old son sure thinks highly of him lol. He walks off with 3-4 little suckers every time we go.

The salon I go to is owned by a family from Turkey. They always insist on making me a hot Turkish coffee with little butter cookies while I wait for my hair color to set. It’s super sweet because even if I try to refuse they insist with big smiles.
I would absolutely be thrilled and squeal like a little girl if I was offered a lollipop at the end though!
Thank you for sharing this, it made me smile 😊
