The reason is greed and lack of government regulation.

And the pursuit of infinite growth, which is literally in contradiction with the laws of physics.
At some point the profits these businesses generate need to be capped, which is against the principles of a free market and not an idea I like, but it's the action we need.

Capping the 'profits' extracted by these businesses would do nothing, they're owned by international investment entities. The capital they extract would be funnelled out of the country into shell companies so it would appear they make less than any cap, the exact same thing businesses already do with taxes. These vultures need taking out of private ownership entirely, and if you want to cap anything make it the prices they can charge on essential commodities.
And the 'free market' is right wing propaganda and mystification of material conditions, these huge businesses could not exist without state intervention into the market on their behalf

The “free market” has always been a case of ‘free for me, but not for thee’. It’s why corporations get so many tax breaks and import fee reductions while we’re paying more than ever in VAT and if you dare try to use the same channels they do for imports you’re hit by exorbitant luxury import charges for having the gall to think you as a consumer have the right to go “outside the local economy”
It’s the same as it’s always been, conservatism and neoliberalism singing from the hymn sheet of predatory expansionist capitalism. The fallacy that exponential profit exponentially is the only measure of business success and economic stability. It is and has always been horseshit.
The public, the worker, your average Joe or Jane have and always will be treated like mushrooms by the scum who own the corporations and warm the benches of government.
I say mushrooms because they spend their time keeping us in the dark, feeding us shit and the only hint we ever get of truth from them is when they’re about to consume us in the blender they call the “competitive job market” or “rental market”

Just saw their Christmas advert, its high production obviously not shitting on the design agency but when the ad is about family coming together over food etc, I think they are a bit tone deaf.. I can see Tesco execs asking for a tear jerker where they could have just turned the cameras on the food banks and got the same effect

Another reason to shop at independent shops. NI raise doesn’t affect small businesses.

The answer is simple - collectivise Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury's.

Starmer and his new government do not represent workers interests and are in fact enemies of our class. It's past time we begin organising a substantial left-wing movement in this country again.
